Apart from Expenses & Cash for Peerages, one example is the Abrahams affair. I understand the Labour party has yet to return the £1million to Mr. Abraham. Now the money itself is not the biggest issue, far more important is the matter of principle involved which has not been resolved to any public satisfaction regarding the possible abuse of power and planning favours that may have been granted in that case. Questions linger over the appointment of private firms of consultants involved in planning generally, particularly where this crosses the distinction and sacred boundary into public sector local government – itself a subsidiary of Whitehall.

From Institutes to Ombudsmen investigating complaints where matters of principle end up undermined and compromised, the official statements of transparency are nothing more than lip-service. It’s simply not good enough just to change the party in power – the very system of government itself requires reform BEFORE an election.

I agree fully this should not be done by the present kangaroo court. Nor however can it be accomplished by yet another so-called “INDEPENDENT” body. We all know “he who pays the piper calls the tune”. It is the people who must determine the NEW RULES before a new form of government is allowed to hold us in bondage EVER AGAIN.
