The Challenge for the Lobby Today

tom_wAndy McSmith in the Indy has compiled a short list of McBride’s smears and their victims.  It is not a complete list, most of the victims listed are Labour MPs.  Shame that journalists didn’t have the courage to name McBride as the source of the smears at the time that they printed them.  If they did, it might have shed some light on the potential truth of those smears at the time.

Guido’s challenge to the fearless members of the press is a simple one.  Show you are not, in the words of Peter Oborne theclient media, check your notebooks and identify the smears passed to you by Tom Watson, the Minister for Mudslinging.  Are you copy-takers or journalists?   Or will you just leave it to Guido once again to do the hard work and dispatch him?

UPDATE : John Rentoul in the Indy has enough self awareness to  realise he is in a self-inflicted Kafkaesque situation. People are starting to hint; Matthew Taylor, the Blairite Downing Street insider turned wonk,  joins Guido in mocking the press;

I have had a few ‘phone calls from Sunday journalists about the McBride affair. ‘Can you tell us more about his operation?’ they say. Which, when you think about it, is a bit like someone saying:

‘me and my mates have for years been having a very intimate relationship with someone you might vaguely know – what was it like?’.

Er…you could start by asking each other

Newspapers writing indignant exposes about the briefing operation of someone upon whom they relied for years for stories! You couldn’t make it up.

Journalists can name the names, they are in their contacts books already.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of having to pay TV tax for the Blatantly Biased Corporation’s (BBC) rats nest of left wing journalistic scum.

The official number of people who do not pay the licence fee is 5%.
In order to ensure that this figure is maintained, known non payers are removed from the data base. (It works a bit like Hospital waiting lists, they do not give you an appointment or acknowledgement until you are within the target time to be seen).
I have written to the BBC, copied to the leaders of the three main political parties saying that I am not paying, and no force on earth will make me pay. (This follows Johnathan Ross and his obscene phone calls).
I have had no more letters, and no more phone calls from TV licensing.
If the BBC were telling the truth no increase in the licence fee would ever have been necessary because their income should increase with every new house or flat which is built.

Must say that although the bio-expo shows you have a life, it also demonstrates an interesting case of journo muzzling. Perhaps publishing it in that form ‘telegraphed’ that some media are still on a leash. I wonder how long ago it was that the fight for the political soul of that paper was lost.

The Orwellesque edifice constructed by GB’s minions becomes clearer.

I see that I’m very much mistaken. This isn’t a news story, it’s a character assassination. Are you on a retainer from Brown & Co? The Telegraph editors are very out of tune with their readership.

Yes, but Murdoch must be in on all this. I earlier had Sky news on in the background from 12.15 until 12.55 and guess what….in 40 minutes not one mention of this govt., Jackie Smith’s incompetence, Alice Mahon stepping down, Damian Green affair, ballot rigging, dodgy home office pathologists etc etc. Not a mention even in the headlines constantly running along the bottom of the screen!

Instead we were fed nonsense about some scot woman winning ‘Britain’s got talent’ or some such crap….and then suddenley, a bomb conveniently goes off in Pakistan therefore giving them the excuse for ‘breaking news’ etc.

Oh and they spent 15 minutes interviewing a member of the NUJ who was complaining that local newspapers were going bust at the rate of 60 a year!

How can the editor of Sky news really believe he is doing his job correctly when he is not reporting any news? It’s an utter disgrace. At least the dreadfully dumbed down and Pestonised BBC news were running the “ex labour MP leaves the party in disgust” story constantly along the bottom of the screen.

Its even more galling when you consider the likes of McBride, Draper and Whelan (the latter, our Highlands & Islands Correspondent) and to cap it all the collective salaries and support staff to keep this lardy trio in business – that part funded by all taxpayers…neat eh?

Around the 5th/6th March this year, two friends of mine who had hotmail accounts found that they had for some reason sent an email to all of their contacts. I know this, because I got it. It was headed “Best goods and best service!”. It had one paragraph, and this is it in all its strangled glory: “i would like to introduce a good company who trades mainly in electornic products. Now the company is under sales promotion, all the products are sold nearly at its cost. They provide the best service to customers, they provide you with original products of good quality, and what is more, the price is a surprising happiness to you! It is realy a good chance for shopping.just grasp the opportunity,Now or never!”

Then a URL for the site (which I obviously won’t put here.)

A bulletin has been posted on the railings of 10 Drowning (in Debt) Street by a SpokesPorkPerson, which reads :

    Noon, Saturday April 18, 2009

The Beloved and Glorious Leader remains weak, and in a critical condition following emergency apologectomy earlier this week. The procedure was fraught, and long drawn out.

The badly fulminating apology was removed by a skilled team following weeks of increasing distress, during which time the Glorious Leader continued to work His miracles to the best of His ability, and under increasing strain.

No secondary apologies were discovered by the operating team, which was fully supported by teams of diversity, equality, compliance, and other jobsworths.

The Deputy Glorious Leader was on standby throughout.

Have you seen this shite from Harman on ananova.com?

Harriet Harman warned that Labour must not fight the Tories “in the gutter” as she sought to draw a line under the Damian McBride smears affair.

After a week in which politics has been dominated by the resigned Downing Street aide’s emails, Labour’s deputy leader said there was no place in politics for personal attacks.

“Labour stands for principles and values,” she told activists.

She continued: “Whatever anyone else does, we will not fight in the gutter. No-one in the Labour Party wants to see us involved in personal attacks. The Prime Minister has made it clear that this has no place in politics.
