“The serious business of ruinning (sic) the country” was screwed by Blair the second he got up in Parliament and uttered the words “weapons of mass destruction” and “45 minutes”. Those of us at the sharp end of the Cold War know something about WMD and the four-minute warning. I said to my wives and servants at the time, either that bugger knows something or he has screwed Britain’s statecraft for a generation. And lo it came to pass. Didn’t you notice how he got out in time, leaving George (I mean Gordon) “Pensions” Brown to carry the can? It couldn’t have happened to a nastier piece of work. All that’s happened now is that the rot has spread like honey fungus and our children’s children will pay because the Tory party didn’t have the guts to keep Labour out of power, which is their duty as a political party. Truly I say unto my wags, the pass has without doubt been sold.

Having read some of the turgid rant on the “labour list”, to me it has the resonance of a soviet 5 year plan and the pathetic feel of a 1980′s labour council claiming a nuclear free environment for its citizens.
Brown is beginning to display a similar paranoia to Wilson in his latter days when he convinced himself that MI5 were about to bring him down.
There is one difference though, having met Harold Wilson, I judged him to be a decent compassionate man although polically misguided.
