Budget Message : Sod Off If You Are Successful
Guido isn’t going to do much on the budget, the FT is probably the best place to go for coverage. As soon as the 50% tax hike was announced emails pinged into the inbox along the lines of “That’s it, I’m off to Switzerland”. What is Labour saying to those who work hard and become successful? “We will punish you” seems to be the message.
Good news for Dublin and Dubai. They will welcome entrepreneurs with lower tax rates and open arms. Guido would not be surprised if this measure ends up reducing revenues as people flee penal tax rates.

All those successful bankers you mean Guido?
Yes. Who pay huge tax bills. The unsuccessful ones will still be in the UK and on the dole.
These communist morons haven’t heard of the Laffer curve.
Guido, the BBC have relegated their “Have your say” feature on the budget near the bottom of the news website. If you take a look the comments are almost universally critical of the government – what a coincidence!
Send Gordon the Shirt Off Your Back Campaign at Old Holborn
Get an old shirt, stuff it in an envelope and send it to:
Gordon Brown
10 Downing St
London
SW1A 2AA
Saves him coming round and ripping it off your fucking back. The bastard
This is pathetic envy politics purely to have a swipe at the Tories. In the process, as you say, people will leave. Companies will think twice about basing here. Entrepreneurs will re-base.
The revenue upside? Negative.
It is Socialism. The Left should hang their head in shame, but instead they are probably jumping with joy.
The Laffer Curve?
Oh yeah, that’d be the same Laffer curve dreamt up by the same supply side economists whose theories caused the economic mess we’re in at the moment.
I guess if you believe in that kind of voodoonomics you probably believe that Switzerland is gagging to welcome our world beating entrepreneurs.
Laffer curve… had to look that one up.
I know if If increase taxes on my ‘Sim city’ the miserable twats all fuck off and I get holes in the road.
Bar stewards! don’t these sims know its all for their own good?

Yes, they certainly are. I’m off there myself to work on contract. I’m no entrepreneur, but I earned more than 150K and therefore according to the Government, I’m an unwanted, not hard-working rich sod. I advise everyone who can to get to hell out of here and watch the country go down the plug-hole in comfort.

And of course, if only the top rate of tax hadn’t been increased you’d have stayed.
A tragic morality tale for our times.
Soak The Rich
The same supply side economics that payed for the experiment in multiculturalism of which you are no doubt so proud.
Without the top 1.5% of earners paying for 25% of the tax take and the next 10% of earners paying for a further 25% of the tax take, so called multiculturalism will be revealed as just third world poverty being injected onto Britain. There is no hope what-so-ever of your socialist dream utopia being able to pay for it or stopping the proverbial river foaming up and down the land.
Multiculturalism?
Do tell what that has to do with the top rate of tax going up.
Someone who clearly knows their way around the Red Book has left this comment on my blog.
Look at the UPDATED AGAIN section
Debt at 87.2% of GDP!!!!
Soak the rich
are you Ed Balls?
because you sound like a total ****
50% of the total tax paid in this country comes from the top 12.5% of earners
If you push up the rate of tax beyond 40%, the total tax take drops. Because people either move abroad, work less hard or take other avoiding action.
The supply side revolution the 1980′s saw the total tax take rise sharply, paying for your socialist utopia ideas and dreams (including multiculturalism). Reverse it and there ain’t no more money for your dreams, your probably out of a job and your multicultural utopia descends into civil bleeding war.
If you want to have a pop at the darkie hoards you’re on the right forum. It’s just that trying to hang your swivel eyed little englander diatribe on a post about the budget doesn’t really follow. It’s something of a non sequitur (sorry for the johnny foreigner speak).
Still, fill your boots. It’s always fun watching a bit of frothing.

What a dunce, have you never heard of the Community Reinvestment Act?
Christ why are socialists so dim?
Or throw old shirts at Brown in public?
Surely the BBC would approve, they love the recent adoption of that quaint Islamic custom of throwing footwear
“What a dunce, have you never heard of the Community Reinvestment Act?

Can I recommend the twat-o-tron… http://ifyoulikeitsomuchwhydontyougolivethere.com/the-twat-o-tron/
You’ll end up sounding much the same but it’ll stop your head from hurting with all that thinking.
Die a slow painful death, Culpability Brown, you fucking joyless mean-spirited one-eyed Caledonian calamity and (ultimately) almighty loser. No-one likes you, because you are genuine 24-carat scum.
It won’t win him any votes except in places like Barnsley and Glenrothes where it doesn’t matter anyway, but in the meantime him and his Old Labour chums are probably having multiple orgasms.
Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
“It’s just that trying to hang your swivel eyed little englander diatribe ”
swivel eyed? brilliant!
you really are NuLab aren’t you?
you just don’t get it.
by the way aren’t you working a bit late for the public sector, or are you really ed balls’ butler?
I should phone daddy up and be nice to him because this time next year you might not have a job and you may have to start looking for a real one.

or
2.You’re already working for daddy.

Ken Boston tells the commons committee on SATS today (budget day): “there comes a time when ministers (ie boobleyed Balls) have to take accountability and resign”.
Fingered and squashed Testicles.
one minute Guido and the tories are moaning about too many public workers being paid far too much money. now these public servants will be paying more tax and therefore their net cost to the taxpayer will be reduced and you still aren’t fucking happy.
make your minds up you tarts and get your story straight.
at the moment your line is all over the fucking shop.
only 2% of the population earns in excess of 150K.
who gives a fuck about such a small constituency?
they ‘aint gonna starve.
if the tories really were a party of low taxation they would have demanded that the banks we have majority shareholdings in be nationalised to fund the tax breaks.
I can only conclude that dave cameron and gideon osborne are full of shit.
they are only interested in tax breaks for the rich and they don’t give a fuck about people on low incomes.
innit!
Most of those “successful” bankers they only successful at pulling the wool over investors and shareholders eyes that they were making shed loads of money when it turns out it might as well have been made of wet tissue paper. Of course they made their big money before it was realised what a shambles they had bequeathed. Whilst the good times looked good, people didn’t ask too many questions (the chancellor included). As Maddoff proved, if you give people what looks like a good deal, then they won’t ask too many questions until its too late (rather Brown did when looking at the tax revenues from the city – just take the money and don’t ask too many questions).
Of course the real irony is that not many of these types were really wealth creators or risked their own money in the way that a Richard Branson did. Once that they’d climbed, spun and manouevered their way to the top of the corporate tree they spent more effort maximising their own earnings and landing their shareholders with companies up to their necks in debts through fashionable financing schemes (a bit like the chancellor did to the country).
I’ve seen enough of these types in action to know that many of them are just there for whatever they can grab from the rightful owners of the business. Get the money in the short term then scram and rely on the same tight circle to look after their own. The human race will never learn – bubbles inflated by greed and wishful thinking will be forever with us, as will arrogant, self-opinionated types who got a bit lucky at the right time in the right place and made some personal money out of it.
The only good bit of this will be to see Gordon Brown humbled with his arrogant assertions about how he’d single handedly abolished boom and bust, saved the world and all his other bluster. But it’s a heavy price to pay, even to see that ego pricked (that’s assuming there is anything long enough to get through that thick skin).
Socialism always fails when the state runs out of people and other peoples money to extort.
The government does not own you so it’s entitled to enslave you for zero percent of your time.
It’s time to end the modern day slavery that is socialism.
So it was socialism that caused the collapse of the free market?
The brothers will be ecstatic to learn that. To them it looked more like suicide than murder.
Soak the rich and they stop warming the bathtub up.
Tax the bathwater they use, not the warmth they create.
Though cowards scoff and traitors sneer,
we’ll deregulate the market and watch the whole shooting match collapse under its own greed.
Doesn’t scan or rhyme but, hey, who cares? This is the looking glass world.
Have a look at my Blog for the Article “When you turn your currency into a commons you’ll get a tragedy” for a explanation of how the credit crunch was regulated into existence.
Splendid stuff. Barking, but nonetheless splendid.
Can I suggest a few more articles for your blog?
How pacifists caused the Iraq conflict.
Virginity – The root cause of the AIDS epidemic.
Ho ho ho. The indignation of socialist criminals at the thought of people exercising their right to relocate to another country is a wonderous thing to behold.
Wait till May 7th 2010, this same band will be given wall to wall coverage by Pravda/BBC to bemoan the fact that the electorate are such an ungrateful bunch of shits and should not be allowed to vote unless it is for Labour.
On May 7th 2010 can we just skip the show trials and go straight to the piano wire bit.
Don’t worry about it. Those of us that didn’t run away will muddle through.
139, Actually you Hoon they are. God only knows there is one country that still appreciates bankers and traders but then again you wouldn’t know about that would you, being a complete total wanker whose sole source of information is probably Derek Draper’s Labourlist.
You sir remain a Hoon.
“You sir remain a Hoon.” Could you be any more pompous?
Is that how they speak ’round your way? If you throw in a few “prithee sirrah’s” and “mountebank’s” if you really want to hurt my feelings.
I pity your lack of ability to understand how the economy works, but then you’re a socialist.
…and a criminal. Don’t forget the criminal.
…and, of course, a Hoon.
soak the rich = as bright as a toc h lamp
@Soak the Rich
You’re a cad and a bounder.
Still, not dim enough to believe that the collapse of the banking system was due to an excess of regulation eh?
Soak the rich = jealous jealous jealous and unsuccessful
It’s a fascinating site.
You’ve got Guido doing great stuff and a peanut gallery of pathetic little tory boys who can’t even manage a decent insult between them.
If you can’t handle a dissenting voice at least try a bit harder to scare me off.
Where are you sad little cheerleaders going to go when your lot get elected, which they will, and Guido turns his cannons on them?
I’ve always thought it bad form to insult retards
I mean nobody does sleaze like the tories.
What’s a couple of juvenile e-mails compared to dressing up in your mothers stockings, shoving an amyl soaked orange in your gob and wanking yourself to death?
Roll on the new regime.
“I’ve always thought it bad form to insult retards”
Oh yeah, your the embittered ex-pat still whining about how bad it is in the old country? It won’t be long ’til, like all your type, you hate your new country even more.
Bottoms up old chap.
Thankfully the country I have relocated to have a tax treaty with the UK which means the sumbag socialist filth that infests the UK can only take 10% of part of one of my pensions. They can’t touch the other two, which means I pay a far lower rate where I am.
It hardly matters. That just means you’ll have enough cash to sit around drinking yourself to death with the other embittered ex-pats.
Chin-chin.
“Oh yeah, your the embittered ex-pat still whining about how bad it is in the old country? It won’t be long ’til, like all your type, you hate your new country even more.
Bottoms up old chap.”
Actually not embittered at all old chap, and thoroughly enjoying life in my new location, far more civilised than the socially engineered hell hole that I left.
Now be a dear and aim your foam flecked bile ridden class hatred at Polly Toynbee, she’s far more deserving of it than a working class lad such as me.
You’re arguing on a site devoted to the minutiae of politics from just that hell hole.
No I’m not. Now shouldn’t the nurse have come round by now with your night time dose of largactil.
I’m more of a heroin and glue sniffing type but Largactyl will do when I can’t get to my dealer.
Oh the joys of relocating to a place where fuel is the equivalent of 35p a litre, their equivalet of VAT is 5% and gruniard advertised non-jobs for socialist proles and no hopers just don’t exist.
Oh and the joy of having socialist voting vermin having to pay one of my pensions and they can’t tax a penny of it.
Exactly the kind of sponger we can well afford to lose then.
The only sponging being done is by socialist filth.
I’ve paid my dues to the full and in three years time will get the old age pension. (Yes, yet another pension which I have fully paid into). Now as you’ve fallen into the trap of all socialist vermin, by becoming a crashing bore and boorish too, I’ll put it as succinctly as possible, fuck off tosser and earn your keep.
I’ve got a big box of kleenex here and some Victor Silvester strings playing on my phonogram.
I can’t tell you how touching I found that little potted biography.
By the way, I do hope you’ve kept your BUPA payments up to date. With that anger of yours there’s no telling when the old ticker might… well you know.
No anger ‘old boy’, just having a laugh at at total loser.
And no problems with the ticker either, being an extremly fit working class lad.
Now it’s past your bed time so shouldn’t you be getting some sleep before work tomorrow. Of course you don’t do you. Apart from staring at the monitor waiting hopefully for the next comment to rail against shouldn’t you be getting out a bit more and broadening your horizons.
You ought to go back and review what you’ve written. It doesn’t look like you’re having a lot of fun.
In fact it looks like a mad rant.
Tell you what, I am off to bed now, but if you’re still around in the morning I’ll put you in touch with a psychologist pal of mine who can help you with those anger management issues.
Nice chap. Name of Dr Draper.
I thought he’d never go.
Why are socialist vermin such crashing bores.
Soak the Rich won’t be joining the brain drain anytime soon.
Nice chap. Name of Dr Draper.
Ah yes the quack who falsified his qualifications, is about to be struck off, who is wanted in the United States for non payment of fines and soon to be booted out of the party of scumbags.
Physician heal thyself. Draper you really are a first class failure now do yourself a favour and top yourself.
Soak the Rich, please do yourself a favour and find out what really causes economic bubbles, booms, and busts. You obviously have plenty of time on your hands, presumably because ‘Red Rag’ hasn’t got going yet, so I thought I better provide you with plenty of online material to be getting on with:

The banking sector is about as ‘capitalist’ and ‘free market’ as the NHS. If it was really capitalist, virtually every company within it, and certainly most of the investment banks, would have long been dead and buried via the free market process of creative destructionism. That includes JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, and all of those other American Wall Street banks which have effectively taken over the US Treasury department, and which created the Federal Reserve in the US, back in 1913, to prevent themselves from ever being bothered by business incompetence on their part.
The banking sector is a government-supported scam and has been ever since the Bank of England was created 300 years ago, with all sorts of legal protections granted to banking, by government, in return for the financing of government profligacy and to help government avoid having to use direct taxation for every penny of its spending, hence it could then both increase spending and cut taxes, at the same time, thus growing itself and keeping popular support.
This ruinous process is what has led to the disastorous world we live in today, plagued by socialism in all of its evil national socialist, international socialist, and plain dumb stupid socialist flavours.
The real root of the entire problem is central banking, as run by government, which has completely corrupted the monetary system over the last 300 years, and particularly in the twentieth century, for the benefit of government.
But I haven’t got time to waste explaining this to you, because I’ve got too many taxes to go out and earn so they can be wasted paying for your ‘wages’.
Work your way through the online book list above, instead. You never know, you might actually learn something.
what price £500k+ house prices now?
Top rate of UK tax is now 51% (including the extra 1% of NI slipped in a few years ago)
The revenue maximising rate of tax is thought to be 36%-40%
we’re fucked now.
Top rate is effectively about 62% once the employers NI is taken into account. It’s all taxation on what the employer can afford to pay.
Quite right Rexel56. Don’t forget too that the bastards will also be removing your personal allowances if you earn over £100k (as well as cutting tax relief on pension contributions – the income from whihc will be further taxed when you receive it!!).
Socialist scum, the lot of them!

The Budget – Interest dwindles.
how many of you guys are on 150K+?
if you aren’t on that amount then why the fuck are you moaning?
if you are on that amount, chances are you are turncoat tories who voted for new labour, in which case fuck you.
when you vote for a party of war criminals who kill innocent Iraqi and Palestinian children don’t be surprised if they tax the fuck out of you to pay for it.
consider it blood money.
Thick as pigshite (although this is more for those with a double figure IQ)…
> how many of you guys are on 150K+?
More than you think. Working has no negative externalisations so punishing those who help society by working especially fining the most productive people 62% of their salary (not including 17.5%+ on what they do with their salary) is economically hugely damaging.
People have two options:-
one is to make themselves even less affordable to poorer people by raising their wages to maintain their income and thus increase relative wages.
the other is to work less so they pay the same tax thus depriving society of their productivity.
Both these effects are highly damaging to the future wealth of the country.
>if you aren’t on that amount then why the fuck are you moaning?
It’s called empathy… You being a retard maybe it’s perhaps understandable that you are ignorant but maybe less retarded people would strive to earn that sum?
> if {dribbling incoherant nonsense} consider it blood money.
You’re just a complete twat aren’t you really!
Basically Governments tax income for the same reason that robbers steal from banks, ‘cos that’s where the money is, and fuck the damage it does.
492 AC1
Correct. I bust my guts do not not sit on my arse. I have already ensured this evil government don’t get my hard earned cash because I never bring it into the UK. I will ensure so even more now.
Sorry just fed up with paying for wayne and waynetta’s flat screen.
Rexl56 and Anon
The marginal tax rate at £100k is now 68%
In addition to £1 out of every two you earn going to the IR in leiu of the personal allowance clawback, you will also be paying more of your income at the higher rate (40%) as a result of the slice taken out lower down by the eradicated zero tax personal allowance.
If you add the employers NI that takes the marginal tax take once you go just over 100k to EIGHTY per cent.
Gordon Brown today: “What we are about is aspiration…” Don’t make me laugh – its all about spin.
Yet, another devious backfiring attempt to divert the backbenches and redtops from the disastrous economic news in the budget at the expense of those who can help make the country prosper.
What incentive is there for managers and entrepreneurs wanting to push hard to get into six figures? This is building serious issues for the future, I fear.
Not everyone in this income bracket £150-400k is a wankabanka
It is a spiteful, nasty, typical socialist tax
Whether the useless Camoron and Boy will repeal is anyones guess but even if they do it will take 3 years minimum
All very gloomy
See you successful people in Geneva. Good luck to those who go to Monaco or Dubai
I’m on Swiss Air, Wed first flight. Bon chance
Geneva?
Mug
Canton Zug near Zurich has corporation tax at 9.5 % and income tax at 17%
Yeap, Zug is for me. You can even claim you rent against your income tax bill.
Girls are prettier in Geneva. Better nightclubs. Better restaurants. Why do you think Zug is cheaper. Mug
Which ever canton you move to in Switzerland, you can negotiate your tax payments before you move there. I went through this a few years ago when we were considering moving to Geneva and met with a local accountant a couple of times, arranged by our bank. Even in Geneva, the tax situation can be very favourable indeed but it’s too late to negotiate once you have moved there!
Except that Swiss Air no longer exists
OOPS!
You’re still right though, but the problem with Switzerland is that its so effing BORING! Everything works, trains are always on time, buses are always clean and punctual, you never get short-changed and there’s no bloody emotion. Let me tell you that it does tend to be make one want to come back to Blighty for a while if only just to hear London Underground’s awful excuses …
I’ve stopped paying taxes… on alcohol. I brew my own. Really easy and really cheap. Tastes better, and no nasty chemicals in it.
If anyone is thinking about leaving the country, just remember to retain your right to vote. You can still have your say at the ballot box, even if you live overseas.
Not if you’ve lived abroad more than 20 years like I have.
Successful at what? Fleecing the plebs?
You may be no better than the people you criticise !
Bankers are bloodsucking assholes. I can say that on this blog but not on others, that pleases me.
If you really feel the need to move the country over the tax rate being moved up to 50% – which will actually tax some of the people who actually caused the economic crisis – then you’re probably no loss. I’m all for rewarding hard work but the money needed to bail out the banks has to come from somewhere. What services do you suppose we cut?

Well I’d like to see the Failure Reward system cut.
Say for a start stopping giving out rent free houses to women who get pregnant without a source of income, they can live with their parents or get an abortion.
Making Asylum Seekers relliant and limited by freely given charity not taxation.
Making parents pay for the education of their own children.
I’d replace it with a citizens dividend funded by a physical and intellectual property value tax (as property is an externalisation).
Charging for state schools? That is one of the most unelectable pieces of policy I have ever hard. You do realise that a massive, uneducated and unsocialised underclass would emerge (or grow if you want to be cyncial)?
Don’t blame the bankers, I say “Good luck” grab all you can just as the MPs do. Greed IS good.
Who cares what Anonymous says? Too scared to put a name to your comment?
At least David Kellermann had a sense of honour.
If you’re earning over £150k and you’re worried about a tax rise of 10p in the £ on the excess, you really are a sad bastard. So no empathy there.
Nor need one worry about entrepreneurs leaving in droves.
Real entrepreneurs play to win because they want to win and the money is just the way of keeping score. Parading the bling is for those who like to pretend they’ve bigger balls than those they see in the mirror.
Even though it is a stunt, take the hit and stop bleating.
Again the stupidity of Guido’s sheeplike followers is exposed. He plays them like violins.
They claim to care about shithole Britain, but worship someone who won’t even deign to pay taxes in the land where both his audience and subject matter is.
Full marks to you Guido, but your mob really are cretins.
There is nowhere “to g?” These self-proclaimed wealth-creators mostly don’t create wealth, so are not particularly welcome anywhere. I don’t know what is happening in Dubai, but what entrepeneur would is going to move to Dublin? I have not seen anyone begging “bring your blogging skills to ireland. We sorely need investment banking skills. your abilities to write press releases or do estate agenting?
Your mob will soon find out the libertarianism is a rich man’s folly and when they are poor they will be crying out for a good government not faux libertarian pie-in the sky.
should read
****There is nowhere “to go”***
should read “I am a dipstick” but still
at what point do you stop being a tax payer and start being a state slave? Serfs in the medieval period only paid 1/3 to their lord and they were considered slaves.
The 21st Century, when the slaves begged the pharaoh for work!
Things can only get better – NOT.
Depends WHO for ?
High taxes= Lower revenue.
Thatcher and Regan knew this, Bush lowered taxes and revenues went up.
If only Marx had run a business, instead of spending his life spongeing off others, loungeing around Hamptead and spouting nonesense, he’d have known this too.
If he were alive today he’d be a Uni professor or BBC producer.

Zug is the place
if you’re into paedophilia, great place!
Wasn’t that Norman Wisdom?
Well done Guido for the live chat earlier. I’m here in Dubai and you’re right that there will be a whole load more British expats moving here very soon.
Don’t belive the UK press about this place ,it is most definitely prospering compared to the UK at the moment, you get paid in Dollars and there is no income tax.
See you all soon!
Steve
Zimbabwe is prospering compared to the UK at the moment!!
I always said that old Bob wasn’t such a bad bloke really.
W.W.
Plus the weather’s good and you can still get a few Zim dollars for your Sterling!
…and I forgot – petrol is 20p a litre and cigarettes 90p a packet. Beer’s a little more expensive though, but a fiver a pint is okay when you’re not paying 40% in income tax I guess!
Make sure when you fill up though you have an empty tank on arrival as the cost is 50 dhms
(irrelevant how much you put in the cost sems to be the same)
Oh and you get to sit in A/C while someone fills the car for you.
Nice
The live chat was a bloody disaster. Too may children on, I couldn’t see anything useful.
Nah, too fucking hot….
Stand by for a flood of faux-anguish from posters trying to kid us they are affected by tax hikes on 100- 150K plus. By definition, if you are hanging around chez Guido in the middle of a working day, you’re not up there. (I include myself in this.)That said, it as a crap budget by a dying, flailing, exhausted administration and the 3.5% ‘bounce-back’ prediction is a shameless fantasy. Roll on the election.
Totally agree….
absolute bullshit – i can hang around chez guido all day because i earn loads and have plenty of people doing the daily admin rubbish for me
the only reason i am not complaining is that i am already in switzerland!! otherwise it would be true anguish and a chat to some relocation agents!
So in other words, some other poor sod is working their arse of for you so you can piss of and not pay any tax. Nice.
@88 – you mean some lucky sod has a job thanks to him, you bloody spastic communist twat
Me too Boulay
Quite correct
if that is James – good luck to you.
Faux £150k earners? Cheeky c***. Not everyone is a loser on a bullshit wage. I don’t believe Darling’s figures of 1 and 2% of the population earning these incomes.
There were loads of artisans making tax free incomes in the black economy – my plumber in 2003 let it slip he earnt £160k in 2002.
The economy is screwed. this is survival of the fittest now. Oh and in addition to all the above taxes add a further 15% VAT & other numerous scurillous taxes
ciao
to anonymous (sorry, there was no direct reply tab to your comment) – i do pay tax to the swiss government however nothing like i would in the uk.
and i wouldn’t describe my staff as poor sods either. because of my hard work in the past they have great jobs, i have good clients and everyone makes money and pays some tax somewhere.
i am able to hang around chez guido because i have plenty of time at work by being efficient and if i might say, rather clever.
Quite. I measure myself by cashflow, not time put in like some sort of unionised slacker. 1-2 hours a day sees us nicely in beef dripping and vino rosso, though not in the same goblet I hasten to add.
Gizza job, then.
This is part of the Socialist ‘slash and burn’ policy.
Anybody noticed that this recession has seen more than just redundancies for companies in trouble, but a lot of companies using it as cover to restructure.
Well – it could’ve been worse though – in 1979, for the top earners tax was 107% (both direct and indirect taxation), with the 70% top PAYE tax band, plus all else on top.
The actual take from from the tax will be tiny in comparrison to the hundreds of billions of pounds that are needed to bail out the UK from the mess newlabour has caused.
Notice how newlabour trolls try to smear those who object to the crappy class war dog whistle fuckwittery as though there is a concerted effort to pervert the debate into rich Vs poor class war with blogs like this supporting the greedy rich banksters etc.
We know the tax proposal is a pathetic class war dog whistle and bear trap for the Tories, this is newlabour at its most desperate calling to its core jelousy and spite core vote.
The budget is like forcing us to eat a shit sandwich without the bread but with extra shit and calling us ungrateful if we dont fancy it
The tax hike on the ‘rich’ was simply a vote stealer playing to the client vote, state-tit suckers, idle, sicikies and all the humanities students.
I earn over 100,000 a year and I left years ago…the next batch to leave the UK are just the next wave of wealth creators leaving, following the vast amount already departed since 1997.
This budget, whilst typically Labour and thus very stupid indeed won’t affect rich people beacsue they will re-arrange their affairs, those who have not done already. Those that are affetcted deserve to be fleeced, for being so stupid after 12 years of ZaNULabour rule. No, this is also a viscious political ladnmine left for the Tories, who aside from having to clear up the mess, will have less wealth generators – since darling chose th e50p tax hike to deliberaltey drive them out of the UK.
NuLabour are truly a psychopathic, vicious mob. I hoep that many of them are prosecuted after the election.
The Spinal Tap album was actually Shark Sandwich, Cassandra; only the reviewers called it that.
So, if all the successful entrepreneurs leave (or re-establish their HQ in Ireland or Dubai), who exactly is going to pay for the public sector index linked final salary pension schemes? I think we should be told.
sod it , i’ll just borrow some more cash
Knew that my Jumbo printing kit would come in handy again one day.
Won’t that mean higher interest rates?
Oh I forgot you’ll make depositors in British Nationalised (stolen) banks fund your idiocy (for a while).
URgghh.hUUU !! Urrgghh..HUU! flashing red rotating lamp
Alarm …alarm !
Got it in one old bean! the answer is well mmmm…no one really
UK = Fecked
The state of the UK’s finances is truly, truly dreadful.
Is Gordon Brown the WORST Chancellor of the Exchequer this country has ever had?
He can’t have many competitors ….
I disagree, I believe that Emperor Nero was quite bad, he apparently did a play whilst Rome was burning. Although technically not chancellor of the exchequer he did impose his own unique tax system.
Actually that fiddling while rome burned tale is a fallacy, from what I remember he did actually try to help put it out. What this means is that Gordon is even worse than Nero
Nero – Rome was falling down already when he burnt it to the ground. The truth was he was going to have Rome rebuilt to a Sir Christopher Wren style master plan.
Much better than the neglected tennaments collapsing with proletariat Romans being killed.
The problem he had post-mortem was – it wasn’t him who was going to pay for the rebuild, but the former tennament owners who’d have to pay to rebuild their flats. (Forced renovations!)
Indeed, Nero actually was a major player in trying to save the population of Rome, so much so that he actually made the royal gardens a refugee camp for burnt out citizens and ensured they were all fed and watered.
Gordon is worse than Nero by a long margin. If Gordon was Nero he would have charged them an enterance fee then sold them as slaves afterwards.
Successful bankers may have paid a lot in tax, but their greed and stupidity has cost us more as a nation than they would have ever paid.
eight grand per household according to the IMF yesterday
You are too stupid for words.
The government’s greed and stupidity costs us 45 fucking per cent of GDP EVERY YEAR, you knob
Ah but there is bright news for some. It doesn’t apply to MPs expenses or “Getting Out of Bed and Turning Up For Work” Allowance which remain TAX FREE nor will other perks like the subsidised ‘canteen’ in the House be treated as a benefit in kind
MP’s could be carried in sedan chairs to Westminster to ‘sign on’ for their attendance allowance. This would generate youth employment at a rate of two bearers per MP, maybe four for the fatter ones.
There’s an idea – would get the permanently Unemployed off their arses.
to lift other fat arses?
Brown & his Gang just waste the extra fecking money anyway!
Where was it mentioned about reforming the bloated public sector, stopping gold-plated pensions, ridding the taxpayer of quangoes etc.
Hoons!!!
I feel a bit sorry for Darling. It is Brown who left him this mess and he truly has nowhere to go.
If you fancy a laugh after the depressing budget have a look at Gordon Brown on Britain’s Got Talent.
Thatis very good value. 6 absolute pillocks all in just a few seconds. Pity Dolly could not have been fitted in.
penal taxes?
Good job I’ve not got a massive cock then.
Only till Elf’n'safety find out.
you can have mine, the surgeons are cutting it off next week.
enough of the bollocks!
anthing over two inches should have scaffolding ‘errected’
Where’s Andy Burnham when you need a spare inch or two?
Still trying to find his briefcase on a train apparently
“Successful bankers may have paid a lot in tax, but their greed and stupidity has cost us more as a nation than they would have ever paid.”
…but what about the Politicians who were supposed to regulate? They not only let it happen they created the culture that led to it. They will leave with huge pensions after years fiddling expenses and enjoying feather bedded tax free perks
“Guido isn’t going to do much on the budget,”
Somehow I expect we’ll muddle through.
“Good news for Dublin and Dubai.”
You certainly have a knack for spotting success stories.
Derek? I wondered where you’d been……
Can’t wait for the “Budget” bounce in the polls. I really socked it to Cameron. I sat through his speech practising my “gurning” for when I appear as the mystery guest on “Britain’s Got Talent !” What ? There isn’t one ?
No sorry Prime Minister just the opposite I’m afraid 90% of the electorate think you’re a twat and the other 25% thing you’re deranged !
Hang on that adds up to 115%
Much like your budget then Prime Minister
Labour eduekayshun
terrible!
Can’t say I’m surprised though!,yet Another broken manifesto commitment.
Would this be the manifesto that was taken to court and found to a list of lies?
Remembering that Labour already announced a 45% top tax band before – this is ‘slash and burn’ to hurt the Conservatives.
Yes – noticed how BBC defended it as – acceptable under the circumstances.
Don’t believe a word of Labour Promises – they were stated to get votes, not an actual policy document.
I keep having in my mind the 1997 Conservative election campaign about the Labour Tax Bomb – not only true, but…
They’ve spent our taxes, and raised NI for more along with countless other ‘duties’ at above inflation rates, spent our pensions, now printing money and have already decided to go to the IMF to waste even more billions. This government should be tried for Treason.
Short summary since 97:
Blair then Brown = war then recession
Or another way of putting it:
Blair starts a war then scarpers, Brown borrows billions vastly worsening the recession and is right now preparing to scarper.
Just think what trouble we’d be in if we had a party that hadn’t promised to be seen to be whiter than white, one whose leader hadn’t promised no return to boom and bust.
Remember – if you or I attempt to defraud the taxpayer its a crime, and therefore a matter for the police. If a new labour home secretary tries to fiddle her porn expenses so the taxpayer coughs up, its a “private matter”.
So, is the BBC leading on the £350 billion borrowing over the next two years or on the 50% top rate tax that will yield less than 1% of that?
The 50% tax rate. The headline actually looks quite depressing for a BBC headline on a Labour budget.
Actually there seems to be a shift in BBC policy, the headline is now the 175 billion in deficit. Notice they’re NOT reporting the news that they’ll probably actually be raising 160 billion, and not 175. So still biased reporting there then
buggrit millenium hand and shrimp, stupid typo, meant to say “the news that they’ll probably actually be raising 260 billion” not 160
Check out the pic on the Telegraph website.
Darling looks distraught. Brown looks elated.
The Snot Gobbler is seriously nuts.
Watching Badger-Bollox and McBust smirking and pretending to converse during Cameron’s response was evidence enough of their stunning arrogance. The Testicular One was also smirking. Prepare to have it wiped off, we will party for a week when you finally bite the dust.
Brown tried to engage Darling in frantic conversation but was blanked and then he turned to the hapless Yvonne who looked uncomfortable; Brown looked like a demented rabbit, he is cracking-up.
he could always have a massage it would make him feel so much better
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090422/tuk-gran-98-celebrates-massage-moment-6323e80.html
I am currently working in New delhi. I have a slight cold at the moment but yesterday I had to take a 20 km return trip across the city in a Tuk-tuk. When I arrived at my final destination I had to blow my nose. You should just have seen the black snot and black bogies. Is ther any way I can air freight these to the Snot Gobbler?
It should pass Customs OK if you label it ‘Uncle Ian’s Organic Prime Minister Snacks’.
make sure you send it by snotmail
What is Labour saying to those who work hard and get average or low incomes? “We will tax you”. For years and years. No hopping off to Swizerland for you people.
Whoever you vote for, the bansters always get the interest on government borrowing.
Anyone realized what the solution is yet? (After 300+ yrs and counting). It’s not difficult.
Is it; When one doesn’t think it’s worth being governed any longer?
I suggest that the rise in tax rates will demonstrate the law of diminsihing returns, you bunch of pathetic Hoons.
Sorry, I was assuming for a moment there that they would understand this, but we are of course talking about the fantasy land that is NuLiebour.
How I hate these incompetent, scheming bastards for what they have done…
‘couse it means they’ll sod off, but then they’ve left the door open for the Tories to repeal the changes- all about posturing.. Darling HATED delivering that, you could see it – it was written by Broon-ites…
The final budge of a fag end bankrupt government.Better stock up on cigs and petrol but no fears Guido you’re OK until midnight with the booze stakes AND the bill for Labour incompetence has been deferred until 2011(post-election when the Tories will have to pick up the pieces of course so why would Gordon bother ?)
Incidentally nothing about the effective cut of £3 Billion to public services which has been masked by lower growth target in the spending targets outlined in the infamous “Red Book” -but of course only Tories do cuts don’t they ? and why bother with Manifesto promises on tax anyway ? – Manifestos are for the mugs to believe before they elect you !!!!
The application to the IMF is scheduled no later than September 2009 by the way
Yet more robbery from the NuLiebore Highwaymen.
And then they’ve simply bundled all the fiscal problems they created up, and hand them off to the Conservatives. Good move.
Brown and his extravagantly-eyebrowed finger-puppet have a great deal to answer for.
D
I hate Labour and even I can’t be bother to spout propaganda from my flea infested bedsit any more.
And that goes for Harm_whatsit, Labour Pride, Ambrose and all the other fragments of my nasty little mind.
Kate kicked you out, Dolly?
The Laffer curve is key here. As any fule kno, as you raise tax at the top end, those in the firing line either bugger off or simply avoid tax.
But I wouldn’t expect economists of the skill of Messers Darling and Brown to get that. Hoons.
I take it you were using the word skill with a modicum of sarcasm here?
Anyone who wants to move abroad because of the new tax rate, please go ahead. We won’t miss you.
Yes you fucking will
Although apparently not for your sophisticated approach to public discourse
There are a hell of a lot of people who have done very well out of the economy over the last ten years. Now, thanks to the bankers we are in the shit and we have to pay to get out again.
So pay. And, if you’de rather leave the country, I’ll buy your ticket (so long as you promise not to come back).
“Now, thanks to the bankers we are in the shit ”
Interesting, so instead of penalising the bankers, you penalise everyone who earns above 150k.
You had your chance to penalise the bankers by sacking them and stopping their pensions and payoffs.
Like most other things you engage in, you failed utterly.
CALL AN ELECTION
…you might miss our taxes though.
Who’s gonna pay your benefits now, you cheap piece of socialist detritus?
No we will not miss you, your taxes, your crime, bureauocracy and crap weather.
Will you offer refunds for the tens of thousands who have already left?
Redvers – I leave, that’s 2 places gone at private schools, putting further at risk those businesses, the x2 cleaners, x1 gardener, x1 groom (part time), x1 farrier(part time), x1 au pair. No spending in the pub, local shop, local restaurants, local garden centre, local garage (x5 vehicles) for petrol and servicing (all mostly empty already and just surviving). Less income for my masseur.
Yes Redvers, whatever they may think of me, they like my money. I try to treat all nicely, fairly as I like to be treated myself.
I’m cancelling the charity evening I’m hosting on behalf of our County Ambulance Service. I withdraw the offer to use my garden for the summer Tory party which cancels the caterers, musicians, wine merchants.
Not much perhaps but multiply that a few fold and the local work force hurts very badly.
Selfish.? No. Survival. Survival of the fittest. Life is tough. I hate those banka tossers more than you will ever know. I’ve had my nose rubbed in it for 16 bull mkt years. Revolting, arrogant, useless. They have destroyed the credibility of the Country I am proud of. They have destroyed the credibility of the City after 500 years.
Where are the useless Tory party? Opposition my arse, they couldn’t oppose anything.
You may not care – I do. But I am but a single voice.
Stand up and be counted or pay the price. When those that care find their voice as one I will join you. In the meantime my family comes first.
Presume your olympic pool cleaner works for free can you pass me their number?
The infants olympic size paddling pool just needs attention and you just don’t want to know about the adults pool with the Yacht
My family comes first. Translation – I’m a greedy arse whose first priority is money.
Proud of your country. You’ve a funny way of showing it. Piss off to Dubai or Rio or wherever you want to go.
But I agree with the bit about the banker tossers destroying the country’s credibility.
Maybe you’ve not noticed but this country is the united Kingdom in name only thanks to the Labour Disaster party.
My family comes first. Translation – I’m a greedy arse whose first priority is money.
No he’s just fed up with the socialist scumbags that leech off us
yes we will – that’s the key to the problem you state-educated hoon.
Redvers 397 – where does your family come in the priorities, out of interest? Where do you think hardworking wealthy people spend their money – on other wealthy people, or on local service providers as “can’t afford” did? When I left England, the local pub lost my thirsty spending, the local restaurants my belly, and the local Sussex shops my City money. Why is that loss a good thing in your view? Should I have kept all my money under a mattress and not employed people? Or perhaps do you think the state should have taken it all and spent it where they, not I, saw fit, on their client base?
TT,
Working has only positive externalisations, which is why it’s the last thing any sensible person would tax!
Of course sensibleness and socialism never go together, hence the 100 million death toll for those implementing Marx’s “ideas”.
‘Darling looks distraught. Brown looks elated.
The Snot Gobbler is seriously nuts.’
Yes indeed, Gordon is spurting in his pants with a lunatics glee, later he’ll turn back into a saggy old bag of shit clutching his face, such is the nature of his shot to bits psychology.
Rats all leaving the sinking ship!
Where’s the love of country?
Well below the pocket book.
This is half the reason this country is stuffed.
Sheer unadulterated GREED!
If you want to live in England/Britain – pay your taxes for the privilege.
If yor foreign pay your taxes here as well.
I am sick to death of the rich avoiding taxation and it falling on the middle income payers who cannot afford fancy accountants, overseas tax havens and Swiss banks.
If people like these avoiders and some of the above, paid taxes into this country, the middle people wouldn’t get so walloped and the really poor would be tax free.
In fact when national insurance and council tax is taken into consideration as overall taxation, the rich in this country pay proportional peanuts compared to the middle and lower earners.
Put up your tax or get out to Dubai or where ever. You are just a big a parasite, if you don’t pay fairly, as any unemployed immigrant, with less excuse.
Taxation = theft
How old are you? 10? Most people grow out of the taxation is theft phase long before they are at an age where they read blogs like this. Tax sucks and can be deeply unfair but it isn’t theft.
Theft = taking people’s money or material goods from them against their will.
That’s what tax is..
No Taxation = Somalia
So if you want to live in a land where local warlords, drug barons and the AK47 is law then feel free to advocate no taxation, just dont bother calling for a policeman when rape gangs and thugs come knocking down your door.
I think you can be described as a “hoon”.
Anon 270 – but that is how a large slug of Somalians behave in England. Switzerland, with similar taxation views to Somalia, is noticeably free of violent marauding gangs of lederhosen-sporting alpenhorners.
> Most people grow out of the taxation is theft phase
No, they are indoctrinated out of it. It then takes time to see it for what it really is.
Almost as big as lie as that denial, is the myth that libertarianism is anarchic. That follows only from covertly assuming a pseudo-scientific evo-twaddle – the sociological version of Darwinian evolution, red in tooth and claw (not that Darwinism is any better than a myth either). I suggest it’s your fear of the picture presented by evo-twaddle that conditions your thinking (and abusiveness). You really ought to have more confidence in the civilising influence of education (which distinguished the UK from Somalia) and in peoples’ ability to organize themselves into a harmonious order.
“Love of country??” Who the feck are you trying to kid???
Sheer unadulterated greed from the top down you fucking hoon.
Starting with the money grabbing two faced parasites in the HoC.
And what are you on about “proportional peanuts”??
Go and take your lefty uneducated dyslexic bollocks to Toenails’ blog, he’ll welcome you with open arms.
Alright??
Work for your living, pay the taxes and see the benefit to you and yours of that donation to the State. No problem.
However, paying ever increasing amounts to subsidise someone else’s social engineering wet dream, removing the incentive for some other bugger to get off their arse and work whilst simultaneously seeing the fabric of the country crumble around you – no thanks.
Couldn’t have put it better. I’m happy to pay my taxes under normal circumstances but not when they are just completely wasted on middle management inside government bureaucracy and second homes for Jaqcui Smith (don’t forget to throw in a few free bathplugs). Then it starts to get a bit difficult to stomach.
The average Joe in this country is getting completely fucked by the wealthy. Hard to feel sorry for them on their new 50% tax rate considering the shafting everyone else is getting. This government needs to fuck off and the wealthy need to stop whining about being taxed more heavily than they like. Some of us can hardly afford to live. I’d happily swap a 50% tax rate for a 150k salary. And no – you’re not some genius who is worth it. If you’re reading this blog at 4:30 in the afternoon then you’re no more hard working and driven than the rest of us, no matter what your mother tells you.
Actually – we do all pay up. We pay through the nose for sub-standard politicians, public services and transport. We pay through the nose to keep MP’s living the high life. No wonder some of us are fed up to the back teeth with it all.
We are not well off by any stretch. I was made redundant back in January and if we don’t sell our house soon, we may be forced into it. So we jump before we are pushed – what makes me any different from anyone else? I’m just trying to hang on to what I’ve worked hard for before the government take that away from me as well.
If I can’t get a job – which is not for the want of trying – we may as well use what money we have left to try and make a life somewhere else.
So you see it’s not just the high earners who are sick of this shit – it’s all of us!
Goodbye
Missing you already
You will , Redvers, you will.
You can share your tuppence around all your commy bastard mates, but I’d rather have most of us who work hard earning a decent wage than all of us earning fuck all.
Socialism is dead. If you’d have finished school, you might have got to that bit in your history lessons. It’s failed, it doesn’t work.
It is the politics of the bone idle, the thick, the lazy, the envious, the criminal.
Which are you? Or are you a champagne socialist?
There are a lot of angry little men posting on this site. And they were angry little men before the budget.
If I disagree with you, and slag off people who want to run abroad because of a tax rise, doesn’t make me a commie socialist….just not an angry little man.
F off and get a job and stop scrounging.
Redvers, angry? Yes, you’re damned right. I pay my way, I’m honest unlike so many other shits out there. I work damned hard. Why should over 60% of my income be taken (plus community tax)?
To pay for second rate service from the public sector?
Get real.
Little man? Maybe in your eyes but I am on of many and we are big collectively.
Shellingout
Ignore the twat Redvers as there are many in your position and it just cannot go on and if Labour do, god forbid, get another five yearsthis this will be but a prelude to the true horror story about to befall us and all those that put them back in power.
It cannot go on. Hope all turns out well for you anyway
(Red — thats known as compassion you total Hoon)
Redvers,
Those who do leave will be just those for whom the politics of the 50p tax is just the straw that broke the camels back. That 50p tax rise is a 25% tax rise on my family. It will raise maybe 5bn quid but the deficit this year is being estimated as 175bn by Darling/Brown and more like 260bn by the city.
5bn ain’t going to make a bat-squeak of difference to 175bn or 260bn except to play to the prejudices of the Labour core vote. So my cash is being used not to make any material difference but to reinforce the prejudices so carefully nourished by John Prescott and his ilk.
There’s only so much outright hostility and mean-spiritedness folk can take before they pull the pin.
“the privilege”
exactly what privilege is there living in this country?
You’re penalised for working hard and being rewarded, while a client state of indigenous scroungers sit around all day watching Jeremy Kyle and being paid out of your pocket.
The national culture is completely eroded by a wave of immigrants shipped in to do the work that the lazy hoons mentioned above don’t have to.
The only thing I’m looking forward to is seeing the look on all the Labour MPs faces as they face their Portillo moments.
Redvers
It’s not just the tax rises – it’s everything. We’ve worked hard and paid our dues and after years of service to my employer, I was made redundant through no fault of my own. My spouse works but doesn’t earn enough to keep us both and pay council tax, elec, gas, etc.
If you think this country can survive without people who want to do an honest days work for an honest days pay, you are very sadly misguided.
What you will be left with is people who pay nothing towards the system but will bleed it dry. Good economics, that.
Try this for size.
I’m a PhD grad – when I finished my PhD with 2 others, my department (robotics etc) was closed at the university, mergered with Maths. (It was best in the university, 3rd best in the country). Lack of money – something to do with this government being unable to pay £11 – £13bn a year to maintain the universities, and when university under-grad fees appeared, the universities were capped in fees charged, with there still being a £11 – £13bn national short-fall. (It’s deliberate).
There’s no jobs or research in my area of expertise here in the UK. Due to my back condition (I need surgery … but it’s extremely risky – I like walking!!) I’m currently on Incapacity Benefit.
However, I could do research, but there’s no funds for independent researchers, the jobs aren’t being created or supported. (The govt’s idea of protected research sectors are cars and tesco’s!!).
60 jobs were created in Pennsylvania before Obama stated he’s going to assist research.
The importance of my research area? Well, it creates new ways of interfacing with robots, which puts more advanced products onto the shelves, creating more jobs, and creating more wealth. So obviously not the people that this government will ever want to support.
Hello Derek!
Taxation is GREED.
No, it is SLAVERY
Ps: I am an utter gimp, please ignore me, the nurse will be round in a minute.
Hopefully she is a swiss nurse (no offence to that country)
For my part, I hope she’s Somalian.
And wipes his arse with a broken bottle dipped in salt
As Nick Robinson says: most of the revenue will come from everyone else; via fuel / beer duties.
This is a political budget not an economic one, Brown more interested in headlines than what’s right economically.
The first person to assassinate Brown for the good of country will win a £100 from me.
What will the second person to assassinate him get?
No bananas
I’ll give a hundred too.
Shall we start a collection?
Just for a laugh, it would be hilarious to see how much money could be ‘pledged’ to hire an assassin.
So, we’ve got 200 quid already – by tonight that will be worth £62.50, by next year: around 88 pence.
(Note to the security services: this is a joke)
Not a very funny one
“Not a very funny one”
No indeed. For very funny ones we’ll seek out McBride and Draper who like making stories about dead children.
Very classy.
What do you expect from a pair of commy hoons who couldn’t get a real job if they tried?
Even by massaging their CVs.
88p will buy you the Porno Queen, Jacqui S, a plug.
Sarah – your surname isn’t Brown by any chance ?
If you set up a charity you will be able to claim back the tax we paid on our donations.
Fucking delicious.
This was a budget for Zurich.
The end of Labours love affair with celebrity as they TAX all Celeb’s into submission, the end for aspiring youths clamouring to get into debt to go to university. The professions and Media industry will move to a friendlier tax regime, so be prepared for film stars, rock stars moving to America and Switzerland, and the end of the City of London as the financial centre of Europe as the bankers move on mass to Zurich.
Brown and his gang of merry men could not have destroyed the UK any other way. Morons
No wonder they tried to attack Tax havens. Idiots
In 11 years Labour have done nothing but errode the quality our lives for political gain. As of today they have trashed the house so the next tenants are tarred with their stinking brush. It won’t work.
I am now sick of being analytical and eloquent about their failings and I look forward to watching the slow motion crushing of these shit grinders, over a now more expensive pint.
Hmm ….. ‘political gain’. I guess Labour reckon that means climbing to the top of a festering dungheap. All the evidence points that way.
Dublin and Dubai – you must be joking. Ireland has just increased taxes on incomes above 75k euros and even more for those earning above 175k euros. And, from what I read, Dubai is also bust.
Dubai is GOOD, and I mean good.
don’t believe what you read in the MSM
Yes, leave good old Britain to the scum that is Labour’s benefit junky poor, let all the talent go, the doctors, the engineers the inventors. Then victory will be in the hands of the mediocre bags of excrement, good old Laurel and Hardy Darling and Brown and their dead ideology. Hooray!
It’s turning into Pascal Sauvage from Johnny English!
A nation of lazy scum who think the world owes them a living.
They’re in for a wake-up call.
Phil Hammond, who claims to be a Tory of some sort, says that removing the 50 per cent band won’t be a priority in the event that anyone sees fit to put Gideon Osborne in charge of the Exchequer.
Bit of an all-party Hoonfest, really.
Labour have done this to plant a mine for the Tories / Lib Dems etc to walk over. This is nothing about whats good for you / me /the UK its all about their next sound bite.
LOOK!! the Tories will keep the tax and force people abroad or LOOK they repealed the tax and did not follow our lead and they therefore supporting millionaires . billionaires zil.. what the hell if you haven’t figured it out by now there really is no hope FFS
And by the way Guido, I thought Martin Bright was a straightforward kind of cove. So why can’t we just lose the conspiracy theory?
Draper, just go away.
Join the party
Send Gordon the shirt off your back, save him ripping it off
http://bastardoldholborn.blogspot.com/2009/04/send-gordon-your-shirt-campaign.html
Now that is a great idea! At the same time if enough of us send one it may help the Royal Mail pension deficit – so we would be saving having to fork out for it in taxes in the near future.
Only one per person?
Send Gordon Your Shit?
Absolutely totally brilliant!!
Would some kind person, prise dollys’ lice infested shirt off his back, and send it to Gordo?
Rather than follow the budget speech, I listened to my whoopee cushion.
I think I got the better deal.
(I’m going to invest now in one of those rubber-ring comfort seating thingies (red, of course – and with a big hole in the middle; I understand they are inflatable too, which will dountless be handy.) It will be my souvenir of this glorious decade in Nirvana.
I wonder if I can get some suitable cartoon portraits added to enhance my future sedentary experiences?
Presumably the tax rate will apply for the one month between the start of the tax year and the General Election. Hopefully the opposition are (just) smart enough to not fall into the bear trap of saying they will “cut taxes for their millionaire friends” but will immediately repeal this nonsense and emphasise that such transparent class warfare will raise little or no money and is a distraction from the real problem which is a rapid expansion of the state

I’m not the only one…q music etc
What made me laugh is the £2,000 that they will put towards a new car if you PX one that is over 10 years old…Just buy a banger for £200 before you buy your new car and hand it over to the dealer and get £1800 off the price thanks to the gov’t!!
All my old bangers have just gone up in price to £1000! We’ll split the difference eh?
hadnt thought of that one , nice one
Still not over your PBT, I understand.
see previous threads
this government are dumb
Actually I just thought of something. When was the last time you went in a car showroom and DIDN’T see an offer of 1000 or 2000 guaranteed part exchange for your old car? The only difference here is that the govt are effectively paying the car manufacturers to scrap the cars instead of selling them as second hand.
New car dealer says no discounts available on new models from the manufacturer, who’s just increased prices by £2,000 across the range.
you won’t be able to get a car for less than that now.
But what if hypothetically the vehicle HAD to be registered with the DVLA in your name effective 22 April 2009 AND the new vehicle has to be registered in the same name as the holder of the “scrapped” vehicle and the scheme could incorporated a mandatory 6 months or even longer registration period(effectively the car would be held under an agreement similar to HP for that period of time)before it can be onsold or got rif of ?
How did you get that information!!!
This is classified information only accessible on the 5.21 stopping service to etc etc
Expect a raid but don’t worry we won’t find any evidence and you will of course all be released without charge but it looks good on the Beeb 6pm news and we just need to bury some bad news at the same time.
When France did this exercise as a sweetener for introducing a MoT test, the small print said the vehicle had to be 6 years old and registered to the owner for minimum of 6 months.
They also dumped road tax as it cost more to administer, than tax collected.
Does the £5000 for electric cars apply to Scalectric. Think of the size of the layout.
If I owned a lease car company I’d be reaching for the AutoTrader and start flicking through the ‘bargain car section’
The banger doews have to be roadworthy and have full MOT and Tax
??????
Plenty here
come and have a look and if you see somefink you like ave a quick chat in the old portacabin
NR’s blog “Stealth tax rises are out. Overt tax hikes on the rich are in.”
Sounds all nice and cosy, except he’s then had to change his tack almost immediately when pointed out that fuel duty alone will raise more than the 50% tax band. That has to be the quickest turnaround from a pro Labour stance to an anti Labour stance I’ve ever seen. He must still be dizzy from spinning that one
Fuel duty is one of the most regressive and punishing ways of gathering tax imaginable.
Every rise in energy costs cause more real poverty for those least able to afford it ie: typical ZanuLabour core voters.
When fuel rises the cost of everything using transportation rises, food, services, consumer products, everything.
ZanuLabour hate the poor, the elderly and want to make their lives a misery.
What cruel, heartless bastards.
I was vacillating about moving to Guangzhou for business. Not anymore.
Gone.
Stick to the fish – the chicken and pork woofs and meeows
great sports bar there in the ‘ship’ and the Irish Bar does great home from home pies with chinese girls on tap
well so a friend of a friend told me.
Labour don’t care whether it “works” or not, they just want to smack the wealthy.
The socialists always start with the rich and with the envious its always popular. It soon becomes tax everyone to death to keep the elite in power, for the envious crowd, by then its too late to say no.
Would any commie / socialist / fascist, care to tell anyone where their particular version of collectivism was most successful?
North Korea!
Look how Kim Jong Il lives.
Out of 180 British Consultant Oilfield/Mining Engineers that I know via my business who were resident in the UK 10 years ago, now only 62 are still here.
The rest have moved to Portugal, Spain, France, Thailand, Malta & Cyprus and no longer pay UK tax. All of the guys were earning between £84k and£200k per year…
yup, my uncle works in the oil industry. Earns a lot, all tax free, and lives in Qatar. Comes back once a year for Xmas, hates Britain and says he’ll never come back regardless of who’s in power.
Ha!
You had me convinced until I reached the word “France”.
The world leader in taxation and red tape.
James C,
France has a 180 day rule on tax so if you work abroad (say) tax-free in Dubai, Oman, Qatar, wherever and are on a four weeks on four weeks off rotation then you pay no tax. Same in Ireland and most other European countries.
The UK, almost uniquely in Europe has a 90 day full tax limit.
That’s true. The 28/28 rotation is quite popular in the oil industry and I found most of thw Brits on this deal tend to live in Spain, France or some old reprobates in Thailand all of which have the 180 day rule. If you lived in UK they’d tax you. So their money is remitted elsewhere.
I thought it quite ironic tonight listening to traffic reports of the roads heading West out of London being jammed – the roads to Heathrow.
I am one of those Oil Field workers, not I hasten ta add one of Pugsys’ engineers, and concur, of the Brits working with me, I think I may be the only one even attempting to pay tax. Most live abroad, within Europe, a couple have set themselves up as limited companies, get the money paid into the company accounts and pay a damn site less tax, I think 18% is a number bandied about. Now I am not earning anything like the new threshold, but have considered moving abroad, the kids are about all that holds me back, they do not want to move.
best bit was pMqs watch darlings face as gordon passes question to darling to answer on yoof unemployment !!
budget was short and despite the verbal flow , vague missing the useual precision actaual penny or pound increases .
camerons response was excellent “borrowed more money that in all the years combined since the BOE was formed ”
grinning gordon was at times face of the deluded , i mean whats funny about 675 bn debt just to stuff the opposition !!!
i can recall gordons early budget apeeches in which he boasted he had reduced national debt to 32% of GDP (let alone when we finished paying america off for ww2) , now we find it will be 79% of GDP and he calls this growth , perhaps it is but it certainly isnt wealth .
join Old Holborn and send the gordon the shirt of your back , although hes pretty upsett as his sponsors have more tax to pay from 6 pm tonight .
however caseasr wife did his useual visit to real people this afternoon , the little ones who either the local councils screw on taxes or the government does , and its not gone down well at all , these people dont have extra to save and hes taxing petrol booze and cigs , so working person pays for them , benefits claimensts lose value .
could be that his attack on tories was wrong as gordon may now be creating a new benefit client state , doesnt look good for student and young workers as they tend to drink more .
bong shop was doing well though , seems ts cheaper than booze .
It should be known that this labour government did pay off the last payment but only because they happened to be the government at the time and as a result this was achieved because of fiscal policy prior to 1997 and not as we all know now after.
Abu Dhabi is a good place to go if you want to move your business. Fantastic standard of living, lots of sun, no income tax, no national insurance, and no corporation tax (for most companies).
And they are looking for businesses to move there – particularly technology and renewables _ Masdar City being built specifically for these.
Just don’t try taking any paracetamol with you.
Paracetamol is okay, you can buy it off the shelf. Don’t bring codeine or anything ‘recreational’ though, you really won’t like prison over here.
Good luck. I’d rather stick to a country that has a few hundred years of relatively stable history thanks. Who’s to say the Emir of the UAE wont wake up one morning and just decide he owns the whole lot and there’s nothing you can do about it. The UK is screwed beyond belief but when things get bad the rule of law should *mostly* stick – as long as we get rid of the current trash we call govt at the next election. I wouldn’t want to be in one of those middle eastern countries when things go bad, as they’re about to.
work there a lot
The sultan is more democratic than this bunch of hoons ever could be in their wildest dreams
Blears — Sultan
Tough choice
Obviously you’ve never travelled much.
I wonder how long this budget thingy will help obscure from public view what an unpleasant lying henchman of Gordon I really am? Any answers to this you silly people (oops, given meself away a bit there readers).
I suppose if it all goes tits up for me, Gordon will deny knowing anything. Odd, because he either knows nothing when anything goes wrong (which is often luvs eh?) or he is a bigger liar than I am. Ooh, I’m letting my mouth run away with me darlings. Silly old blinky!
Dearest Edward,
RE- MP’S TROUGHING ALLOWANCES
Please be advised that for now we have placed you on the back burner due to increased demand of verbal abuse of the Labour party in general and McDoom in particular.
You should also note that the term ‘burner’ as used in the paragraph above refers mainly to something if left on its own without stirring burns all by itself. Please be assured this also goes for that well known ‘easy on your budget quick meal’
‘Yevette stroganoff’
Kind regards

Oh no…
Will the new marginal rate of tax of 50% for those UK tax residents earning more than £150K (not the non-doms of course) contribute to a brain drain as alleged by City wizards?
Yes it might at the margin – to use a pun.
But on the other hand, if the tax had been in effect a few years ago and had lead to the threatened brain drain, the RBS, Northern Rock, Lloyds TSB etc. accidents could well have been some other jurisdiction’s problems. That way UK citizens might have avoided a lot of the pain that is to come from the dreadful state of the public finances revealed in today’s budget.
brain drain started in 97′
Labour = Brain drain (pardon the pun)
Nope, This coming depression was caused by regulation, not bankers. The reason was that Gordon got a supercharged amount of tax from credit creation, even though it was used to hide the falls in living standards caused by excessive taxation and the UKs moral hazard “welfare” state.
See Basel2 and the elimination of reserves (i.e. infinite credit).
Merv’ King was dropping loads of hints about “capital adequacy” being too low for a reason.
Lord Myners just off the blower after bollocking the Guvnor as a waste of space for not warning him about the 50% curse of Brown and that he ( Myners) is off to the sunny US to take over Freddie Mac. Some burger franchise the Guvnor says. Guvnor is off checking the expiry date of his passport as he says he may have to take early retirement and get a job in a US knocking shop called Fannie May , I think.
Don’t where I will SpAd if Balls does a runner. It’s a Right Hoon of a problem
Funny, I’ve never seen Guido complain about the disproportionate amount of tax taken from people on low incomes. Now that Labour have taxed the poor until the pips squeak, they are targeting the wealthy.
Ideal Background for a Chancellor of Russia
Alistair Darling was born in London[1] the son of a civil engineer, Thomas, and his wife, Anna. He is the great-nephew of Sir William Darling who was Conservative MP for Edinburgh South (1945–1957). He was educated in Kirkcaldy, and the private Loretto School, Musselburgh, East Lothian, then attended the University of Aberdeen where he was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). He became the head of Aberdeen University Students Union. Before joining the Labour Party at the age of 23 in 1977, Darling was a supporter of the International Marxist Group, the British section of the Trotskyist Fourth International.[2][3][4] He became a solicitor in 1978, then changed course for the Scots bar and was admitted as an advocate in 1984. He was elected as a councillor to the Lothian Regional Council in 1982 where he supported large rates rises in defiance of Margaret Thatcher’s rate-capping laws and even threatened not to set a rate at all.[2] He served on the council until he was elected to Parliament. He was also a board member for the Lothian and Borders Police and became a governor of Napier College in 1985 for two years.
No sign of a proper job, then.
probably a KGB plant….and the bugger has succeeded
tomato plant , well ok not quite but its red at least
Badger faced sock puppet alright, but who’s got his had up his jacksy this time?
Now Labour owns the banks they don’t want the bankers ! Wonder how the darlings at the BBC and Guardian will take to losing tax allowances ?
What a laughing stock this country must appear to be to outsiders,… incompetent, corrupt, snouts in the trough and lacking any intellect or forward thinking. Knee jerk reactions, laws and policy all for a daily headline,… stories regurgitated faster that Prescott’s dinner!!
Fleet Street can write the obituary for New Labour(1994-2009)tomorrow.
Didn’t think it would be renounced so publicly and spectacularly.I shan’t miss it.
……..or they could decide to contribute to the society that has given them so much.
given them what exactly?
C. Diff?
They have contributed! That’s what work is you total mong…
They’re just pissing off because the state robs them.
Sorry, but what exactly is the problem with rich people paying more tax?
This is not affecting ordinary people. It’s affecting people who earn more than £150 000 a year. That means, fat-cat executives and overpaid celebrities. And they can afford it.
What we should really do is insist that if these people move abroad, they can’t take any of our money with them; and if that doesn’t work, then tell them that they can’t do business with us anymore. We do not need their sort.
I used to work with a fellow whoose initials were AJS…..he was very bright…………………………died last year
I would agree with your views on so called fat-cat executives and celebrities, but what about the person who runs a successful business employing a significant number of people and contributing to our balance of payments (currently shot to pieces)? Which category would you place him/her in? Frighten them off and you have shot yourself comprehenively in both feet.
they can also avoid the accountants to avoid it
Good idea. Let’s ask all the business entrepreneurs and company executives to leave the country.
We can then let communist technocrats from Nu Liebore to move in an run these businesses instead and completely fuck the country up.
The politics of envy will get the country nowhere. Dumping El Gordo and the rest of his cronies will.
No celebs and bankers have fancy tax lawyers so they hardly pay any tax.
It means:
Scientists
Consultant Surgeons
Doctors
Professors
Engineers
You may change you tune when you find you cannot get a consultant to treat your illness.
Engineers? Don’t make me laugh. I have never met an engineer who earns enough to be affected by this decision.
Anyway, the fat cats are welcome to leave the country — as long as they are not allowed back in.
AJS
Who’s gonna pay for your benefits once the fat cats leave?
Think before you start typing you dimwit.
AJS
actually engineers do make that much – but only outside the UK….
Professors and Scientists? I wish. We were proletarianised years ago by the Marxist idiots who run the universities.
AJS,
I am an engineer who earns that much you thick dick.
Most engineers don’t earn that much and those that do will be gratified to know that they will be only taxed at 50% on the amount over the 150K. But as someone pointed out, for an engineer to get that kind of dosh he would have to work overseas and so would probably be avoiding tax anyway.
Mind you, a lot of leftie BBC controllers will be more than a little miffed tonight. Shame Armani suits ain’t tax deductible.
“We do not need their sort.”
What an utterly idiotic statement, how do people get jobs that pay their mortgages and give them a decent standard of living? They get employed by the productive non parasite sector by “fat cats” who make money, profits pay for jobs, the more profit you make the more people you can employ.
I employ 12 people one of whom earns £50K the others less so but for what they do its pretty good and they enjoy what they do.
I dont pay myself £150K PA but if I could, why should I not be able to do so without the state looting my earnings to pay for what, Jaqui smiffs bath plug or her husbands porno?
If you are so concerned about the poor, why are you not denouncing the increase in fuel which will cause real hardship for the poor and elderly and drive up the cost of everything people on fixed or low incomes have to buy.
Oh I forgot, you socialists can only look one way, you are greedy, envious and jealous in equal measure because you cant have or are not prepared to work hard enough to have what the horrid “fat cats” have.
You, like your collectivist fascist ZanuLab masters are utterly contemptable.
Yep, all pay is used to EMPLOY people.
When people direct their own money then more people are employed. When government punishes working then less work is done, and thus less employment happens.
Work has no negative externalities, it should be taxed at zero.
What you are suggesting is called theft and I think this is still illegal in the UK. Fortunately I got all my money out of the country before the NewLiebour 30% devaluation of Sterling.
You really dont have a clue do you? Typical class ridden ignorance. Have a look around at how many in management in not just industry, not just commerce, but also in the public sector, ie council leaders, NHS management, Surgeons, GP’s, dentists, senior civil servants and military officers are earning £150K plus.
You think they are all red-brace wearing Mayfair mafia hedgies or Fred Goodwins??
Fucking idiot.
£150KPA is NOT rich. Its reasonably comfortable, but it sure as hell aint rich…. Premiership footballers, Grand Prix drivers, Simon Cowell… THATS rich.
Eitherway, it doesnt matter. Any accountant worth his salt would soon find a way of legally avoiding falling into that bracket. Its a completely pointless bone thrown to the backbenchers on the left.
“What we should really do is insist that if these people move abroad, they can’t take any of our money with them;”
X’cuse me arsehole…why is it ‘our money’ and not ‘their money’? Didn’t they earn it?..was it a gift from you the Taxpayer?
What a stupid, juvenile prick you are.
Well said.
The politics of envy – perpetuated by thick, uneducated tossers who couldn’t be arsed to get a decent education and now regret it.
Tough fucking luck, go and sleep on the streets.
Go Yoda, Go Yoda!!!
MARXIST moran.
1) High tax rates do not mean higher revenues for the exchequer (see 1970′s for example and studies (IFS) WHICH SHOW YOU GET LESS
2) Where does it go ? To pay down debt? No. More wasteful spending. (all that cash spent on education and we still have a large proportion of illiterates NEETS etc.
3) If so why do it? Socialist spite and to wind up the Tories. Desperate
4) We dont need their sort? Not very bright are we? Impose this sort of measure and you might as well put a big sign sayin autarky ahead Fuck off outside world.
There are some that work our total nuts off through hundreds and I mean hundreds of exams, late nights hours and hours to achieve what we want to do. Like many I gave up many many normal things to actually achieve this.
From Labour I got zero payments, zilch, nada to help with the costs I never even asked but I worked anywhere possible and paid for ALL of it myself. You will never believe the difficulties, stress and nightmares involved and even at times what I was forced to eat to achive this dream.
Now having got my dream I am at payback time for me and my family but the taxes imposed on me it would appear Labour treat me like a rich person and say I know nothing about those that don’t have anything.
UTTER BASTARDS I know more about real poverty than any of the entire front bench put together but I got off my butt and did something about it
I therefore have only two words for brown and his scumbag evil party
FUCK OFF
Most Hospital Consultants earn in excess of £150,000 a year too. I look forward to festering to death from some curable condition because there is no-one to treat me. Bring it on!
Does any one have a time machine?
Can I borrow?
Just want to zip back and sell these Labour mutts parent’s some fucking condoms!
Think of it as a retro active abortion (and a public service) of those we already know will turn out to be total bleeding HOONS!
that would be realy great , you could go back to 1997 , as tony got in , go to william hills and place a 2k bet that in 2010 borrowings will be 79% of GDP and have multiplyer that six banks are in state ownership (ensure your paid in gold though )
Glad to see the PBT has finally worn off and your back with us.
EBAY
They have most things and if not Amazon may have a book that gives build instructions
The ordinary bloke earns about £10 a hour. A working lifetime is about 100,000 hours. Every time Brown spends a million he has enslaved one man for one lifetime, wholly and completely.
£600bn extra public debt equals enslaving 60,000 working men for all their lives. Let’s suppose they have families. Crikey! The fat bastard’s just enslaved NORWICH!
Sorry, that should be 600,000 working men. Norwich, you’re no use. You’re too damn small. He’s actually enslaved Manchester AND Birmingham!
I resent that. Norwich is very useful. We give away three points every week to needy causes.
Make sure the Tories don’t win the next election (they’re tossers anyway) Let the country go down the pan with Brown at the helm.
Frankly anyone left behind (I include myself) deserves what’s coming one way or another. Let’s get it over with – the sooner the better.
50% has got fuckall to do with collecting extra revenue.
1 A number of high earners will either not arrive or leave for MEast/HK.
2 Those that remain will either cut down on work or fiddle.
Net result a slight increase in revenue at the price of UK’s long term competitiveness.
Politics of envy. Back to the 70′s
I think it would be better to replace the whole system of tax bands (which was originally designed in the days before computers and before decimal currency, to approximate a quadratic regression while making it feasible to calculate everyone’s taxes without the aid of a computer) with a quadratic regression. That way, there would be no way to exploit a loophole by placing yourself in a lower band: every amount would effectively be within its own, one penny wide band.
Calculate taxbands using a quadratic regression eh?
And our tax system can’t accurately calculate tax-credits.
You are Gordon Brown and I claim my five quid.
Me thinks AJS is Master Baiter. No?
Tax loopholes and schemes identified which could provide £1bn of extra revenue over the next three years if closed
Bugger – IR35 Pt 2 I fear.
The breakdown is starting to look ropey already. 2k for the car trade-in, you have to show you have own the car for 12 months and the Industry are expected to pay half of the subsidy.
If the govt go after the large organisations (ie FTSE 250′s) who pay minimal tax, rather than shitting over small businesses, then the deficit will be reduced significantly.
Unfortunately I don’t have a shit-hot tax and legal department to help me out…
Great for all the 2nd hand car dealers…..2grand for all the cars they have owned ( failed to sell) for the last 12 months
Why should the taxpayer fund the car scrappage scheme? With 80% of cars imported we are just subsidising foreign jobs.
Germany will be very happy!
So basically if your La Toynbee in the Grungidad, TAX is coming your way? Dont believe a word of it, regulation like this usually so slack and political their bezza mates wont get any of that, Guardian media Group will lose shed loads in about a year when Govt jobs stop being advertised there, then whats the point of a tax haven if your making no profit. Geddit?
I think that you have it wrong
The Chancellor just subsidised the employment of accountants by a further 10p/pound
and I know that the type of money they’re talking about could get you a much better one
So maybe Darling has delivered a fiscal stimulus, but I tend to find that accountants don’t actually make anything
I thought accountants made money?
only for other people and then this government applies tax
Read a piece by Paul Krugman yesterday in which he said Ireland is in the worst state of any developed, Western economy. Not sure they are who you should be citing as a model.
As Sir Winston Churchill put it;
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
Mr Wilson some years ago when I left merry England made this so true and again so it seems does Mr. Brown.
Boulton giving mandy a bit of a kicking on sky
its great watching mandy squirm
Mandy is getting torn to pieces by Adam Boulton on Sky now
I’m not surprised. There isn’t a Wendy’s for at least 3000 miles.
in America?
well if the dumb fucks move to Dublin then they get what they deserve. They’ve just increased taxes (for the first time in ages) and every economist this side of sanity thinks they’ll go up… and up… and up. After all, the Celtic Tiger is a bit poorly at the moment isnt it?
And why bother when in a year and a half the Tories will be in and no doubt reduce that tax band? Not worth the hassle if you ask me.
Economics really isnt your bag is it? Stick to the dick jokes.
The tories wont repeal the 50% rate the country needs the dosh . if you are on150,000 you are doing ok and can take a hit , you can still claim child benefit and an accountant to fiddle your tax . and i cant see East Cheam going labour
you can still claim child benefit
no you cant
If the country needs the dosh then let the people who earned it spend it in the country.
The government is the worst utiliser of money.
What a massive pile of reactive, predictable bollocks from you lot.
Tax fucking schmax – I’d wager it won’t even effect most you rather, you’re trying to second guess outrage that’s typical of aspirational bores.
Another option could have been to take 40% up and then you would’ve been suicidal.
That’s for next year’s budget.
Wake up you stupid socialist hoon. The world does not owe you a living allowance.
If you want one, go out and get an education and a decent job.
You know, what you should have done when you were at school, but were too cool to do any work.
Did you now that ALL of the direct taxation from Income is spent on Benefits and it still doesnt meet the need? What a reflection of the way we work, the workshy and the feckless do feck all, and get more than the workers paying tax. Thats the result of 12 years of social engineering. Work harder boys theres more load on your back to come!
aspirational bores? the ones who pay the tax you mean? Which of the various unproductive burdens we have to carry are you? Unemployable? Local Council (equality division) ?
Even if we won’t be hit in the pocket we can see that high taxes on the rich won’t produce any more income for the state but is simply an example of tiresome socialist spite. The money will not be used to pay down debt but more wasteful delusional fantasy island schemes.
How boring to have aspirations.
It is much more interesting to sit on one’s fat arse all day watching Jeremy Kyle while the industrious, intelligent and decent people pay for one’s existence, is it not?
High-ish earners can’t leave the country, cause you won’t be able to sell your house!
Your missus won’t want to take the kids out of school, cause the British education system is brill.
signed, Gordon
ps I’m saving up for laser eye surgery so I see the fucking mess I’ve caused!
You certainly can’t see the half of it now
Let the house and keep the kids in boarding school. They can come out for the hols.
Thousands do it and soon there’ll be more.
Guidiot/PeeStains is in a bad mood because he hasn’t had his Fax from Conservatve HQ about the MP’s allowances proposal so he doesn’t know what to post about it.
Also earlier someone put up the following comment.
IMF estimates for gross government debt as percentage of GDP in 2010
UK – 73%
US – 98%
Japan – 227%
Italy – 121%
Germany – 87%
France – 80%
Canada – 77%
Wakey, wakey
Fancy giving us a source URL? If not, this is just bullshit.
Thought not. Bullshitter…
It’s IMF but on Iain Dale’s site under
‘It’s Public Borrowing Stupid’
Dale gives a hat tip to ‘Burning Our Money’, assumed to be a blog.
Wakey, wakey dimwits
Ah yes next to the highest fiscal stabilisation costs as a % of GDP apart from Ireland.
Great work.
You’re asking for the source for IMF estimates?
You’re really quite special you know.
I don’t want to make it too easy for you but the phrase “IMF estimates” contains a subtle hint.
that’s Wat’s brilliant blog http://burningourmoney.blogspot.com/
And he wouldn’t lke the figures being misquoted like that
Posted this already MB…..repetition= lowest form of originality
These numbers are a complet embarressment to NuLabor. Even more so than young Dami McBride. Thanks for drawing attention to them.
You can go back to the bathroom now, son.
Sources please….
Wanking scum bag.
Wakey, Wakey – that’s my line.
Your tractor stats are all lies, do you not get it yet, how many billions are not on the official figures? Heres some clues: IMF, PFI, Public Sector Pensions, Total Bank bailout costs, to name just a few.
Stupid hoon.
Your real name is Vickie Pollard isn’t it?
Those figures are from the IMF, ok?
Wakey, wakey and clean the bogs
“Those figures are from the IMF, ok?”
And you are too stupid to have read them, may I suggest spec savers?
Try scrolling down the page and read the complete article, to discover the real debt level you lazy arsed prick, not just the first set of figures you come to.
BTW, the IMF figures of 180% ( in the article ) are even then NOT the true figures, McSnot seriously dare not let the truth out and it appears the gullible, like you really do believe the glorious leader.
Heres some more on the IMF statement, from the very same article at Burning Our Money,
“Our terminal floundering “government” has shown it’s still capable of one thing – attempting to suppress the truth.
They’ve managed to bludgeon the IMF into the extraordinary act of expunging an embarrassing forecast from a paper already published. The IMF has removed their forecast of the UK’s bank bailout costs from their weighty Global Financial Stability Report issued yesterday.
As we said yesterday, the IMF’s forecast is truly shocking. Their economists reckon that UK taxpayers face a bank bailout bill of 13.4% of GDP, or around £200bn. That’s higher than any other G7 economy, and only a smidge behind Ireland (see table above).
Of course, in the real world, the Stallion of Truth has already bolted – too many people like Tyler have already downloaded a copy. And while the IMF’s top management have had their arms twisted, we now know what the IMF’s economists actually think (remembering that the IMF has a long history of only publishing sanitised versions of its forecasts, pre-approved by key member governments, such as ours).
We must confess we haven’t read the entire 240 page IMF report, but a quick perusal reveals other awkward comments on Brown’s economic stewardship.
For example, they highlight how he presided over the biggest bank credit bubble in the history of modern crashes.”
Good reading huh?
All GDP is not equal. Japan has a huge trade surplus and a high savings rate, which is why their government has (thus-far) found it easy to finance these deficits. Ditto Germany – though I’m not sure about there savings rate (can’t really be worse than Britain and America though). Canada usually runs a trade surplus, and is unique amongst developed nations in that it’s a net exporters of energy. They also have tons of other marketable commodities – which bodes well considering we are in the middle of a secular bull market for commodities.
You can’t keep borrowing and spending more than you produce in perpetuity. The efforts of McBroon and the Community Organiser-In-Chief to do this will destroy the pound and the dollar and wreck our economies.
It was Guido himself in reply to (Hands up) an original post of mine where I mentioned the borowing of 74% of GDP. The data is fair enough but there are circumstances that make these various economies totally screwed or if not having a firm base for recovery hence the ability to climb away from the problem.
My original point only was that we in the UK could not service in this country such a debt and hence fall on the ‘screwed side’
I am though surprised at the USA figure but of course they will and always do look after themselves and will do this time.
one day, you’ll wank yourself so hard, you’ll even believe what you say.
I don’t give a stuff what that lightweight Tony Blair said in his manifesto about not raising Income Tax. I didn’t sign up to that and I am unelected so you can all fuck off.
I have never, in all my adult life (and I’m passed the mid-point), been so angry, frustrated, felt so powerless.
Lions led by lambs doesn’t come close, ‘spied on and lied to’ led by crooks is closer.
Do we really have to wait another 12 months while this shower are propped up by a supine press.
Why does it take a guy writing a blog to lift the lid?
Come on you worthless lefty libs at the Beeb – do your job. We pay you.
Ps: You’ll see that the dung heap that is Labour’s shit factory is still stuttering on, Ed gives me a biscuit and a signed picture of Gordon with ‘Toilets’ Maguire every time I come up with one of my sad little posts.
Ps: Like my name, funny eh? oh, no? ok then.
Tra laa!
What sort of biscuit ?
soggy
Don’t be so paranoid.
The name is exquisite.

Cameron hit the nail square on the heads of the living dead! With unelected broon sitting there smirking like a naughty schoolboy what a desperate bunch of losers they looked.
Just watching that odious tosspot Kevin Maguire on Sky News – he’s already giving it the election spin. At least it looks like Kavanagh at The Sun’s on board.
SPIN – A distinctive interpretation (especially used by politicians (Hoons) to sway public opinion); “The campaign put a favorable spin on the story”
Any chance we can just cut the crap and rename the word “spin” to what it actually is i.e. LIE and shove this bollocks back in these hoons faces…
“The campaign put a favorable LIE on the story”

What a ******* joke. once again our country is a laughing stock.
tax the people who work hard for a decent job. (y bother)
tax on beer? thats it lets shut down more pubs! the places us working class go to to get away from the **** the gvt place on us.
Unemployment!!! well thats because so many of them are imigrants. bet they dont even get taxed. us workers pay for all there benefits!!!
Great Britain once the empire. Its more like Scared old France now.
Based on this budget, I will be paying less tax based on my current salary.
Of course, from June, I’ll be paying a lot less tax, as I’ve been made redundant.
I know exactly how you feel, mate. I lost my job in January.
All the best
I haven’t paid tax in months; again unable to find a new job.
Apparently I’m due a tax refund for overpaid tax last year, hope that turns up before the IMF arrive in the UK
No-one can say 2% on beer is bad + and 50% for earnings over 150k is fine by me.
I was just thinking about this.
I do travel outside the UK a lot and of course may have missed something but this is the first time that I can remember (accept if I am wrong) where a % has been used to hike a tax like this. I’m more used to a tuppence on wine and fivepence on beer / fags scenario.
2% ? the use of % is very interesting and I think thats another classic smoke and mirrors situation in other words I just know with these guys I am about to get stuffed big time..
Aren’t we in deflation?
Where the public sector pay cuts?
Where’s the drop in duty?
Darling said “we’ll use the efficiency savings to increase spending”
That tells you everything you need to know about how completely insane these wankers are.
“Expenses, dear boy, expenses.”
guido, how unlike you to fall for such a total red herring.
never mind the 5p in the tax rate, what about the 170 billion sterling this year and the same or more next year.
never mind Monaco, its IMF here we go…….
if the tories fall for this I will eat my chair in despair
Not quite deep enough the fucking Hoon’s.

What’s going on with James Lansdale on BBC News – where’s his hair gone?
He probably tore it out.
He has cancer.
According to BBC calculator 6 pints a week will cost us £10/year more… hardly bad.
For those more robust, eg 30 pints/week = £53/year more and drinking 75 units a week you’ll have weightier worries.
I don’t give a poo about a few pence on beer; I’m more worried about more than half a trillion pounds of *new* debt over just a couple of years and where the hell that’s going to come from when their mad growth predictions don’t happen. That’s the really scary bit.
Even Peston is saying its terrifying and even worse than predicted.
We are all doomed.
The fact that as a nation we will be borrowing more in the next two years than all the English/British/UK governments in the last 1000 years, PUT TOGETHER, is a mighty indictment of having an incompetent fuckwit in charge.
He’s sold the entire country down the river to keep his client state happy.
And don’t forget – this is just the debt we can see – don’t forget Public Sector pensions and PFI – they’re off the fucking radar.
I don’t fancy his chances from now on. He’s ruined our futures. Body-guarded for life? He’ll have to be.
Don’t just blame Labour/Brown; blame the apathetic British public for not bothering to organise a riot and throwing Brown out the top window of number 10 a few months back when he was totally unelected but still thought he had the right to get us more than a trillion in debt.
I wonder if the yanks would allow a completely unelected president who got his office via a coup against the electorate to spend trillions of their dollars without even bothering to have a debate in the senate.
Methinks they would have all marched to the white house and shot the Huhne.
Naw, in the USA they just use dodgy voting machines and Republican Judges to decide who is the man in the White House.
My fucking teeth have fallen out with all this debt.
Learn to spell.
Deregulate the Mortgage Market
Get real here, What fucking mortgage market?
sky news
Reaction from the Labour backbenches was scarcefully more positive.
MP for Hayes and Harlington John McDonnell said: “Buried in this Budget is a programme of public expenditure cuts and privatisations never seen before in the history of this country.
“This programme of cuts and privatisation will be made worse when the Chancellor’s unsustainable growth predictions are exposed.”
save that little gem for the election hsutings
Is Margaret Thatcher still avaiable?
At a grand old age and after a couple of strokes, she’d still wipe the floor with them before breakfast.
We need a figure like that right now.
Al-Jabeeba are reporting on their website a comment – “this is a well balanced budget ….”
Number 10 sending more dodgy emails?
When DC pointed out exactly how much we are borrowing – in such simple terms that even a Labour activist would understand – it is crushing.
We need a revolution.
AlJabbeba world are covering the story of the day at the moment blanket coverage in-depth discussion from the people at the heart of the action, experienced to give you a full analysis as it happens when it happenS on the spot reports and up to date reports.
Yes its budget day in the United Kingdom (We pay for this) and the BBC have an entire spread covering what?
South Fucking Africa elections!!!!!
WHAT THE FUCK?
SORRY BUT
WHAT THE FUCK?
Good day for burying bad news; the budget dominates.
The release without charge of every single person who was arrested a few weeks ago when the government was trying to divert attention away from the email smears has gone largely unnoticed.
What a strange coincidental timeline for the arrests and then for the subsequent release.
Anyone who was cynical might think that the home office was putting political pressure on the police.
“The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided there was insufficient evidence to press charges – or to convince magistrates to allow police to hold the men any longer.” – if that was the case then what was the “evidence” that initiated the arrest?
Quite.
Can’t think why they had the select committee reporting today on the SATs cover up.
The Government needs a vasectomy.
I told them we needed 90 days without charge. And no bloody magistrates involved either. Have these politicians no idea at all how we operate?
Why not start thinking outside of the coffin for once and introduce a tax on liars instead Mr. Brown?
At the risk of annoying everyone here, if they don’t put the 50% tax thingy through it will be the lower paid plebs like me who will end up paying more tax. The tax burden always hits those on lower and middle incomes worse. Think of all the shitty indirect taxes too – petrol tax, council tax, VAT etc. It feels like my tax burden has never gone down – always up. If more tax must be raised, then it may as well be the very wealthy who pay it. I must say though that £150,000 isn’t as much as it used to be. The rate should kick in higher. Then again, they should just cut public spending drastically.
Don’t you realise that if they tax your boss out of the country, even you plebs won’t have a job. NO tax at all then. Great
You are right, of course. It’s the people in the middle who keep the country going. I think the higher tax rate is a good idea in principle, as long as all those high earners don’t disappear off somewhere else a bit more lucrative – then it will be our problem.
Gordon will never cut public spending. The NHS is the second highest employer in the world. All those middle managers on god knows how much salary, are costing us all a kings ransom.
I offered my services to government and said I would sort out their expenses for free. Haven’t had a reply yet………!!
NHS=Too many chiefs, not enough indians
My local Trust requires 24 people to manage a fecking carpark and feels the need for ‘Quality Managers’ on 40K a man.
That fat needs trimming methinks.
everyone on £113k will have to find (£6400*0.4/12= £213 a month because of abolishing the nil rate band…
don’t tell me that won’t hurt hard working families – these aren’t the super rich..
but of course hard working and succesful is antithesis to labour
Cut government you div.
Taxes on income directly impede comparative advantage which is the main creator of wealth.
I may have seemed a little distracted in the chamber today…trying to work out how to break Boston’s legs and make it look like an accident. Will probably ring Mr McBride(God that still makes me laugh!), on the special phone. During the Committee hearing he went round chez Boston to kill his cat as a little message to leave me well alone. No-one calls me a liar and gets away with it. Nice to see that Yvette nodded a lot, particularly when the boss talked about changing MP’s allowances. Funny that. She must think irony is what the Polish maid uses to get the creases out of my trousers. Saw the boss later at no 10. He was lying on the floor doing a 3d sudoku and rocking gently from side to side. Humming a Fife lament although occasionally he began mumbling about saving the world. Won’t be long now…
Brilliant…Was he practicing for his next YouTube blockbuster?….
…”The delectable Mr Brown, having broken the Country and Banks, now perfects breakdancing..Yo!”
Are you sure the boss wasn’t humming the theme tune to ‘Brokebank Britain’?
p.s. can you get Mr McBride to leave a suitable message for Boston not to drop me in it either? Has Boston got any pet rabbits or hamsters?
You’re not too bright are you?
It says in the comment….
‘Also earlier someone put up the following comment.’
F Times: “David Cameron called it a day of judgment – the moment Labour had returned Britain to the 1970s”
I’m now looking forward to the BBC nostalgia series on how wonderful the 70s were.
Remember the luvverly street parties for the Jubilee, the wonderful music and fashions, no racism or industrial strife, no terrorism, how the streets were so much more scenic with the rubbish, great hairstyles, the lower carbon emissions what with the lack of electricity, etc. Happy days, that we experience all over again thanks to Messrs Brown and Darling.
They still just don’t get it, do they? They’ll be getting even less now. JD.
A poor budget, and Darling’s forecasts are so far removed from reality as to almost make the whole exercise a pointless charade. We all know that he will return next year with much worse forecasts because he wasn’t prepared to admit to the full horror story today.
The debts this government ran up over a decade are huge, and widening all the time. The situation is out of control, but the government has its fingers in its ears and its eyes closed.
Shocking in its recklessness, this is gross negligence.
Gooey – agree except on 1 point. I’m not sure there will be a next year.
“What is Labour saying to those who work hard and become successful? “We will punish you” seems to be the message.”
Labour don’t like hard work; it goes against their entire ethos.
They prefer the leech ethos instead, as is perfectly demonstrated not only by their policies generally but also by the fact that all their MPs are fleecing the tax payer for as much expenses as they can get, and having a scorched earth policy on the whole economy out of pure spite for their opponents.
They don’t like people who work, or people who have any degree of intelligence or common sense; those people undermine their ability to spin their insane policies and twisted outlook.
Mark my words; they won’t just lose the next election; they’ll be lucky if they come 3rd.
these are desperate times that calls for guided measures to be taken, the UK Government seems to be going the other way. The whole New Labour machine is coming off and won’t I be glad to see the back of them.
Regarding the 50p tax rate on the rich, I personally don’t see anything wrong with that. It seems some people want the high and low earners to be paying the same tax rate ?. If you are earning £150,000 and above, you probably are one of the f*****s that are collecting the bailout funds from the Government…oh or a S**ty Council Executive !.
No offence Guido
Actually the majority of business owners earn pretty damn close to 150k. I remember when Labour came to power in 1997, my boss sold his company to a management buyout as he was convinced Labour would renege on their election promises about tax. Sale went through the day before the election.
Uh?
What are you on,donut?
Tell that to all the self employed..but I’d recommend you wear a steel helmet.
Was on about business owners, you know, the one’s who employ lots of people. I seriously doubt I’ve worked for anyone in the last 10 years who hasn’t earned over 150k a year. Different for the self employed, most don’t earn that much. The self employed also have a lot more to lose if things go wrong, I’ve heard of small businesses going to the wall and the owner loses not just the business, but their homes as well.
Never mind, I think you meant to say that to okubax
Darlings guesses, sorry economic forecasts last November ( only 5 months ago!) have been wildy inaccurate.
If his guesses this time are even just slightly to the downside, then we are well and truly going to have sore bottoms!
Even I can see that, and I’m no economist.
signed, Gordon
Don’t parody the poor man he can see further out of his glass eye than his good eye

I think it would be better to replace the whole system of tax bands (which was originally designed in the days before computers and before decimal currency, to approximate a quadratic regression while making it feasible to calculate everyone’s taxes without the aid of a computer) with a quadratic regression. That way, there would be no way to exploit a loophole by placing yourself in a lower band: every amount would effectively be within its own, one penny wide band”
Absolutely correct!; infinitely graduated contribution, from each acccording to his means, entirely possible in this age of computing power. And no taxation on incomes up to 10,000 p.a.
Good idea, but it’ll never catch on. I think pensioners should not have to pay tax at all but as there are over 5 million in the UK, Brown and Darling will lose a lot of revenue.
Nick Robinson seems to have given the Government a smoother ride than a well greased seal sliding downhill on a PTFE sheet, laying on 10 packets of lard whilst smothering itself in oil.
And all the time, the debtometer is ticking upwards.
Anybody savvy enough to set up a website with a counter showing debt to date?
This was on SKY News one morning. By the time we got to 8am, the counter had gone past half a million.
I think I have woken up in 1978
I wish. Things were a lot cheeaper than they are now.
Well, they wil be for a while…. until the wheels really fall off.
The weaning or the cold turkey…. what a great choice for the punters… May 2010 aint going to be an election its gonna be a bleeding ejection.
Not really, in real terms it was probably about the same. Difference is we haven’t had the power cuts yet…
No you haven’t – inflation was running at more than 10% and interest rates even higher in 1978 (if my memory is correct)
The role of the Blesséd Antonia must not be forgotten at the final divvy up. That sphincter must roast with the rest.
What these Hoons dont seem to have realised that many of us can now make a fucking good living online and dont need to live in this country to do so, Plus many of us object to being fleeced by a bunch of student Marxists .
Lets just see how prosperous our
“Green, knowledge based economy” is in 10 years time.
I wont be here but will look on from afar with a sense of self satisfaction.
Those Russians and Ukranians seem to be very good hackers and bot net users
“bot net”. A barrier to pleasure, and an irrelevance against infection.
OH dear. Guido doesn’t know.
Sorry Guido, that won’t happen as they are introducing exit visas, as in the old Communist Russia where you can’t leave until you have acquired an exit visa or permit.
All they will do is delat your “exit” for a few years whilst they tax you to kingdom come. When there’s no more money left, you’ll get your visa.
Ampers.
This is too frightening – therefore likely to happen.
I remember as a kid (Wilson-Labour government) when you could only take 50 quid abroad on holiday.
No mention of suspending the implementing ID cards >£25 Billion, suspending the NHS computer network maybe > £20 Billion, suspending Polaris/Trident replacement >£20 Billion, my, upto >£65 Billion already, having done this engage brains to work out what is really required and importantly how the propsals will be implemented to make it cost effective
That’ll reduce borrowing to £500 Billion over the next three years then – woot – as a yoof may say.
As a Socalist I’m sort of half pleased/half frightened. How are the government going to stop all the wealth creators leaving? Being left-wing shouldn’t mean you should try to crush the aspirational classes – Ramsey MacDonald had that twigged in the Twenties – has Brown forgotten how everyone fled Britain to Canada and Australia in the sixties and seventies?
The irony of this is that loads of these people who’ll leave the country will probably be champagne socialists. Rich actors who support high taxes and a welfare state so long as they’re not the ones that have to pay for it.
You seem to bright to be a socialist
Actually, they don’t want the educated wealth creators to stay. If left with the client state, they can rule in perpetuity without the hassle of a viable opposition. The ruling clique still get all the trappings of office and personal income same as before. Will be left as cocks crowing on the dungheap.
Aye, look to Zimbabwe as an example. The place can be a absket case but the ruling, Marxist, elite can find enough to live fabulous lifestyles.
It may seem like a comparison of fantasy but, another day over, are one step closer.
Have you noticed you never see Lily Savage in the same picture as Paul O’Grady.
.
Is it the same reason you never see Gordon Brown in the same picture as Pol Pot?
.
Who don’t you see with Ed Ballsup?
.
Or Mandy Rice Meddlesome?
That was the worst budget I have ever heard. Brown’s hand so far up Darling’s ass you could see his bitten fingernails. Presumably that was how the speech was written and the so-called ‘budget’ devised.
Truly awful.
Its not really that much more to pay – and these days where else are people going to go? Other countries like Ireland and the US are all running ridiculous budget defecits too – and are all likely to start putting their taxes up soon. They money has to come from somwehere (although it would have been nice to have seen ID cards torn up – that’d save a few bob)
I’d prefer to have seen Balls and Gorbals torn-up myself, disgusting snot-weasels, both of em…
A few less Gender-Awareness councilors or Dog-walking co-ordinators on the payroll may have helped trim the deficits down too.
Vote: Should David Cameron oppose the 50% tax?
FFS its a distraction…. ignore it, it’ll have to take it’s place in a long list of f**k-ups that the next Government wiull have to sort out….
It’s not just the debt, the country runs short of electricity generating capacity in about 2012 so we’re going to get shafted on that one too….
To repeat, do NOT allow McSnot to get his way by starting a row over the 50% tax rate….
Absolutely agreed.
And lets face it, no one who earns over 150k will pay that anyway, they all have accountants that tell them how to REDUCE their tax bill.
Looking forward to the next series of ‘The Apprentice’ – The prospective candidates will first have to travel to Dubai to locate Sir Alans new premises, (probably rubbing shoulders with Richard Branson and many other expat entrepreneurs in the process).
Then again, with double tax on flights they’ll probably have to negotiate the best price for a second-hand Cornish fishing boat to get there.
Good point from Ken Clarke – what happens to the Governments borrowing figures should interest rates rise – what’s a couple of percent on over £500Bn?
Jesus wept.
Why do you think the US’s interest rates have always been so low?
Things can’t be all that bad, here in Bramhall Cheshire we have a new business moving on to our High Street…………………..an undertaker ( always look on the bright side of life)
I thought it was a dying trade
no, you’re getting confused with smokers being a dying breed
Dont get many complaints and no money back guarantee
What kind of things does s/he undertake to do?
Help with coffin fits, 411
I want a lifetime guarantee.
Even the 6 O’Clock news is laying into labour, featuring “no return to boom & bust” clips and the original pledges not to raise income tax with Blair and Brown shown
Now this is clearly not fair or true. Gordon did promise an end to boom and bust but he has delivered on that promise and done away with boom entirely. Those of you who did not vote New Labour should not be entitled to any of the wonderful advantages our politics and philosophy has delivered to the hard working people of this country.
“the wonderful advantages our politics and philosophy has delivered to the hard working people of this country.”
Regrettably the wonderful advantages seem to have been mostly directed at the polyester-toting workfree lardmerchants.
A shell suit for the empty shell of a country.
Hollowed out morally and economically by socialism (again).
Shades of 1978-9, Denis Healey and the IMF – perhaps with a contemporary hit Gordon is a Moron.
Deafening silence on the trading floor when the 50% tax rate was announced…
Well I ain’t coming back to the UK after that for a while……….the politicos here in Trinidad may be incompetent scoundrels but hey they don’t cost much and the tax is great ie sweet FA…………….
Glad u got the option to fuck off to Switzerland. The majority of us reading this blog are lucky if we can afford a day-return on the chuffer!
If the rich got fucked, you wouldnt even be able to afford the day return. Surprised you can now.
and whilst writing I hear from a chum in the City telling me that the HMG rating may be changed so the mountain of debt will become more expensive. Well done ZanuLabour
and well done to the tories for failing to provide the country with any kind of opposition to the new labour war and occupation.
dave’s fucking useless, that’s the truth.
can’t we just storm parliament and throw these Huhnes in the thames?
who is for?
I couldn’t agree more – Tories = ZanuLabour Lite
The tories will be Zanu in new clothes. Once they run the state, things will continue just as before. A kind of ZaNuCon.
I vote for Vince Cable for PM & Chancellor. The only fucker that talks sense.
(ok Clegg etc then, but Cable will be on hand)eral D.
I’ve never voted LD before but I will this time.
Everybody vote LD, please, no fucking around.
Well, we couldn’t be any WORSE off, could we?
what the fuck is that “eral D” bit in there for?
This blogsite needs upgrading, Guido. I can do it for 60k a year, 200.00 a day for clocking in, plus bus fares, train fares, taxi fares, plane fares, hooker fares. Fairs fare, right.
See you on Monday. (send some cash for the fares, don’t forget..)
dont forget signing on allowances and porn on your expenses !
Surely these items are a given?
The quickest way to debunk a New Labour budget is to zone in on one of its most eye catching gimmicks and read the small print: £2000 from the Government if you trade in your 10 year old banger for a new car!!!!!
1. People who trade in 10 year old cars historically do it to pick up a newer second-hand car, one say 3/4 years old.
2. The government will only give you £1000, the other £1000 has to come out of the Car-Dealers normal profit margin and the Dealer then has the expense of scrapping your old banger.
As ever with this Government its all for a headline, the queue of Car-Dealers rushing to sign up to this pile of crap will not be forming any time soon.
Very true; absolutely nobody who has a 10 year old car would be the sort of person who’d want to buy (or could afford) a brand new car. It just won’t happen, at least, not unless the price of a brand new car magically decreases to about 1200 quid
There’s much discussion on the news about what’s to stop someone who’s intending to buy a new car anyway, buying a £50 banger and then using that to get the £1000 discount.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out a solution, but I’m sure the government won’t be able to work it out.
You’d just say that the old banger and the new car must be registered under the same name/address and the old banger must have been registered under that name/address before the date of the leaked announcement.
I wonder if that’ll occur to labour. Somehow I doubt it.
So really it’s only £1000 as the dealers will say they have already made an allowance for their £1000 in the negotiated price.
Next impediment – the scheme will require the trade-in to be MOT’d and Taxed.
Doh! – there goes any chance of me trading in my MOT-failed wreck outside…
Any fucker with a grain of common sense can see this is shite.
Government bastards are cringing and sqeualing and clutching at any fucking straw to hold on to the money they steal from the taxpayer.
The public (us people who really work) should collectively prosecute every single one of them for theft (if you ARE an honest MP, then you would have quit ages ago…) and never stop.
Either that or just go on General Strike for a day or two, that’ll sort the fuckers out.
If I recall right, the Aussie government offered a $ 1,500 payment/subsidy to those buying solar water heaters (or something similar). Retail price went up $ 1,500 overnight.
Will anyone with an old jalopy be able or willing to pay the insurance premium and road tax.
The circus folk, fairground travellers may have to put their prices up.
I never thought of that one.
signed, Gordon
They’re after the purchase tax and VAT so a grand off they’re still raking it.
My car is 10 years old. If I replaced it with the new model then at the moment I drove it out of the dealers it would be worth £5,000 less than the moment I bought it.
Just back from a long day at work and saw the news…This won’t apply to me personally as I don’t earn enough, but I think it is utterly outrageous that the incompetent spendthrift wastrel buffoons who have got us all into this shit are nicking more money off people to try and quick fix their way out of it. They have been proven utterly incompetent, and refuse to allow us to hold them to account for it, and keep taking from the people in this country (not just high earners) who work hard, and pay their way, and try to lead decent lives. They are bleeding us dry, to support the ridiculous insustainable public sector and the rapidly increasing welfare state, whilst doing nothing to remedy the problems in both. They have encouraged and propagated the formation and growth of an entire underclass of people who will never work, never take responsibilty for their children, and many of whom increase the cost of their existence top the rest of us by turning to crime. Obviously I’m not talking about everyone on benefits – but there’s a significant number, growing all the time because they have more kids than the rest of us, who never attempt to pay their way in society, and whose children will never know any different. How much longer can it go on? And when do the people who slog, and pay and pay again, get a break? For lots of reasons to do with family, and the type of work I do, I can’t just bugger off, but how I want to. How fucking much I want to.
It dont affect us mate… so why worry.
I like you are probably on a shit-wage.
Stuff ‘em.
Everything they do affects us…all of us
Tories will contniue with Zanu policy
I expect you’re right. But it couldn’t be this bad.
I absolutely have no response to this; I am fucking stunned!
That fat fuck Brown should be emailed this post from NewGirl, somebody please do it.
(I have no fucking idea how to)
I HAVE A GROUPIE???!!
With that attitude, you have a job here in Tuscany if you’re looking.
Thankyou!!
Don’t say “thank you” until you find out that the job does not involve early starts, a spade and cattle
There were no chavs when Blair assumed his throne. Sure there were a few wasters and scoungers but they kept to the shadows and didn’t wear their fake Burberry as a badge of pride like Somali pirates.
Having been away for a few years I see the changes more distinctly than those who have borne it continously. Grossly obese young women huffing and puffing, fag in mouth, to the supermarket with their pushchairs and kids to stock up on crisps, chocolate and lager for their undernourished, spotty boyfriends. Kids leaving a trail of wrappers as they wend their way back in time for Jeremy Kyle or some other scrote hero. It is so utterly depressing.
And those that profess to be socialists, I wish you had been born in the soviet union and had endured the experiment first hand. It just doesn’t work. The system simply allows the worst of us to take control and can only be sustained by lies and violence.
The irony is this shower of underclass may be sympathetic to Labour but probably couldn’t be arsed to get out of bed to vote. Still, who cares?
Sounds like you’ve spent time in Taunton.
No but it describes any provincial town in the UK from Dundee to Middlesbrough to Coventry to Portsmouth.
Watford?
Brixton
PS I’m v v angry. But I feel like bloody John the Baptist – a lone voice in the Wilderness…The trouble is guys, there’s more of Them. We are outnumbered.
Watch you dont you get you Noggin chopped off..
wouldn’t surprise me if they brought back some form of execution for recalcitrants like me…At least John had Jesus to herald…I’m stuck with Cameron – I’m not sure its quite the same…
No.
There are 60,000,000 of us and 646 of them
92,500 of us for each one of them
NEVER forget it. They already have.
Start your own blog and shout as loud as you can.
What is the best blogging program?
I am shite with computers, but I’d like to get my pennys worth logged.
But Old H thats the point….of that 60, mill, a fair few are either complicit with, or benefitting from the regime…Otherwise there would be no one voting Labour at all…
there’s 32 million of them and 28 million of us.
If you’re living in a swamp with blood sucking mosquitoes, the best thing to do is leave.
Untill every penny the country owns has been spent Labour will not stop. I honestly believe that bankrupting the country is the calculation Labour have made to retain control. They know that a general election will kill them off for a generation, and I bet that they have been studying all measures to avoid one. National emergency, government of national unity, etc… I bet diamonds that Labour officials have been studying all appropriate legislation. They are more dangerous than anyone realises; they honestly believe that the country would disintegrate without them, and they are on a mission of revolution. They mean to control us utterly, and those that don’t fit into their “client state” will be totally disadvantaged. How on earth this shower ever ended up in charge is beyond me, but getting them to give up trying to run our lives will be infinitely more difficult than anyone can appreciate.
That tax calculator thingy on the BBC website looks a bit fucked. I tried it with income of 40K and 400K. A couple of kids, 40 glasses of wine a week (I reckon 10 bottles), no fags, two medium cars and 50 litres of fuel.
At 28K I’m 480 quid better off (hurray).
At 30K I’m 30 quid worse off. At 300K I’m 192 quid better off. At 40K I’m 32 quid worse off. At 400K I’m 192 quid better off.
Folk earning between 30K and 40K will be the ones who will actually be worse off? The teachers, middle managers and NHS functionnaires are actually the ones to be losing out? Folk earning less than 28K and more than 41K are better off but the massive slew of middle earners in the middle are worse off?
If that calculator is right right I’m pretty sure that’s not what Gordon Brown intended. Surely that 30K – 40K bulge is the swing vote?
the calculator is tits up…over use by despo bankers i guess….
The BBC are shite. STOP paying the licence fee!
Just noticed that at 400K my increase in alcohol tax is offset by the kids child allowance. Thanks kids. I should maybe go and shag myself another few bottles.
It’s enough to drive one to drink. ALthough I don’t need an excuse.
The calculator works just fine. Unfortunately it only works fine when you log on to the BBC site from Scotland using Inverness Explorer 8. Not surprising really, given that the entire budget was only designed to help the Scots, that English banks have been bankrupted saving useless Scottish bankers from the abyss of their own incompetence and that the Scottish thugs we have in both houses in Downing Street are only interested in lining their own pockets until its time to run back across the border and leave England festering in poverty, crime and drowning in red ink.
all the budget details have not come out yet…I guess its going to get worse in the next couple of days when the corupt morasse is fully explored…..my doctor and my headmaster friends are already appalled by whats happening to them re tax and reliefs…..Brown has made a last mistake in they way that they are taxing middle england….I guess come the election there is going to be an enormous swarth of seats where labour not only loose but lose their deposits as well….I guess the only good thing from all this is that they will be unelectable for decades
Tories and Lib Dems reject McDooms expenses plan. He, He, He.
The only sensible option. Any time Blair or Brown invites in opposition leaders it turns out to be a set up (Ashdown – PR, IDS – Iraq war).
Shun Brown.
An utter fucking crook.
battle lines will be drawn. Should be some fun next week.
Is this the same Guido that attacked corruption in politics, now defending those on too much money?
Yes, too much. Who actually needs more than £150K? What do you do with the excess once you can afford a mortgage on a 4-bedroom house in inner London, have new – high spec – cars and can pay someone to clean your big new house and flash new cars, and cook the lavish foods you can afford?
For every £30k above £150K, you can put someone on a 25 grand a year job (the other 5k is for employer’s costs). So being greedy screws people over and puts them on the dole. Or you can pass the savings onto the customer so that people can live for less.
And why is everyone acting like the money suddenly stops at £150K? You’re still getting half of the money you don’t need.
It’s not like you get better talent the more you pay. We tried that, and look at the mess the world economy is in now. Better to have people who really want to do the job – so much so they’ll do it for less – than greedy talentless b*stards just in it for the inflated pay.
And the ‘successful’ thing would make me laugh, but I get the impression you’re being serious. The bankers who got us into the current mess were paid your ‘successful’ rates. They weren’t very successful. You still have to bust a gut and – yes – be successful to get to £150K.
And what do these people paid in excess of £150K actually do? We’re talking managers of managers of managers of managers etc. here. Apart from engaging in sexual acts with their secretaries (which I suppose is a measure of success if the secretary is hot), they’re not really working their arses off are they?
The one notable exception is people in the medical profession, I suppose. But then as I said, they still get half over and above the £150K cap, and if they really care about people then paying more so the less well-off can have a better time of it shouldn’t bother them. Also if it’s really starting to pinch (and like I also said, I don’t see why) an exception could be made for medical people.
I don’t hold New Labour in high regard (or any, in fact), but I’m glad they did this, and don’t care if they broke an election promise – it’s not like they were trustworthy to begin with. But at least they’re hitting the people responsible for our current woes where it hurts. Not nearly hard enough, but never mind.
I’d hate to think you were picking faults just for the sake of it.
Money is freedom. That’s why more than 150k is needed.
The high earners are the ones who get us out of the recession.
They are the ones who have the disposible income to pay for the ‘new technologies’ while the price is high, giving an income for the companies and universities to pay for more research. That research leads to new jobs, with new technologies, and with increased production, the price comes down, that leads to more sales, and more jobs.
We need research and development, but we also need the people who can afford the new products, that way we can continue forward. There’s only so many ipods a person can buy, before its replacement comes in and starts the whole process again with a new ‘technology’.
How many have replaced their basic ‘brick’ phone with the 3G ones? Who paid for the development of mobile phones as an industry? The rich bought the first gens giving the industry the working capital to increase production.
We need disposable income to get the economy going.
The problem is worse now – because the ‘disposible’ income set were the University Grads bunch – who created new wealth by research and development etc. Their disposible income has been significantly diminished with the student loans. … with that part of income gone, there’s a diminished kick start to the economy.
The problem hasn’t reached no 10′s bunker, if he was using figures of previous recessions 1980/1992 to calculate our bounce, the effect of the student loans have been ignored.
The other group that were disposible income – WAS the elderly.
Australia – their answer to the recession was:
Aus$2,000 to all pensioners – as they would spend the money and give shops liquidity.
Aus$7,000 to all first time house buyers, rising to $14,000 if the house is a self-build – for exactly the same reason – but a different sector of the high street is targetted (furniture and white goods – rather than food and clothing).
The elderly here can’t afford the food, the electricity etc, which is placing a crimp on the economy.
Attack the rich – and we’re in trouble, that’s why Thatcher dropped the top band to 40%, to get the country out of trouble, the money will trickle down, not by direct payment, but by job creation as either entrepreneurs or as consumers.
What’s a DVD’s cost today compared to when they were first brought out? Who paid the high prices? Who pays the high prices today?
The Aussie payouts came from Australia’s surplus, built up during the good times.
How naive can you get laddie? This wasn’t a budget, it was a BULLSHIT. The idea of this bullshit was to fuck-over the tories.
It’s called playing politics. Brown was laughing his cock off, he wants to make sure the tories are fucked in power, so labour can regain it again SOON.
Absolutely. Well put.
Greed is destroying western society.
Greed has destroyed the world economy.
Yep, income taxation is the worst form of greed, we MUST reduce it to get the economy to WORK.
Dave R the point of the budget is not to penalise people for making too much money or for being too succesful or lucky. It is to raise as much revenue as possible without jeopardising the economy.
When Maggie Thatcher lowered interest rates, revenues rose because people saw the benefit in working harder, or working here or taking more risks.
Your post smacks of envy.
I bet if some fatarse won £25 million on the Lottery you’d say good luck to ‘em but for those that would take the risk and earn it you seem to resent it.
To cover the main two points:
envy – No. Like I said, I can’t see any use for more than £150K. Hell, I’m pretty much content on my existing £24k. Give me £150K, I won’t complain – and those who want more took the risks that got us in this sh*t in the first place.
lottery – effectively has a 50% tax on it anyway. The winner gets nowhere near the whole 100% of all the £1s that went into that draw’s pot – all the payouts on that draw don’t get anywhere near 100%. And – assuming its being run right – charities and good causes get that other slice, admin fees for the lottery being deducted. After that, good luck to the winner – at least they didn’t tank the world economy making their fortune.
Oh, and I’ll be as happy as (nearly) everyone else when Labour gets kicked out of office next year – can’t see how they can stay there. Aside from this rate change, not happy with much else that they’ve done.
There aren’t many who consistently earn it. That was the argument before when tax was in the 90′s. A footballer or a singer usually has a short career.
Besides, if you overtax you encourage creative accountancy, tax exile, and the black economy. Ken Dodd was earning a great deal but still wanted cash in hand. The tax contribution of a Paul MacCartney or Elton John is considerably more than that of several hundred owners of kebab shops.
We have a big problem. Im not sure class envy is a way of digging us out of it. We really need to have the state overspend tackled. All those folks who borrowed too much in the past few years are clearly more clued up than their government. They have stopped borrowing ( mortgages down ) – or been prevented from borrowing ( like the Gilt market may do to UK PLC ). They have cut spending – hence the high street collapse. They are putting off big ticket spending ( like new cars). They are saving – despite the paltry interest rates saving ratios are shooting up. And they are repaying debt – mortgage redemptions are increasing.
The government should follow their example. For example, scrap ID cards. Stop the charity donations to our competitors ( India eg) and enemies ( Zimbabwe eg). Get rid of all the pretend jobs. Ask the question constantly – do we really need to spend this cash?
And there’s a big bill ripe for cutting too. Those MP’s. Do we need 646 to make ( too many ) laws for a population of 60 or so millions? The US has 435 Congressmen and 5 times our population. OK they are a federation, but we have devolved assemblies and the overarching EU to provide jobs for wouldbe politicians. And thats before we even consider their bloated cost.
Bold measures are required. No-one sane is out there borrowing their way out of recession. Only the dumbasses who we cannot wait to kick out at the election. They should do the decent thing and go.
Also if it’s really starting to pinch (and like I also said, I don’t see why) an exception could be made for medical people.
What about farmers and fishermen. The people who put food on your table? Do they get a break?
What about plumbers. The people who make sure you don’t have to walk two miles to the river to get some water to boil your food?
What about the oil-workers? The guys who rattle out across the North Sea in choppers to put fuel in your car, electricity in your computer and heat in your home…
etc etc.
Why do you take food, water and heat for granted? What kind of life would you have without all they wonders of modern living provided by that lot?
In short what’s so fucking special about doctors?
they can possibly tell you what’s wrong with you – and if you are lucky maybe save your life?
On the other hand, from a different point of view, thay can fuck off.
Or give you an overdose of morphine because they think you’ve lived long enough.
Doctors live well enough in this country. Mind you, vets do even better.
What’s special about doctors? The whole life-saving thing mentioned further up always swung it for me.
What so special about doctors /in the context of a 50% tax/ is that they’re the only ones earning enough to worry about it.
If plumbers and fishermen get that sort of money, I’m getting a wrench and a fishing pole.
This budget was financial Apocalypse Now.
The hapless British economy has been napalmed by Labour helicopters to the tune of Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”.
It will take us decades to rebuild.

“the fact is, they [The Tories] broke their word on tax”
“I don’t want to add to the tax burden of families, that’s why we said we won’t raise the basic or top rate of income tax”
Reminiss before Labour rewrite history and delete it
Oh, and on “pork pies” and more people on income support
I remember that ad. There was a fuss that they airbrushed out the bulldog’s bollocks. Seems like quite a good metaphor for what they’ve done to the country now.
oops. Sorry, the apostrophe was a typo. I’d hate you to think I was educated under New Labia
Radio 5 was a hoot this evening. firstly left wing Peter Allen did an interview with mandelson. I swear at one point he’d crawled up his arse.
THEN we got St Vince Cable who didn’t get asked a single question about what the Lib Dems would do, just waffled on and on with Peter Allen cooing like a little child in the breasts of its mother.
THEN we got an evil Tory bastard, Ken Clarke. I swear Clarke got about 3 words out before Allen cut across him, making the sneering comment that the Tories would be ‘sticking up for their mates in the city’
Why didn’t he ask about Nu Liebours mates in the City? After all liebour have been sucking up to them for the last 12 years.
THEN Allen decided that the main item of the Budget was Tory fall out over the 50p tax rate? Really? I thought the Tories had simply said “I’ts not a priority?”
Funny that Liebour recessions are caused by Global economic downturns but Tory ones are not.
It all started in America you know!! Well yet some of it did, under Bill Clinton.
who are you going to vote for, then?
Guido Fawkes.
I think I must be Mutton Jeff as well as ocularly challenged, cause I’ve never heard about BBC bias.
signed, Gordon
It started in London when Brown/Blair deregulated the city and let greed rip.
Clinton just followed.
It’s not really about who you will vote for but against.
I may well vote for the Monster Raving Looney Party because at least you know what they stand for and basically they are honest. And I doubt they could do a worse job of sabotaging the economy that the present snake oil salesmen.
Dr – thats a very dangerous tactic unless you want to split the opposition vote and let the scum slip in again. Hold your nose and do the right thing.
I know, I know! In truth I’ll vote Conservative but it would be nice if they earned it.
Brown will die a sad figure…his chancellorship and subsequent office will be heralded as an abysmal failure by historians and commentators world wide…he will probably have a monumental sulk like Heath, protesting his brilliance…so deluded!
this is all false voodoo economics which doesn’t work… laffer curve etc etc…
Socialists have never understood how people actually do behave… if to take part in economic activity working say 80 hours a week for a business or in finance 50% plus is going to the tax man then you think what is the point…. high earners may choose to give their money to charity or something but I don’t know anyone who has ever given their money voluntarily to a bloated state….. the point is people should be free to choose….. such as Bill Gates and Buffett who are choosing to give their wealth away but didn’t have to
What socialists don’t understand is that it is the high tax earners who pay the bulk of taxes….. someone in inner city hackney gets free education and health care because people in high powered jobs pay lots of taxes…. and socialists are hypocrites anyway..
The seeds of prosperity simply won’t be sown in this country given the lack of incentives with these changes..
We are so dependent on finance workers in this country and they are the most moveable type of workers there are…. many have already gone to Switzerland….. there is now likely to be a mass exodus….
It just seem so dumb ass when Poly Tolynbee etc complain about high earners when they are the ones who actually pay for everything!!!!!!!! She should go to her house in Tuscany and sip her champagne socialism……
Yes. A complete damp squib.
I don’t blame you Guido for not commenting much on this. It’s mainly bollocks anyway coupled with typical Brownian political posturing. Do we really have to put up with this lot for another year?
For all the conjecture, rhetoric, and even FACT on this thread, there can be only one end; the current “leaders” of our country need to go.
How can we, who seem to be of one mind, achieve this end?
Well, we can keep blogging on, especially on this blog, we can spread the word about this blog (which I am sure will have a positive effect), or we can start our own blogs.
I know a lot of you do not know how to start your own blog, but with help from the Web, or a friend, it won’t be long before you are blogging with th
What a shite blogsite!
And your reasoning is?
Reasoning is, server responses are degredatory.
If that’s your benchmark then visit Labourlist – much faster server responses, for some reason.
It is definitely not my machine; I can blog to my hearts content elsewhere, but this site is shite!
NOT FOR CONTENT, but for typing, carriage returns, new line, cut, copy etc..
IT IS FUCKING SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This site is getting more internet traffic than any other of its ilk. That is probably part of the problem the other is that probably you need to get broadband or somefink,. Oh, and get some manners an’ all.
Are you still in the Middle Ages, using IE?
Anyway, I have to admit the content of the blog is exactly what is needed right now….
Watched BBC earlier. News bint said that this was quite an optimistic budget. Dropped my bacon sandwich on the carpet. “Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated”
Vote Ukip at the Euro election scam in June. Vote Ukip at the General Election next year. It won’t do any good but it will make you feel much better giving two fingers to Gordon, Dave and the Lib-Dem bloke.
If everyone did then it would do great good.
Boris has come out on telly and the radio disagreeing with Cameron’s supine reaction to Labour’s 50% tax rate, condemning the increase as a cynical ‘gimmick’ that’s likely to damage London’s position as an important financial centre (even more).
Why is Boris unafraid to say the things that Cameron should be saying?
Probably because Boris got elected on promising to do what he says (and is), Boris is actually quite liked by people (which really pisses the BBC off as he stuffed the Jew hater Livingturd)
Also Boris is putting London first which as Mayor is his job. 50% on the 2% will raise almost nothing of significance.
Because he was recently elected.
I venture to say that the 50% tax rate is deserved, as a penalty for violating the laws of double-entry book-keeping, i.e. a Debit on one computer screen should be balanced by an equal and opposite Credit on another. I’m sure you understand.
If you were a footballer no doubt you would go to the country where the referees give the easiest free kicks. Bon Voyage
Hmm. So you don’t blame the fat one eyed Scottish twat then?
@561.
Fuck off. Just want to punch the bloody teeth out of every hoon how feels the need to lump in the fact he’s Scottish, nice to see casual xenophobia is still acceptable. Especially seeing as the Godfather of the freemarket was a Scot, so please fuck off until you can detach nationality from whatever insult you want to attach to Jonah.
I would also like to add that any Scot who has ever used the phrase ‘the bloody english’, or a more colourful variation of that thesis, is a complete hoon to.
That would be “fucking” Non-Saxon. The commonly accepted phrase is FEB, so the f clearly isn’t for “bloody”.
Because Camoron is weak, impressionable, all bluster. He doesn’t mean to be. He is, tragically for us, hopeless. He has never done a proper day’s work in his life. He is no fool, he is honest, he means well.
Boris is intelluactually far superior to Camoron. He has charm, humour and relates well to most people. He has worked hard for his cash.
Etonians are split into two camps; the very nice and the most awful arrogant bastards you will ever meet.
You decide.
Whatever did you expect from an illiterate third-rate colourless Scottish lawyer helped by an arm-twisting repellent psychopath masquerading ( thanks to that awful Blair ) as a Prime Minister ?
For God`s sake look at their backgrounds; they have NO repeat NO commercial experience.
They give the `Living Dead` a bad name.
Yes, how could you expect anyone Scottish to do anything? Those poor wee dears.
Hoon.
I’m not rich or a Tory. As a matter of principle I object to ANYONE paying income tax @50% is based on the rights of the individual.
The state works for us (or should do) not the other way around. If the state takes half or more or your income then this is not the case.
The primary purpose of taxation should be to raise revenue, not piss about with dog whistle politics.
The left in this country is morally bankrupt. Champagne socialist hoons.
They need to read Paine not Marx.
Funny how BOTH sides seem to hate this budget with a passion – http://doverwatch.blogspot.com/
Nice. DoverWatch shows how Brown’s own party is throughly pissed off with him and the rest of the hoons but is too scared to complain openly in case they become Watson’s next target.
Why the £150,000 threshold? Oooh let me think. Perhaps that Ministerial salary of £141,866?
Couldn’t make it up.
On top of that salary the proposed £25k tax-free is now worth £50k as well – nice.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it absolutely f’ing insulting to watch brown sit there and laugh when cameron talks about how bad a financial state this country is in, as he did this afternoon.
if that man had any decency he’d at least sit there and look solemn.
now excuse me while i go take my rage out on something.
I saw that as well – but I’m of the opinion that the man has now gone beyond the point of sanity. Sanity is defined as the majority opinion. For the majority – this situation is shocking.
If only a psychiatrist would openly state the obvious – and place Brown under a Section 2 of the Mental Health Act, for observation and consideration for a Section 7. (He’s seriously mentally ill).
The primary question for Sectioning a person is whether the person will cause harm to himself or others. The answer is yes, he’ll harm others.
Anonymous No 543 and Dr Nuts No 641 your are right – The Brown body language in Parliament was not just insulting and disgraceful, it was frankly bizarre. The video on MP’s expenses the other day was also beyond parody, and although I still detest the man as much as I have for the last 20 years or so, I do seriously think he needs to see a doctor. Surely the Queen can have a word or sign a piece of paper or something?
PS : Not sure if my pension’s still OK (albeit taxed slightly more), but looks like I’m in the clear if I keep my head down………………….
I think he’s listening to the “voices” full time now. They’re probably telling him filthy schoolboy jokes as the Opposition leader points out that the PM is a total, traitorous Hoon.
That’s why he smiles, he’s completely insulated in his mad bubble.
Personally rather disappointed that the Brownies didn’t raise taxes for the rich folk even more than he did. Thank you.
why should they bail you out? WHY?? I’m not afraid to work hard and pay my own way.
Yes – why not have taxes at 100%? Wouldn’t that be a good idea? On everyone though, including the idle poor such as yourself, “me here”.
This time last year “Cameron Budget Put Downs of Blinky Balls’ Heckles” from Guy TV, worth a watch.
I’m skint.
A do nothing budget.
The day New labour died.
The corpse can only start to rot now.
‘In Hell
Me already financially out. Made the move several years ago when it was obvious that Brown the bully did not have the moral or mental wherewithall to run any enterprise.
I’m still skint.
Where I live it’s a nearly aquarter past midnight and the sun will shine tomorrow.
Guaranteed.
The budget was yesterday,
Just like Brown the Clown, Socialism and The Communist New/Old Labour Liars.
Count the days to their going and rejoice, it’s a wonderful world.
Night, night all.
Sweet dreams.
need a loger?
The analysis is simple. If you keep the tax rate below the NY state and US federal rates, the American bankers propping up the City don’t care because they have to pay US taxes subject to a credit for foreign taxes, so they don’t care whether they are in London or Cayman or Zug, they pay the same amount of tax.
But put the rate of tax above US/NYC levels and they can all save money by moving to somewhere with a lower tax rate and maybe lower overheads.
Budget 2009: even the Caribbean finds reason to despise it. Budget speech in full, plus comments and reaction
Yes, the negative impact of this budget could stuff the Caribbean, as well as the UK. Great isn’t it?
It’s worse than that – it’s 60%, Jim:
budget report page 106 5.88, “The personal allowance will be reduced at a rate of £1 for every £2 over £100,000 until completely withdrawn
That’ll be an effective rate of 60% on income between £100k and £113k.
Oh, and don’t forget the 1% for NI….
The more one looks at the details of this budget, the more terrifying it seems. I cannot see how this level of borrowing is sustainable in the medium or possibly even the short term, let alone long term. I think there is a very real prospect of the country going bankrupt. The effects of the particular kind of ruin this would entail can be observed if you look at Germany in the 1920s, and although we might not have people starving to the extent they were then, we will still have a type of economic and social dislocation and upheaval that has not been seen in this country in anyone’s lifetime.
Controversial wording for the Beeb ??
Tax rise as UK debt hits record
Yes we have no bananas.
Boy am I glad I left the UK in 2006/7. For me it’s now Income tax 0% and CGT 0%. And no need to join the pile of those dying from hospital acquired infections, to boot. And from what I hear many of those who are dying from lack of cleaners are young. Britain used to be a great country. Now it’s tragedy become farce, with no one in control and no one capable of stopping the descent into oblivion.
07.00, normally at my office by now. Instead taking the day off. No point in working my ass off anymore. Incentive has gone.
Probably too early still for that blogger Redvers, he no doubt is in his bedsit c/o the State waiting for the Centre to open so he can collect his benefits.
What a complete mess. Do you think the great British sheeple have any idea as to just how bad things really are?
Where are you Cameron – tyou should be all over the TV now telling us how it is…I fear he is but a useless muppet (albeit honest)
Have a nice day.
Guido, FFS don’t give them ideas. This place is already filling up with Brits who can’t speak French let alone German.
Like many people here, I have never earned £150k a year, but I did really want to and studied then worked very hard for years trying to. Now Brown’s socialists have come clean on their approach to taking what they can to pay for J Smith’s bath plugs or whatever, the country has no ambition and no future. Goodnight from a formerly enthusiastic entrepreneur killed off by Brown Balls Mandelson Miliband (x2) Smith (God help us) Hoon (ditto) Beckett (Ditto again!) and let’s not forget the Blairs in this roll of dishonour.
In a masterful example of understatement the BBC News website has the headline:-
“There is an overwhelming sense that Alistair Darling’s Budget has fallen short of what had to be done.”
It then goes on to quote examples of this “shortfall” from major newspapers:-
“A wide and deep chasm that Darling is attempting to cross with a short bridge made of rickety materials.”
“One of the most unconvincing and wrong headed recent budgets.”
“The nation is hurtling towards bankcruptcy at breakneck pace.”
“A stake driven through the heart of New Labour.”
“A declaration of economic and political war on the country’s entepreneurial class.”
“Shabby cynicism.”
How the BBC can continue to spin for the government like this, in a headline that is so far removed from the venom of the newspapers, is beyond me.
Listening to the news on Radio 3 this morning I was once again struck by the way the BBC make Brown and New Labour the centre of any narrative. So it was “Darling’s budget being attacked by opposition parties” rather than “The opposition parties have attacked Darling’s budget” and “Gordon Brown has failed to get agreement for his interim expenses reforms” rather than “Cameron and Clegg disagree with Brown’s interim expenses reforms”. This style confirms that the narrative is New Labour and the BBC are merely a mouthpiece for it.
Therefore I have today decided that I will no longer pay tax for the privilege of receiving New Labour’s propaganda from the BBC. They can shove it up their collective arses. I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.
Hear hear. death of ambition and aspiration. If I was about to earn over 150k I’d just scale back immediately, because what would be the point? So I’d do less work, employ less people, spend less money. Can someone explain to me how that would help the country?
Well I didn’t really think too much about Ali D’s budget yesterday deciding to sleep on it and compose my thoughts this morning. I think I can sum them up now.
We are all well and truly fucked.
Employee Benefit Trust in Guernsey. Use this to loan money from your company to yourself and don’t repay the loan. Squillions in the bank and not a penny paid in tax.
Thats how the uber rich do it. Tax is for the little people. Ask Tessa Jowell’s husband.
Can’t. Every time I try I get “if you’re the Carabinieri then HAHAHA!” on his answering machine.
I received this explanation of how tax works. Amusing but insightful and something Labour will never understand (Apologies for the length):
Today’s tax changes reminded me of something I sent to a Labour party junior friend of mine after taking her to dinner. She lectured me about selling my soul, helping destroy the economy and failing to do my bit for those less fortunate than myself. She didn’t mind me paying the bill though..
HOW THE TAX SYSTEM WORKS
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay £1.
The sixth would pay £3.
The seventh would pay £7.
The eighth would pay £12.
The ninth would pay £18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay £59.
So, that’s what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers,’ he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by £20.’ Drinks for the ten now cost just £80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the £20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
They realized that £20 divided by six is £3.33. But if they subtracted that from everyone’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid £2 instead of £3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay £5 instead of £7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid £9 instead of £12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid £14 instead of £18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid £49 instead of £59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
‘I only got a pound out of the £20,’ declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, ‘but he got £10!’
‘Yes, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a pound, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I did’
‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get £10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks’
‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor’
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
Anybody read this bollocks?
May be we should all turn to crime, it is a Labour statistical fact that crime increases in a recession. My ideas are:
Prostitution – Tax free income
Selling Drugs – Tax free income (the underclass always has money)
Burglary – Taking back the the flat screen TV’s we have bought the underclass.
Who are you people? Have any of you ever seen one of your 150k plus bretheren buying anyone a flat screen TV? Where does all this bullshit come from?
Some simple facts that surely cannot escape the ‘elite’ forever, what with their incredible wealth-generating intelligence:
1) Picking up more money for yourself does NOT magically mean everybody else has more money. You are NOT a wealth creator just because you are rich. You might be because you are an employer, or because you have an idea, or even (God forbid) because you actually produce something but NOT because you earn loads.
2) Upping the rate you pay on earnings above 150k is not some cruel and unusual punishment. Try living on the money plenty of us pick up for our full time jobs before you start bitching about how ‘hard’ life is getting for you.
3) In fact, try living off what my brother gets now he’s been made redundant (nice piece of wealth creation there). He does not sell drugs, and nobody has given him any kind of audio visual equipment that I am aware of.
4) After the complete balls up your ‘talent’ made of our economy – especially bearing in mind that there were plenty of people on less than a quarter of your income who saw it coming (ever tried reading a book?) what on earth makes you think you will be missed? Now GO.
