Ten years ago it was purged by CCHQ of its leadership, after false allegations of officer malpractice were alleged by Kirkbride and MacKay acting vicariously through the Party Board. The officers’ real crime was to hold their MP to account for her inadequacies. Many members just walked away in disgust. Others kept their counsel. Some stayed and fought. A few took the honourable course of political independence and remained in fine service to their community (almost all independents on Bromsgrove BC are ex-Tories driven out by Kirkbride). The association is now badly led, depleted and financially stretched. It needs a strong new chaiman who can steer it through these dangerous times. Perhaps Kirkbride will today reflect on the irony of the fact that she knifed all those who would have been strong enough to protect her this week. It’s OK to surround yourself with sheep but you are slighlty vulnerable when a wolf turns up.
