Will a Million Voters Tell Gordon to Go?

Resign

Guido never links to Downing Street online petitions because they never achieve anything.  However dozens of people have emailed about this petition.  Guido has spoken to Civil Service types who confirm that under the rules of the petition service this petition is valid and permissable since it is non-partisan.  It has already attracted hundreds of petitioners in support.

Something tells Guido this could be big, really big.

Over two million people watched Dan Hannan on YouTube crush Gordon in a speech.  If half of them can be bothered to tell Gordon to go, it will be a huge symbolic protest against the unelected Prime Minister.  If you want Gordon to go tell him via his own website:  click here.

BREAKING NEWS – GUIDO FAWKES FIRST TO LEAK BROWN’S NEW ECONOMIC POLICY

THE UK TO SEND A MAN TO THE SUN, says Brown

Brown’s hurried announcement of the solar expedition was forced after a partially printed policy document discovered inside a damaged laser printer sent by Number 10 for repair was leaked to Guido Fawkes.

Given that it was revealed that Broon the Hoon could not play the DVDs given as a gift from President Obama because he did not even know about multi region DVD players. I guess he avoided Richer Sounds because of the name Richer, he only likes making the Country poorer.

Would it also be to Cameroons benefit to really push and hammer this point, at every opportunity that presents itself – that NOTHING, but absolutely NOTHING, spouted by this conglomeration of dessicated hoons should be given even a hint of credibility until its validity has been confirmed from several independant sources?

O/T – Over the past year or so the GBP has lost about 30% against the EUR. Today I received notification that my military pension has been raised by 5% – so am I now only 25% worse off than last year? Would a Socialist rate this as a sign of the impending upswing?

    • 163
      Atlas shrugged says:

Yes, if Cameron had any real control over EVENTS, he would immediately create a government of what will be called NATIONAL UNITY. Then start closing down or rapidly selling off whats left of the family scrap metal to his and Osborn’s mates in the International Banking System, and also start praying a lot, with the rest of us.

It will be the final end of our excuse for national government. But there again, please don’t bother grieving for its demise. British democracy, in the sense of being any good for the long term interests of the ordinary voter, vanished years before it was supposed to have existed.

My guess however, is that Cameron will be made to wait for a year or two, while his party’s opposition get their collectivist act together, before our future one party state truly comes on line.

There is also the possibility that Gordon Brown has been instructed to beat Cameron at the National Unity game. We can only speculate on how bad this economy is actually going to be one year from now. As for taxes, only the sky is the limit.

If any of you lot believe I am delusional, then please answer this question.

      Who is more delusional?

Someone who thinks that the destiny of British, European or World government can really be decisively influenced by any form of petition from a lousy one million of disgruntled citizenry.

      Or

Someone who thinks that the whole above concept, is an act of sublime ignorance, inspired by no more then wishful thinking, created by a lifetime of mind crunchingly dishonest establishment propaganda.

      Lets put it this way.

What evidence is there that the real government of this country EVER really gave a flying fuck about what the vast majority of the common people actually want?

Because IMO if they EVER did, we would not be where we are now, without any shadow of any doubt whatsoever.

        7-30am Monday am – 10 Downing Street.

      -rant on

The problem here is that although we will all greatly enjoy sitting up on election night to see half of these tax eaters tossed out, and the other half returned to opposition, none of them will pay for the mess they have created, not personally, not with cash.

The half thrown out, will get fantastic severance payments, and an unbelievable pension, then start again on Monday as ’special advisors’ or ‘union reps’ drawing some kind of coerced or tax-eater salary.

The half that return to opposition will continue getting a fantastic wage+unbelievable expenses, for doing largely bugger all, plus a great pension.

Even if the prime mentalist loses his seat, he still gets that multi-million pension, plus a job on Monday in the EU/IMF/World Bank, tax free, paying more than he gets as PM.

This is the real moral hazard of politics. None of the buggers ever pays for their robbery, thuggery, or plain old incompetence. Just ask Portillo. Out of office for over a decade and probably making more money from politics now than he ever did when working in government.

Now that Alistair Darling has delivered his budget for hope and recovery we must now all get behind the Government and offer them our full support as they steer the country through this global banking crises. Things may get a little tough over the next few years but at least this Chancellor is prepared to borrow a few pounds to support hard working families and businesses for a secure prosperous future. We will spend our way to a beautiful recovery which will probably be underway within the next 12 months. Green shoots by spring 2010. It may start slowly at first but the fruits that ripen will be well worth the wait. I am very proud of what Alistair is achieving on behalf of our party and the blinder he played with the higher tax rate he announced on the very rich. Undoubtedly the very wealthy should and will pay more in tax to help support our schools hospitals and the less fortunate. This is simply social justice and the wealthy had better get used to it. This initiative has completely wrong footed the Tories. Not only will we restore the economy but we will also achieve the redistribution which has been the holy grail of previous post war Labour Governments. The future is most definitely red socialists multicultural and Tory free. A land where minority groups can live and flourish free from the discriminatory ways of the past. They will live under the protective watch of an LGBT and Hate Crime Tsar in every Local Authority. Gordon and Alistair have made all of this possible we simply need to get over the turbulence of the next 12 months.

Harman old fella me lad, I realise you are a complete dickhead but don’t you think there might be slightly more important things brewing at the moment than the New Labour-invented concept of “Hate Crime” and how minority groups feel?

You see there is a thing called a majority, whose wishes in a democracy should take precedence, and at the moment the majority hate Brown and want him to go. In a democracy (which New Labour doesn’t understand) the wishes of the majority are more important than the wishes of the minority (which New Labour doesn’t understand). They have created a barking, topsy-turvy Britain where the mad ideas of a minority oppress the majority. You can’t really by-pass parliament, ignore the wishes of the people and embark on a wild spree of mad legislation to serve the minority against the majority – well you can but eventually it catches up with you (ipso facto Brown).

Guido, this is totally off at a tangent but I am fuming. I have just heard on the news that our Government have announced that only a very few Gurkhas can be allowed to remain in this country, despite them winning a High Court decision to do so a few weeks ago.

If anything shows the moral bankruptcy of this administration it is this announcement. Okay – our economic situation is dire but these people joined our armed forces and fought for this country – 43,000 died in the World Wars – they are still dying in Afghanistan – and we treat them like this. I am ashamed to be British.

And to make matters worse the meally mouthed Phil Woollas gives an interview saying to allow them to stay would be a dangerous precident – absolute bollocks – we allow radical Islamist preachers to stay but because you fight for this country you are not fit to live here. I wonder how many homes Mr Woollas has – he certainly has never done anything to defend this country.

Thank you so much for signing the Gurkha Justice petition, and joining our
    campaign.

Already, tens of thousands of people have signed: an extraordinary response
in support of an extraordinary group of people.

We demand the full, fundamental change in law that will allow all retired
Gurkhas the right to live here. The Government’s decision on 25th April
goes nowhere near far enough. Many thousands of Gurkhas who served our
country will still be refused the right to live here.

The High Court demanded new rules from the Government. The Government’s
response has been awful. We must be clear. We want the right for all
Gurkhas who have served this country to live here if they wish.

To make the biggest possible impact, we really need more people to sign up:
lots more. We need to form one of the biggest ever campaigns to force the
to change their mind and to show our support for the Gurkha cause.

Your support for the campaign is a fantastic boost: thank you so much. But,
if possible, I need to ask you to help to encourage others to sign.

A housing campaigner killed himself after receiving a £3,000 legal bill from lawyers for Hazel Blears, the Communities and Local Government Secretary. ‘Perhaps you’d like to explain to my family why I can no longer cope and what your position was in ending my life.’
    He then hanged himself.

Mr Hill, 57, had just lost a case he brought on behalf of hundreds of council tenants who faced rent rises. Within half an hour of his court defeat, he received a hand-delivered demand to cover legal fees from Treasury solicitors acting on behalf of Mrs Blears.

Although the e-mail was sent last Saturday – April Treasury solicitors did not alert Greater Manchester Police until three days later.

IE not being able to detect bald people, or brown eyed people or guitar players (being all af these, I know I’m screwed already)

I am sorry I said totalitarianism, because we live in free democracy. I know this is true because according to McNulty:

“We are not knocking down doors at four in the morning with people booted and suited in riot gear. Most of the removals occur around half-five, half-six, seven in the morning.”

Phew, I am so fucking relieved!!! . I am so glad he cleared that one up, We live in free democracy because our detainees are carted off to be detained without trial, later in the morning than detainees in genuine fascist states. I feel safer already.

    horrorfan24 says:

Hahahaha, it always surprises and infuriates me that people refer to this Labour government as “socialist.” This government is not socialist, it is a failed hybrid of both left and right wing ideology. Tony Blair’s Third Way politics. or TINA ( There Is No Alternative) as it became known in academic circles. Ok so New Labour tried to be centralist, but with a very, VERY strong bias towards the right. They extended the freedom of the free market, deregulated it even more than the previous Tory government had done, slashed corporation tax to levels even lower than under Thatcher and they encouraged big business and the financial systems to exploit and abuse all the possible loopholes within the british legal system; in order to keep as much of their profits as they could, without encouraging them to redistribute those obscene profits back into the British ecconomy. They sold off our national gas and power supplies to foreign countries, sold our gold reserves, and for the last 12 years have privileged the needs and desires of big business over the needs of true middle England. Middle England is NOT the 1.5% who earn over 150K a year, middle england are the people who earn between 23 – 40K year. Wake up people, Polly Toynbee’s article is right. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/apr/23/tax-regime-budget These allegations that this rise in tax effects the people of middle England, is a smoke screen, cooked up by the super rich because they are now, having to start paying a bit more money back to a country which has allowed them to make obscene profits for over a decade. Even Thatcher, never went that far (and I can’t believe I’ve just had to say that)

Sorry people, but, leaving the minimum wage aside, those are not the actions of a socialist government. Those are basically the actions of a neo-right-wing one. The very fact that over the last year, this government has spent billions, trying to bail out the greedy banks, banks which they allowed to be increasingly deregulated and self governing (to all intents and purposes) speaks volumesabout whose side they are really on.

This is the third time in less than 100 years that our reliance on the market has put us in hock (1920s/30s – 1980s/90s and again now). My question is, how many more times does the free market need to put us up to our necks in crap before we realise that as a system it is fundementally and irrevocably flawed, and that it will simply never work?

Yes, this is a global problem, but the problem is not one of merely greedy bankers, it is a much more deep rooted one, the problem stems from the inherent and unavoidable inequalities of a corrupt capitalist, deregulated, greedy system. I don’t know what the answer is, but I don’t think either a purely left or right-wing answer exists. I don’t think salvation can be found with either the socialists or the capitalists, neither Labour, nor Tory. I think we do need a “Third way,” but a third way built around a completely new political and ecconomical ideology, one that uses neither capitalist or socialist principals. We have seen that in effect neither ideology can provide the answer, but we must find one, or our world will simply tear itself apart.
We have enough food, technology, services, resources and skills now to become completely autonomous from the old doctrines of the past. I firmly believe it’s time we stopped trying to put plasters on wounds coming from apendages that in order to fix them, really need removing and stitching up.

    • 295
      Doctor Mick says:

Perhaps the “Third Way” (you might as well look for the Fourth Dimension) is to stop pigeonholing politics. Left, Right – there’s bugger all difference in the economics and commond denominator of totalitarianism is merely distinguished because one accuses the other of racism.

There are two theoretical extremes – 1) the planned economy and 2) the totally free market economy. Neither exist in reality but all economies lie somewhere in between the two. Both communism and fascism lie to the former.

Corruption is not confined to capitalist societies. It is human natue and it is endemic in most “peoples socialist democracies” and indeed more likely to flourish there since there is no opposition nor any independent press. I know it does. Actually people are beginning to wonder if we still have that here in the UK.

We must maintain our democracy and ensure that the executive, legislature and judiciary maintain their independence of each other. It has taken us a thousand years to get thus far and this system should be protected with our lives for the sake of our successors. Generations before us have done so without question.

Now you come up with a “Third Way”. Give us a fucking break.

    • 489
      Bad Magic says:

It isn’t the free market that has done this to us, the intervention and government intrusion into free market has. Capitalism is wrongly being blamed here, when its a quasi-socialist agenda that has been redistributing the wealth of some to subsidise another part, which is always wrong. As long as there are taxes our time and our labour do not belong to us! We cannot recover with all this intervention into the market with interest rates forced so low, it discourages saving and encourages immediate spending which is part of what screwed us in the first place. I would like to think the third way alternative you are describing would be complete freedom to use our wealth as we see fit, government kept on the absolute back-burner and just leaving people to live their lives without the scrutiny and you’re-guilty-we-just-haven’t-proved-it-yet attitude of the state. I don’t care if its called capitalism or whatever pseudo intellectual title that is cooked up, what I don’t want is the government spending on my behalf and billing me for life.

Where Brown’s “GLOBAL” argument really falls is that there would be systemic failure in the public fiances even if the the Global credit crunch has not happened

Aussies and Kiwis have a very close relationship with this country.
Many of them of British stock.
Take a look at how many Aussies and Kiwis have died for this country and for more than the past century. Ever heard of Gallipoli where a pack of British politicians and the like squandered the lives of Aussies and New Zealanders for absolutely nothing.
Both nations have been loyal members of the commonwealth.
Britain kicked them in the teeth – particularly New Zealand when it joined the EU and basically told the New Zealanders to sod off.
We have now imposed strict visa conditions on Aussies and New Zealanders visiting, yet still persist in using them as the dumping ground for disgruntled Brits who are fed up with ever more immigrants pouring into Britain.
If any two nations have earned any rights as far as Britain is concerned its the peoples of these two nations.

it’s funny how history repeats itself, innit?
the reason for the racist nature of new labour’s immigration policy is because we follow the immigration rules of the EU.
The EU contains a disturbing number of white european fascist states.
It is rather like an international front.
the EU is an inherently racist organisation and its racism is exposed by its third class treatment of members of the Commonwealth. citizens of mainly white european countries are allowed to move freely, Commonwealth members are not.
and regarding the legitimacy of the EU: our Parliament and Courts are supreme.
that is our constitution and it is not within the gift of the tenant/mps to enter into agreements with foreign powers which annul that supremacy.
constitutionally speaking, all the politicians who signed the various european treaties are traitors and the treaties they have fraudulently signed are not worth the paper they are written on.
they are not legally binding because the traitors who signed them did not have the right or authority to do so.

The latest news from Scotland on the success of Darling’s budget!

“There has been an 11-point shift in the regional vote (the SNP up seven to 37%, Labour down four to 28%). And for Westminster there has been an eight-point shift (the SNP up three to 30%, Labour down five to 32%).

All of these figures are the best SNP polling since last autumn and, if you take Westminster findings, given that a General Election is now on the horizon, then these latest figures would represent a 20-point shift, with the SNP up 12 points on 2005 and Labour eight points down.”

SNP leadership has a 37% positive rating
Scottish Tory leadership second on 10%
Scottish Labour 7% (even worse than the low point of Bendy Wendy Alexander)

Overall there has been a 20% swing to the SNP from Labour in Scotland.
    (source Yougov – Glasgow Herald)

So there are around 2 million Scot’s voters who want to see the back of Brown and his Nu Labour Party. Yet he won’t listen – after all Scotland is no longer important to him as he continues to try to woo ‘Middle England’s prejudices’ with his cut of Scottish pocket money by £500 million in this fiscal year while spending a further £2 billion on London’s Olympics and Cross Rail.

    caesars wife says:

this is all a bit new on me , i had rather thought that gordons budget was a cynical political budget and not one to save the nations prosperity , but to field geoffry robinson , being a bit rude to kirsty walk , left me in stunned silence .
whilst mr chote at TPA has been telling us all (a lot) that darling is not telling the truth , labour field a a wealthy fuddler just to thicken the fog . At this stage in the game right wingers must be thinking where has all the respect gone to actaully be honest with the public , and in darlings case the detail of where his budget is taking us , he/they are elected to govern us and so the most immediate jobs for darling is to convice us of his argument .

i find it all bit shamefull that labour has put poltics into this position , i can understand the need for party , but this is the Uk not a confusion of the voter.

the only answer i can arrive at is that labour do not know what to say , as it is a political budget and therefore it cannot be truthfull or rational as the illusion of the chancellor occupying the office would vanish .

the bumbling affable geoffry robinson , may try and put kirstys questions off “no you have that all wrong” and then refuse to to know anything about ecnomics , but there is clearly more to the none answer of questions (even if by a likable actor) than i had thought .

perhaps it is hubris , that darling is refusing to use ecnomic theories to support hsi policies , but then i wonder if he really is qualified , perhaps that isnt right word , i mean if he has mastered his subject , he certainly doesnt want anyone to test his theories , but then again neither does gordon brown .

this is a political budget , a year may now wasted in turning round the UK from the certain ten years of economic peril it faces . which was written all over the grinning face of gordon at the budgets presentation in parliment .

“the greatest chancellor we ever had ” was one tag spun to make us think he was Blairs heir , when he was using his creative accountacy and Blair did the point making .

of course what is so great about him now , it seems that ten years have done little for the well being of our country other than provide , a vote winning positive politics machine only to be followed by an equally biblical famine , with no grain house built to store for these times in between .

the second biggest bust in 100 years and labour field geoffry robinson , darling does not answer questions with even the slightest reference to the office he holds , and the pm sits grinning like a dicatator , veiwing his critics mistakes before he conjures up trumped up charges against them .

the west end useually puts on plays and drama with actors , although labour clearly want to get in on the franchise .

politics is not just one idea , i understand that , and i also get that you parties ideas only come out of the sheds when they are needed for election . but government is about being the executive and as such it is answerable . to its people .

labour may well thinking as if you have any dealings with union labour “you can f off until the election” , quite where they found this idea on the abuses of power , is somthing you cant speak to them much about , if your ignorant , people will conclude you are lying , if you cant make the argument people will assume you are deceiving them . this is no big science the non partisan see through arguments , but it is the way this government want to crush the non partisan argument , spy on them manipulate them not even debate with them .

kelvin mckenzies one liner that gordon “should get a bottle of scotch and a derringer” chimed with me . but younger people wouldnt get it , parliment refers Mps as Honourable members , ie they stand on there honour , some things require appology , some things to resign , some thrown to the wilderness and dogs or even prison . thai is why i find this non answer , spiv spin duch a degrading of public service .

i can recall blair appologising in parliment a number of times , although later on it was hard to see where upmarket confidence was and the lies , but certain members were working against him , so it might explain a few things although i am not conviced about his entire record , and he turned governance into showbiz which has got us here .

fine nuansces are lost on a PM who throws nokias and laser printers , all he can do is spin his line , play his worn out line and decieve the people .

it is not so much standard practice for a goverment burdend with corruption and sleaze , or even one that has gonne on too long to behave like this , it is a culture of corruption and lies requiring a great dictator to keep it going , it is clear gordons megalmanic ego controls his intellect , and quite afew monkeys are prepared to do his bidding .

but it is changing , the ecnomic arguments are being won every day , nothing will be left of labour except , dark corrupt heart , that will be left to the crows od history to pick and feast upon , nu labour is carrion , the iccident happend in 2007 when they knifed blair and the plotters and rotters , took the title by ill means and with ill policies .

caesars wife raises his glass to the labour party , for yet again repeating history and proving that scoialism is flawed and only spreads vice to all and imprsions virtue as its slave .

      Ted Bundy says:

“Labour hate Ghurkhas” – you got it in one. Labour doesn’t like Ghurkhas because they are a link to Britain’s Imperial past and Empire, a period which they utterly despise. They have spent the last 12 years vandalising every part they possibly can of our Imperial heritage and treating our own home grown servicemen like utter shit. So the last thing they want is a proud Ghurkha army marching in whom with their fine standards and traditions simply just don’t fit into our wonderful socialist paradise.

Labour postal votes can't be trusted says:

    GUARDIAN

New evidence has emerged of postal-voting irregularities in the race to be the next Labour parliamentary candidate in the previously safe London seat of Erith and Thamesmead.

Over the last month, sources in the constituency have claimed that supporters of Georgia Gould, the 22-year-old daughter of New Labour grandee Philip Gould, have been soliciting postal vote applications from local party members in apparent contravention of Labour’s rules.

The bottom line is that these people have fought and died for this country in war after war – count how many have actually also won the VC – we owe them a debt of honour to allow them to settle here if they so wish(and we’re only talking about those that were discharged the army prior to 1997 who don’t actually have an automatic right anyway and how many is that probably at most a few 1000)What debt do we owe some of the immigrants – especially those from the new accession countries of the EU – zilch that’s what and yet we allow them and others from outside the commonwealth some of who “hate this country and it’s traditions” to come here,

The actions of this government in regard to this issue doesn’t really surprise me – after all this is a government that has very little honour or moral authority anyway to this country or its own history or traditions of which it is embarrassed and ashamed(well there are millions of people – Mr Brown who aren’t ashamed of their history like your government and know when a debt for faithful service to the Crown requires to be paid in full).

This is just another tick on the score sheet of why this bankrupt government and Prime Minister needs to be thrown out of office at the next election. This Prime Minister is totally unworthy to occupy the office!!

    Robert Catesby says:

    A LESSON FROM HISTORY.
I have signed the petition. We all should. He won’t resign but he will know how unpopular he is. As soon as the media get hold of this poll the numbers will skyrocket. At least half the internet aware Labour party members will sign.

If Gordon goes who replaces him? When Tony went, he wasn’t replaced by his deputy, John Prescott. We got Brown. The greater or lesser of two evils?

If Gordon goes we won’t get a general election – so who would we get?

    REMEMBER IDI AMIN.
Milton Obote, the then President of Uganda, was visiting London. He had a nasty reputation. When a certain Idi Amin took power in his absence there was much rejoicing in having removed a tyrant and despot like Obote. So then they had Idi Amin.
We must be very careful what we wish for.

Surely our last best hope can’t be the Queen to call an election. I wonder if a petition for this might have been more productive.

        Could be.

But how can we be certain that someone isn’t tampering with the figures?

What’s going on? Is Number 10 fiddling the numbers?

The number of signatures is actually dropping slightly at the moment. Someone in Downing Street is clearing out some of the signatures. Presumably this is those who’ve signed with silly names.

I don’t have a problem with this in principle but if they’re going to take the process that seriously, then I hope the response from GB when this thing reaches 200k will be equally serious.

The petition just bounced from 6171 votes to 6184 then back to 6171 again then back to 6184.

And 34 names have been added since the petition registered at 6171.

Number 10 must be manipulating these numbers.

Any of you anti- Gurkha half-wits in touch with the political situation in Nepal? The country is effectively run by the Shining Path Maoists. What chance does a retired gurkha have of avoiding the midnight Molotov Cocktail through the window? I’ve no doubt many of you beat your breasts over Churchill returning the Poles to Stalin and certain death. Thats what Brown is attempting to do with the Gurkhas. The Nepalese work hard, invariably have better english skills than many brits ,cause no trouble in the community, and have little contact with the Race Relations Industry. Give me a nepalese over a socialist, Labour or BNP, anytime.

    Thank you for your e-petition.

I regret that so many people have signed this petition as it indicates that my replacement Press Officer has not been doing his job properly over the last few months and I should just like to say that I take full responsibility for this dreadful state of affairs.

Rest assured that those responsible will be held fully accountable. I have written to the Cabinet Secretary asking that he tighten the rules to prevent a repeat of this unfortunate episode and I shall not let this disgraceful lapse in standards divert me from getting on with the very important job at hand, the job that all fair-minded voters and hard-working families want me to dedicate myself to, saving the world.

A reminder of why we used to read The Telegraph

Havildar Bhanubhakta Gurung, who has died aged 86, was awarded a VC when serving as a rifleman in the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Gurkha Rifles in Burma on March 5 1945.
……. The following day “B” Company, with which Bhanubhakta was serving, was ordered to retake Snowdon East “regardless of cost”. Bhanubhakta’s citation (in which his name was spelled Bhanbhagta) recorded that: “On approaching the objective, one of the sections of the company was forced to the ground by a very heavy light-machine-gun, grenade and mortar fire, and owing to the severity of this fire was unable to move in any direction. “While thus pinned down, the section also came under accurate fire from a sniper in a tree some 75 yards to the south. As this sniper was inflicting casualties on the section, Rifleman Bhanbhagta Gurung stood up and, while fully exposed to heavy fire, calmly killed the enemy sniper with his rifle, thus saving his section from suffering further casualties.” Bhanubhakta then began to run for the top of the hill, yelling for his comrades to follow him. Though the casualties were heavy, the section ploughed forward until within 20 yards of their objective, when the Gurkhas were again halted by exceptionally heavy fire. Without waiting for any orders, Bhanubhakta dashed forward alone and attacked the first enemy foxhole. Throwing two grenades, which killed the two occupants of the trench, he immediately rushed on to the next enemy foxhole and killed the two Japanese in it with his bayonet. All this time he was under continuous light-machine-gun fire from a bunker on the north tip of the objective, and two further fox-holes were still bringing fire to bear upon the section. Bhanubhakta dashed forward and cleared these trenches with bayonet and grenades. He then turned his attention to the machine-gun bunker, and realising, as the citation put it, that it “would hold up not only his own platoon which was not behind him, but also another platoon which was advancing from the west”, he pushed forward a fifth time to knock out the position. “He ran forward and leapt on to the roof of the bunker from where, his hand grenades being finished, he flung two No 72 smoke grenades into the bunker’s slit.” Two Japanese rushed out of the bunker, partially blinded by the smoke and with their clothes aflame with phosphorous; Bhanubhakta promptly killed them both with his kukri. One Japanese soldier remained inside, holding up 4 Platoon’s advance with the machine gun. Bhanubhakta crawled in and, prevented by the cramped space from using his bayonet or kukri, beat the gunner’s brains out with a rock…….

So some want another good sized town built in England.
This is what some 30,000 Ghurkas and all their dependents would mean.
We saw what 13,000 Poles meant.
These ghurkas have pensions and their own country to live in.
    England/Britain is FULL.
Our roads are clogged, our schools and hospitals overstretched.
Where is the housing for these some 100,000 people coming from.
Presumably it is expected the state will provide homes. Where? With what? At whose expense?.
We haven’t even got homes for English people. They come at the bottom of any housing list.
    The government have this right.
They are wrong in not imposing the same draconian measures against all other would be immigrants.
The answer to the problem of the Eastern Europeans is to get OUT of Europe.
Your chance to vote for anti-EU candidates in a month or so. Take it!!!

  343. plus ca change says:

And yet for the last couple of hundred years, it has the Somalians who were the most trusted and revered merchant sailors in the British Navy, Somalia being a British protectorate until 1960 – like Nepal.

And Nepal’s hardly a stable situation at the moment, with the toppling of the monarchy, so opening those floodgates will lead to gun-toting Nepalese turning up at the borders to crash with senile granddad whilst they set up their drug and prostitution empire.

    Probably.

  344. Doctor Mick says:

13,000 Poles came here to work and gave more than they took. The Ghurkas would not be spongers and would be 30,000 assets.

So they fought for you in two world wars? and sare still a vital part of our fighting forces- Go away and read about how they fought/and fight for us before you make these statements. – But you don’t want to give them anything in return for their immense sacrifice and courage?. Good on ya’. Even our home grown soldiers from two world wars and those of the present day acknowledge these men as being ‘amongst the bravest in the world. ‘ These are men who have fought and died/and are still dying for our causes, whatever we might think of those causes. They are world renowned for their tremendous courage and they have used that courage unstintingly for the British people. Frankly I’d be proud to count even one of them amongst my friends or neighbours. I couldn’t say the same for Gordon Brown and his people, I would hate it if I lived near any of them.

  347. Seeeeee ya, I'm off to Zug! says:

Good thing everyone’s leaving then! In two years time, you’ll have plenty of room!

  348. AC1 says:

The “main problem” of Eastern Europeans is that their experience of communism close up has led them to actually value hard work.

They just makes the UKs benefit addicted underclass look even worse.

  349. BNP Supporter says:

Why not allow the Ghurkas here but we allow anyone else in, because the Gurkhas are pro British. We should let them in and kick most of the others out.
These Guys have at least earnt their place in this fast declining country.

  350. Doctor Mick says:

Aye, send Broon back tae Scotland and import a Ghurka!

  351. Anonymous says:

    Well said Nell. Salute due.

  354. Ruth Kelly's plaything says:

    Dead right, Nell.

I’m profoundly suspicious of that creep Woolas’s estimate of 100,000. It sounds to me like the reverse of the ‘13,000 from eastern Europe’ claim.

That was a lie meant to lull us into acceptance.

This figure of 100,000 is probably a lie meant to justify a mean, nasty, racist decision.

Like everything about NuLab, it stinks.

  355. Grumpy Old Man says:

    Good for you, nell

  356. No room at this inn. says:

30,000 plus dependents. Rather different. Could be 10 each. 300,000.
How are we to house them.
Plenty of New Zealanders and Australians fought for this country too.
Can they just march in and demand to stay here?. NOT
    Lets get real here.
    This country is full.
It is one of the most populated countries on the planet. Over populated.
    Enough is enough.
Another up to 300,000 – or even more people – is too many.

  357. If its not on the BBC then its true says:

Yeah like claiming child benefit and tax credits for the six kids left back at home.

  358. Olly boy says:

Yes Aussies and Kiwi’s fought for us but Gurkha’s have fought for this country since the 1800’s and have a long standing relationship with this country. This country owes them a lot and at the very least should welcome them with open arms. I suggest you learn a little more about their history before you start saying things like that.

  359. Anonymous says:

No room at the inn – What planet are you from?

The Ghurkas deserve a fair deal. Since we abandoned Hong Kong, the former base for the Ghurka Brigade, they have lived in this country. Anyone who spends 15 years or so in the Queens uniform deserves all the benefits of citizenship.

The Ghurkas have earned the right to be British in blood and sweat. Unlike the generations of dole grabbers who can only call themselves British due to the accident of birth of being born on a english council estate and not in a mud hut in Nepal.

NuLabour luvvies have just pandered to the scum element in their “safe seats”; those who might go and vote for racists because because they fear for their handouts. So the luvvies have picked on the bravest of the brave, the poor old Ghurkas who in this fight cannot defend themselves.

The treatment of the Ghurkas is a disgrace and yet another reason why:

    BROWN MUST GO NOW!

  360. Doctor Mick says:

    Could be 10 each.

Could be 100 each. I see you learned your estimating techniques at the London Skool of Eek’n'Omics.

We could make an awful lot of room by kicking out the moronic horde that wears Burberry and has a pitbull on the end of a rope,

  361. AC1 says:

Maybe we can kick out one dole scrounger for every Gurkha we let in.

  362. nell says:

    Thank you

  363. No room at this inn. says:

And are you going to foot the taxation for all the extra homes, schools, hospitals, roads, etc etc etc to house another 300,000 (30,000 with 10 dependents each)?
Please, when you generously decide to put all these folk into Britain will you now tell us where?
Which town – which bit of green belt goes under?
Have you any concept as to how many more people this is.
We are sixty million (give or take)
    300,000 is one twentieth.
For every 20 poeple in this country it is proposed to being in one gurkha or dependent.
Once more the indigenous Brit sees their country further occupied and their voting as as people, yet further diluted.
Have to worked out the cost to the public purse when we face a deficit of £703 billion.
These people have other places to live – they get good pensions – the spending power of which is very important to third world countries.
There is no case for them coming here.
    We are are overpopulated now.
Check out the site of the Optimum population trust.

  364. Hacked_off says:

To hear that fucking jobs-worth turd stand up and spout about it all being in the rules and we cannot make any exceptions made be ashamed to call myself an Englishman. This sums up everything that is wrong with this poor benighted country: it is run by naive jumped-up jobsworths promoted above their ability who have never done a real job in their lives.

These bastards are not fit to lick the boots of the Gurkas – including a VC. You have to EARN that the hard way.

  365. nell says:

Dear Anonymous, the Gurkhas are Great for Britain. Once when I was in the Thetford Forest as a European 5b Officer (offering advice to farmers) long-long ago thankfully (and I have since taken help from a Derek Draper type figure to come to terms wth my sad past!), the Gurkhas in training , came up out of the ferns as I sat having my lunch. they scared the hell out of me. They have fought for us for more than a hundred years, losing 42000 men, and Yes! that figure is right! We should give them everything they need and send MP’s and the labour crew to Mars to make room, if that’s necessary.

  366. Darcy says:

I think we all agree that the country owes the Gurkhas a huge moral debt. However, expressing this gratitude by allowing 100,000 – 150,000 of them and their dependents to the UK is at best questionable logic.

Firstly, many Gurkha dependents are unlikely to speak English well enough to effectively contribute here in the UK. At a time of rising unemployment, inviting them all to come to the UK seems reckless in the extreme. I would much prefer to see educational and cultural exchanges for Gurkhas and their families and investment in post-service training and skills for ex-servicemen. If we bring them here, as much as this might seem to be a fair reward, this will further deplete a valuable labour resource in Nepal and cause social difficulties there.

For those that question the morality of allowing Gurkhas to risk their lives on our behalf only to refuse citizenship, I don’t disagree but I would point out that for many Gurkhas, being accepted to the British Army is already like wining the lottery. Joanna Lumley’s heart may be in the right place, but she is really seeing this issue in one dimension. The interests of the Gurkhas are best served in the long term by leaving them where they are and instead investing in Nepalese infrastructure, healthcare and education.

However, for the future intake, there is no reason why with additional education and training, and a minimum standard of English, Gurkhas and their families couldn’t be fast tracked ahead of any other immigrant applicant.

  367. Ratsniffer says:

The reason that Labour isn’t treating the gurkhas in the same way it does, er, more “vocal” elements of the “community” is that there aren’t enough votes in it for them.

Labour will suck up to anyone, no matter how much they hate this country in order to get votes.

But look after some brave soldiers who have worked for the country? Nah. The military is not very NuLabour, is it? No votes in it.

    Hoons.

  368. nell says:

I’d rather foot the bill for anything the immensely courageous Gurkhas need than I would foot the bill for anything the bloodsucking MP’s are seeking in expenses. I suspect the Gurkhas will cost us less and do us more credit. Build a township for them? Yes! I would.! If that’s what they want. Though I’d prefer they lived amongst us. I’d be happy to have them as friends. I know which would be best for Britain- Courageous Gurkhas who have fought for us for more than a centiry or leaching MP’s who have ’served’, almost two terms in parliament.

  369. So17 says:

Sod the consequences. Just because every government since 1948 has let the immigration horse bolt that is no reason to slam the door now in the face of loyal citizens.
That applies to all ex service personnel from round the world.

  370. don’t be a twat all your life….we owe the gurkhas, and frankly they would be an asset to this country. They are exactly the kind of people we need to help drag us out of the depression.

  371. stun says:

60mm, 300,000 (ridiculously over exagerrated). One twentieth? Get ye back to ye Labour sponsored inner city Technical College for Hoons. Maybe it was multiplication what done New Laba in, innit.

  372. DR says:

Do you work for the “Wrong Numbers” section of the Treasury?

One twentieth of 60 million is 3 million!

  373. Anonymous says:

    You can’t do maths pal

300000 (and thats your made up figure anyway ) times 20 is only 6 million–you are out by 10 x

300000 would be one 200th of the present population.

The poor fellas must be deluded if they want to come to this shithole anyway.

  374. Anonymous says:

300,000 is one two hundredth of 60 million. Just thought you might want to know.

I think you need to try and put your little tome on http://www.arrse.co.uk and see what the good people on that site say,try telling ex squaddies that and you may get a hearing on the other hand maybe not, also remember that Nepal has a little problem itself, could be the same problem we have called communist infiltration, these guys have done a job for us now it’s time for us to pay.

  383. Olly boy says:

How patronising are you?! “Gurkahss are unlikely to speak English”. Give me a break! They probably speak better English that half of the so-called native English spongers that live here.

This is Great Britain for goodness sake. We OWE them and therefore they deserve our hospitality.

  384. English Liberation Front says:

Darcy @ 12.11 am: All of these arguments could be applied to the other immigrants New Labour has encouraged to flood in.

There is no requirement to speak English. New Labour waste millions having government publications printed in multiple languages. A 14-year old schoolgirl was accused of racism and arrested for requesting to join another group in a science project because the pupils in her allocated group were speaking urdu which she did not understand.

The interests of many immigrants are best served by leaving them where they are and New Labour are already wasting millions “investing” (New Labour euphemism for “wasting”) in overseas infrastructure, healthcare and education (New Labour euphemisms for supporting corrupt African governments).

I’d rather have the Ghurkas. All the New Labour voters and supporters in the country can piss off to the communists in Nepal or some other communist country – that would make plenty of room.

  385. Minekiller says:

You complete fuckwit. Have you counted up all the immigrants that have come to the UK since 1997 and how many of their dependents speak English. Plus the Gurhkas served in our Army ie they worked for the country!

I went to Bradford University and I can tell you Darcy, that take a walk through Bradford, stop a ‘person of sub-continental origin’ and they (a) will ignore you as they don’t like whites (racist against whites that is), (b) don’t speak English.

What more do you need to know?

  386. Ratsniffer says:

I’d rather have 100,000 Gurkhas and their familes here than one of you.

  387. Sir Reginald Titbrain says:

The Gurkhas are here already. You don’t see them. Lurking quietly in most municipal gardens and parks they move stealthily, only coming out for food and drink before mysteriously melding back into the undergrowth. I suspect there is a small contingent in my garden, and am frightened to mow the lawn.

It would also bring a whole new meaning to the phrase; “Safer Neighbourhood”.

  397. Sir Reginald Titbrain says:

  404. Rob says:

Ever since they gave Wellington the fright of his life the ghurkalis have been enrolled in the British Army and have loyally laid down their lives fighting a host of desperate wars on our behalf and for pure raw courage are first amongst the many. I would rather have the whole nepali nation living on my doorstep than the myriad of terrorists, thieves, murderers, illegal immigrants, and global spongers who have been foisted on us by this odious government who have and still do have an open door policy to the riff raff of the world but slam the door shut on the loyalest foreign troops ever to take the queens shilling.
Brown should hang his head in shame – courage – which he is always banging on about, He does not know the meaning of the word.

  405. Ratsniffer says:

You’ll get no shame from the Snotgobbler. He wants votes and cheap slave workers hence his addiction to mass immigration. The Gurkhas are decent, honourable people but they work for the military – hence they are labour hate figures.
