Ed Balls stretches credulity by claiming he isn’t ambitious…
“I would love to be part of Ed’s Labour government but what I do next for me is not an all-consuming passion. I’m more bothered, in a personal sense, about getting to grade 8 piano by the time I’m 50.”

Am I the only person to be suspicious that the sudden fear-mongering about pig-flu will lead to a lot more swabbing, the results of which will end up in some dodgy biometric database?
I’m just off to renew the baco-foil on my propeller hat…
Certainly not……..just like eeeeeebolla, sars, bird flu et al. the PANDEMIC FEAR advertising comes with Government approval and by coincidence at the right time to cover up the fiscal fiddling…..I await the Hollywood movie….”Swine Flu Monsters”….just as before!!
Just going out in my Mexican Sombrero and face mask to have a bit of fun!!
Why are the 33 million face masks just for the NHS workers, are there that many NHS employees?
Well, as the masks only protect against aerosol born infection (Mucous and saliva from sneezing), and need to be changed as soon as damp, and judging by the MSMs attempts to drum up panic, I’m assuming they think people will be nicking them to take home.
Also it’s H1N1, not H5N1 (bird flu) so we have a better natural resistance to it, so the scare story has a tiny problem. As Captain Blackadder said, it’s bollocks.
I suggest you all go back to watch Tony Hancock in ‘The Blood Donor’ and singing “Coughs and sneezes spread diseases, catch the germs in your handkerchief”
That is the video advice being put out by HMG.
Hardly a platform for another Brown crisis extravaganza.
We need more signatures on the petition………
I think it was probably better MP’s left petitions alone today, it is not number 1 and public health should take priority. Next week is another matter.
Bound to be a certain amount of ‘there but for the grace of god’ from MP’s, but this is a man who wanted to give the electorate the right to petition the Commons the same way Downing Street can be.
http://www.vnunet.com/computing/news/2193976/brown-praises-online-petitions. It is more a case of hoisting him by his own petard.
Having said that he, according to Hansard \gordon Brown has mentioned the word “petition” within the Commons once in the last five years.
I perceive this as potentially having constitutional ramifications that the blogosphere as well as creating it is also undermining with the “hilarity” of the doing a good job petition. I feel it would be better served compiling a list of questions for the asking from those that have been following regarding what is/has been going on. Some of these I think we already have answers to but not on public record.
For a start:
Who runs the petition site?
What is the policy for disregarding signatories?
What if any is the backlog on dealing with signatories?
What does the Prime Minister feel to be the magic number for triggering debate?

Can I use my big felt-tip?
I’m going to miss this today! Damn!
Can someone please make suitable suggestions for my lunch, as per normal? Ta.
Look at Burnham, Johnson and Denham. They’re shitting themselves. They know this is going to get nasty.
Bill Cash- get in!!
Petition is now number 2.
971 more to go top.
LET ME THROUGH! I INSIST ON BEING HEARD!!!
Speaking as a High Profile member of this discredited, bankrupt, lying, and deceitful government, I would like to thank taxpayers for my LOVELY BATHPLUG!
It fits beautifully, and is very nice.
Come Cameron. Go for his throat!!
Yeah. The Gurkhas. Go get him Camo
Come on CMD- it’s an open goal for Christ’s sake.
There’s a book out there called ‘The Return Of The King’… No, not that Tolkein rubbish, it’s about how the Royalists won back this land from over a decade of Puritan madness…. well worth a read. The Do Nothing Party? Absolutely. It worked then…
COME ON. GO FOR HIM!!!!
This is becoming boring. An open goal and Cameron is doing nothing. This will be a win for Broon if Cameron does not pick up his game.
Jeez. Swine flu and gurkhas. Cameron lets Brown off the hook again!!!
Clegg lays a glove on him, unlike CMD.
By spending more money on nukes, it will encourage other countries to not do it……… fook me, stunning!!!
What sort of fucked up logic is that? History has shown us that the exact opposite is true. In WW2 when Japan was about to surrender the US dropped 2 nukes on Japan. Not to end the war with Japan, but to send a message to Russia. The effect was to galvanise Russia’s nuke program to the point where they almost started WW3 over a little island called Cuba.
I dispute the scenario that the yanks dropped A-bombs to show off to the Russians. There is no evidence. Zero. None. Zip. Never a hint that the Japanese were planning to surrender.
Worked for me komrad.
http://www.dannen.com/decision/
Yup, no evidence there.
I suppose we shouldn’t be suprised about the Gurkha position. I mean Johnson Beharry got the victoria cross, and they couldn’t be bothered to make sure the NHS treated him properly.
A world fit for heros, I don’t bloody think.
I noticed Harriet cough. Any hope?
Sadly, it’s a mutated virus, so the swine that spread it don’t die themselves.
Sigh……
At last!!!! Gordon admits there is something the government can’t afford….
…the cost of letting Gurkhas who have served the country and been prepared to die for the country settle here.
Well you’ve got to draw the line somewhere. Well done Gordon.
Let’s hope this is the first of many government decisions not to fund things we can’t afford.
I do hope you’re taking the piss. Given a choice between living next to the family of a Ghurka who has shown bravery fighting for the UK and living next to some drugged up little chav my answer will be, kick the chav out and give his home to the Ghurka.
Er that was a largely sarcastic post.
The good thing is that Gordon has at last started drawing the line when it comes to government expenditure.
The bad thing is that the first victims of this new “government spending policy” are the Gurkhas.
Gordon couldn’t have picked a more miserable place to start the cutting than with this inhuman decision.
phew, hard to tell sometimes on here.
Agreed, we need to stop spending for spending’s sake, but he’s looking at the wrong things.
No point saving a few million a year when billions are being wasted on Trident and ID Cards. Even if Trident and ID Cards are necessary (I personally don’t think they are) then they need to be put off till later, not brought forward. I get the impression that GB wants all the expensive projects done purely to spite Cameron.
Remember TB promising a government that would be ‘purer than pure’ before 1997? Even though he was maybe only referring to the first parliament, it was very popular to expect that Labour would be ‘purer than pure’ indefinitely. I never expected so myself, depsite being only a teen. Now such (then unpopular) scepticism has been vindicated, the right should have more fun telling the public, and the left in particular, that they had told them so.
Was anyone at Downing Street to throw nokias at the petition server over this half hour?
Is it just wishful thinking, or did Brown look like a beaten man this morning?
I notice Brillo Pad is missing a cuff link. I expect he lost it when he was fisting Anita, he does love his Asian babes the old rogue.
Walking through London a few weeks back, I walked straight past someone I thought I recognised… struggling to put a name to the face, it eventually came to me – it was that Anita bird off the BBC.
It wasn’t until later on that evening, watching Match of the Day, that it dawned on me – it hadn’t been Anita Anand that I’d walked past at all, it had been Jimmy Hill…
If Brillo reads that you’re dead, no-one disses his bird. I’m serious, he knows some well tasty geezers from the Wapping days.

At the end of Prime Minister’s Questions today, the Speaker called upon an MP to speak who was not on his feet, and who, when called, was clearly heard to say ‘that’s a surprise’. Gorbals Mick must go.
Who was the hoon on McBroon’s left? I don’t recognise him.
The stench of a corrupt and broken government was there for all to witness today. What a sad bunch of egotistical and useless people the new labour benches are.
How can Brown stand there and behaviour in such an ungratious manner and at one point call for some humility. If I was there I would not hesitate to rush round the table and plant one on his smarmy, infested fat face.
Get rid of them!!
ps did anyone notice that all the labour MPs called were from the Newcastle/ Sunderland/Tyne area?
Thats because the Geordies are especially upset when they see the dosh flooding across to prop up Labour in Scotland and there is an election to fight. … soon
You can’t fool all of the people all of the time – so bye bye Mr North Briton personified and take your clapped out, venal Labour Party with you. ‘Call me Dave’ personified Scarfe’s cartoon of him in the ST – an empty shell.
Brownovitch – your attempts to save the Union and Labour’s backside in Scotland have misfired gloriously and you have lifted the vote for Scottish independence within the EU to 42% for; 40% against while, more importantly if ‘Call me Dave’ gets in at Westminster 35% of those in the against camp will vote for. In the immortal words of Corporal Fraser the Union is: ‘Doomed, doomed I tell ye!’. The UK Plc’s bankruptcy is becoming ‘Darien’ in reverse.
So thank you Gordon for inadvertently unpicking 300 years of deceit that has made Scotland the British Empire’s last colony and killing for once and all the idea that the UK is a major world player (given that the USA considers the UK to have a second tier economy and the IMF thinks you and your chancellor are basket cases and you can’t afford the military adventures you have signed up to).
