          Steve Expat says:

Until we do stand up and argue against them, they will continue to pick up votes and seats.

We need to allow them to speak, then rationally dissect what it is they have to say. A huge number of their voters are former Labour voters who believe their country is being overrun by immigrants, and no other party is listening to them. Until someone does listen to them they will vote for the racist thugs.

    • 21
      Anonymous says:

Agreed -one shouldn’t forget that “the unsinkable ‘Molly’ Brown” was a passenger on the Titanic and survived ! Brown will still be there for the election – the so-called mutiny is nothing more than talk from a leaderless rabble – you can take that to mean either the rebels or the PLP as a whole – the analogy fits both

    • 29
      Dr Feelgood says:

Immigration “might” also have been a bit of an issue!

The man is an idiot who will kill the Labour party through putting himself first.

Voters expect parties to come forward and take their kicking – the longer they avoid it the bigger the kicking and the less chance of recovery. Look at the Tories – 10 years until people listen to them.

Labour will not get 10 years, their vote will go in various constituencies and once they are seen as having no chance of winning in a constituency tactical votes will keep them out permanently.

Look at the south west of England -that is Labour’s future as long as Brown stays .

  27. 41

Now come on folks; all fair-minded Britons must surely agree with the BBC view that this was a very bad night for the Conservatives?

Let’s all rally aorund the Dear Leader in his struggle against reality; say NO to the chaos of an election, say YES to the little yellow pills, the ones that make it all better!

    • 54
And here is the early morning news from the BBC says:

Whilst Labour as expected suffered it was also a bad night for the Tories – Cameron must be dis-appointed – he’s failed to make the breakthrough needed just 12 months away from a General Election and once the electorate see Brown’s policies beginniing to work the Labour Party will sweep to a fourth election victory!!!

  29. 59
    No Way Forward yet says:

The PLP won’t push him; the results are too bad,Ironically Godron Brown’s position is stronger than it was over the weekend, since having seen off a cabinet rebellion the next the main threat – an outright revolt from the PLP – has receded. MPs know that they’ll be pretty much wiped out at a early election. They’ve got absolutely no hope now, and they’ve got at best an unknown situation in a year’s time.

Their only hope is that something might derail the Conservatives between now and next May; it’s a poor option and runs the risk of letting them get stronger and better organised on the back of this result. I would still, though, expect them to opt for that bleak uncertainty rather than instant oblivion.

Shoring up Gordon Brown entails twelve months of inaction with the likelihood of eye-catching and traditional Labour totemic issues being rushed to the fore – watch for movement on Lords reform and massive constitutional changes. Brown’s agenda will now entirely be dominated by what the PLP will support and this could see them lurch further to the left, as they’ll think now that they won’t have another chance to do anything significant for a generation.

That isn’t, though, going to attract the kind of donors Labour need to attract and twelve months of dithering will see the Labour financial support base wiped out. At some point those who organise the purse at Labour must be worried that they need a massive new start sooner rather than later to encourage new donors to come forward and that’s not going to happen until the succession is clear.

In the mean time we have to watch the political death throes.

    The truth will out. says:

    Trust the maths.

A third of the electorate voted.
    Labour got 15% of that.
    i.e. 5% of the electorate.

Bye bye Brown, bye bye Labour.
    Not missing you already.

  31. 63
    Lizzie says:

I see the PM arrived early at Downing Street this morning for his coffee and croissants, Lord High and Everything Else is now in charge of the “stuffed blue parrot” according to the Sun. The other unelecteds will be gathering in the bunker to sing from the same hymn sheet. “we shall not, we shall not be moved”. I think that probably sums things up for me, the British people have spoken and Labour will not listen. As I have said a march to Downing Street is the only answer.

  32. 67
    City of Vice says:

If anything the Euro result has understated the kicking Labour is likely to get at the next general election. I know quite a few people who were so disgusted with it all that they didn’t vote at all. However, come the general election these people will be out there casting their ballots – against New Labour.

Might pop over to Ladbrooks to see what’s the odds on Brown lasting out the week. Could be worth investing a few bob.

  33. 69
    Talwin says:

Brown’s and the Cabinet’s repetitive, delusional mantra is that we want him to stay, and it’s his duty to do so, so that he can 1) fix MPs’ expenses and 2) sort out the recession.

But in respect of expenses, that’s largely a done deal after what has been set in place by the various party leaders: it’s now all process with the Kelly recommendations to follow. Jeez, they’re sorting out some rules for expenses: it’s hardly government strategic planning, is it? And, frankly, I would have thought (hoped!) that a prime minister’s role went somewhat beyond deciding the amount of subsistence allowance.

As far as the recession is concerned, I thought that Gordon had already saved the banking system and the world up to and including the G20. Surely everything the government have done (for good or ill) is now playing out.

But if there is something else Brown is planning (and for which it is vital that he stay in the short term), perhaps he can tell us.

As far as I can see, based on his own stated criteria, he can clear off now. Or is he, heaven forfend, just staying, Micawber-like, waiting for something to turn up.

    I think so.

    Ratsniffer says:

Now the news from the BBC. Our glorious leader, Gordon Mc Brown, says yesterdays results in the EU elections are a resounding success for Labour and represent a call by the electorate for him to stay on, and complete the job in hand.

He says that Britain has avoided the recession suffered by the rest of the world, public spending is at an all time low, and tractors are being produced in record amounts. Mr McBrown added that he was sorry the Queen had decided not to attend the D-day anniversary at the weekend, despite being invited by himself.

He said it was heartening to be cheered by so many veterans, who told him “We needed you here to salute you, as our great leader, thank you for coming, sir.”

FrankFisher – No, it wasn’t a bad night for the Tories. Granted, they could have gained a few more % on a good day but in a general election a lot of votes cast for Eurosceptic parties will go to Conservatives (including some of the UKIP vote) because issues other than Europe will come into play.

A few more Anti-european policies and a guarnatee on a referendum and the Conservatives are in . . . and thank Christ for that. I just hope it comes sooner rather than later.

        JMT says:

It shows that all Dave has to do, to neuter UKIP and the BNP, is give a vote on EU membership. Perversely that would also benefit Labour.

It also shows that if we go down the PR route for UK elections, BNP and UKIP will hold the balance of power. Referendum now or continuous elections.

I am sure that I heard some wonk (Labour?) last night voicing his opinion that 2 x BNP seats had effectively killed off any desire for PR!!

Labour must stand aside to save the country. says:

So, finally, fascists have been voted into power by British voters, and it has happened on Gordon Brown’s watch. How long will it be before we have fascist MP’s in Parliament?

Let’s not pretend that we do not understand why this has happened. It has happened because ALL of the mainstream parties and the media have refused to listen to the people of this country. Quite the opposite in fact. For the past month the public have been told repeatedly what to think by Labour Politicians. Do they have ANY IDEA of just how offensive that is?

Labour need to comprehend that the time when main stream parties could control the population by controlling the message are OVER. There are now tens of thousands of opinion formers engaged in politics via the internet. Their voice is being heard directly and uncensored every single day. The public have been empowered.

The main stream parties need to start engaging with voters IMMEDIATELY. They MUST listen to what the electorate are saying and change direction TODAY before the cancerous tide of fascism covers the entire country.

Labour are DIRECTLY REPSONSIBLE for letting fascists gain credibility and power. They MUST immediately stand aside for the good of the country. There may some setbacks in taking this path, but Labour Party members know and the public knows that this is the ONLY path that will start to put things right.

Labour are facists according to the definition by Paxton:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism
      ‘Paxton wrote that fascism is:

a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.

Perhaps, but McShane probably had it right last night when he said it just meant we were becoming more European in our voting.

LDs notably quiet on this aspect of PR. It’s hypocritical making a big song and dance about keeping unsavoury parties out of power and then backing a system which at some point will give them the balance of power.

Mitterand did something similar in France and the Front Nationale have never looked back since.

Seeing Glennis Kinnock last night getting nailed was wonderful. Squirming thieving cow.

She hasnt resigned from the Euro Parl and the tories nailed her as suspecting she wont resign and take up her post until her term ends on July 13th because of her pension that she gets, she loses it if she resigns early.

Kinnock then said she wouldnt take up her post until then but she cant be an mep and work for a Nat Govt at the same time. So effectively she cant take the job until she resigns and she wont until july 13th, so no Europe minister until she creams off her pension.

There is a certain delicious irony that just as Mrs Kinnochio leaves, Marta Andreasson will be taking her seat. The European Union could backfire badly on the left

Because the media are left of centre you could be forgiven for thinking the European people are – that is not so

The EU has created a monster that could easily be hijacked by the far right – voter apathy will help this

If the EU has existed in the 1930′s we could all now be living under far right control

Considering the Left (Labour) are intent on bringing in anti-liberty laws – ID cards, logging your travel plans, jail for stating your opinion if it doesn’t match the PC ideal, surveillance schemes, CCTV cameras everywhere, kiddies being asked to report on their parents’ conversations, bin police, Council officials & every dog & devil with the right to enter your home, Human Rights for thieves, rapists & murderers but not for the lawabiding, fingerprinting & DNA retention of the innocent, police forces that are so busy obeying their political ‘masters’ & far too busy to protect the ordinary citizen, ‘secret ballot’ elections where govt, can check back & see what party you voted for – could someone please explain the difference between this & ‘far right control’?

GEORGE ORWELL ACCURATELY PREDICTED MODERN TIMES 60 YEARS AGO

“Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” Wrote George Orwell in ‘Politics of the English Language’ in 1946.

A very good description of the uncontrolled greed, corruption and general venality of politicians everywhere who connive to destroy decency, democracy and the progress of civilisation and prosperity and the whole quality of life in general for all of us.

Bearing in mind the point that there is never an excuse for murder, the tens of millions of people Worldwide routinely being killed by war and other conflicts inspired and directed by politicians is pure evil, entirely avoidable and completely unnecessary.

George Orwell also got it right with his views of modern financiers.

“Building societies are probably the cleverest racket of Modern Times. The beauty of the building society swindles is that your victims think you are doing them a kindness. You wallop them and they lick you hand.” Orwell wrote this prescient description of our current poisonously dishonest mortgage market in his novel ‘Coming up For air’ in 1939.

Recent events have proved that the whole banking and financial industry in general is full of cheats, liars and thieves who have milked the whole of the rest of the population of vast sums of money – and they continue to do so, largely because of those corrupt politicians who do absolutely nothing at all

How amazing the unmentionables have garnered two MEPs.
They have been subjected to complete media and establishment censorship. Unable to get their message across and lied about, ad nauseum.
And that is called democracy – the sort of democracy, I suppose, we have killed 1.2 million Iraqis to impose on them.
    What a shock to UKIP.
They have sat on their hands for ten years, milking the gravy train for all they are worth, two million quid where Farage is concerned, and suddenly there are new kids on the block to show what a true anti/get out/ of the EU really means.
No longer can UKIP just sit and coast as the establishment’s anti EU vote trash can. Harmlessly looking after the anti EU vote with a minimum of disruption to the political elite.
They have to act or be shown up for what they are.
Gormless at best – dishonest at worse.
It is also clear after watching Charles Kennedy challenge Liam Fox that the Tory MEP’s have been elected on false colours.
The chances of a vote on Lisbon are virtually nil.
The Irish will vote for us after all.
Rather a different hymn sheet to those of you who thought the Tories were even remotely anti EU under Cameron.
Analysts and the like have now said as much, in comment.
Cameron is a europhile posing as something else.
Tories – you have been largely had, by looks of things, if you expected anything to be done to stop the EU monster by the party who systematically sold out from Heath, Maggie and then Major, dream on.
The election of the unmentionables is the best thing that could happen for those of us who want the reinstatement of British sovereignty.
It will wake up the political class.
The unrepresented and totally ignored British poor, who are the ones most hurt by the completely uncontrolled immigration into this country, have spoken.
    Will they be heard?.
Judging by the complete arrogance and denial coming from the political parties on my TV, I doubt it.
