Reality Shows

Jade Goody is gone and the tributes pour in from the same rent-a-quotes who condemned her for her outburts against Shilpa Shetty.  Politicians are always desperate to associate themselves with popular culture in any way they can.  Sometimes though Guido despairs of the priorities of spin, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition today paid warm tribute to a deceased reality TV star with her own perfume fragance.  At the same time three soldiers, sent to war by them, returned in coffins from Afghanistan unremarked.

Yes, it does make you sick. This nation used to have a well-deserved reputation for silent fortitude in the face of adversity. Now we are hooked on celebrity tragedies we can all weep about in public. Life has become a fifth-rate soap opera.

I am surprised Gordo is not arranging a State Funeral.

She was just a media created freak, and created out of bad taste.

More thought for the soldiers who died for ???????????

    genghiz the kahn says:

Sums up Brown’s Britain. For a young woman who has had little education, she achieved ‘celebrity’ status because millions of sad people tuned into Big Brother on the off chance that she could have performed some sort of sexual gymnastics for the cameras.

As for Brown, he cannot resist jumping on a moving hearse, unless of course it bears men whose deaths in action.

    Nick says:

For once something I can agree with, so hear-hear. This was a star who made her name by wallowing in ignorance, renewed her fame with bullying and racism, then sealed her death by ignoring medical advice. She should be a warning to others, not lionised as a latter-day Florence Nightingale.

And let’s hope loony bishop Jonathan Blake – who compared Goody literally and unironically to a biblical saint – gets the pillorying he deserves. Perhaps to end your post, brief details of the names and achievements of the fallen offers would be in order, Guido?

I was sickened that Gay Gordon paid tributes, then more sickened Cameron bothered to try to out-do Gordon and pay tributes as well. Bloody opportunists.

I just hope Jade put her money in a good trust, keep Darlings hands off of the money she got for her boys. At least Jade is in a better place without these politicians.

      Surprised? says:

Gay Gordo ‘pays tribute’ to appear human – doesn’t particulary matter who the deceased is or what they did.
Cameron ‘pays tribute’ (“pays tribute”: a sick-making phrase in itself, now become cliche) so that the conservatives don’t look, or cannot be accused of being elitist – an extention of the ‘Toff’ charge.

And driving the whole bandwagon is the ‘Tabloid Journalism’ practised by all the media, whether writing for the ‘red tops’ or not, whether broadcasting for commercial outlets or the stagnant lagoon that is the BBC.

I’m sickened by the outpouring of platitudes. Fuck sake, just the mere mention of the bint gets people tearful!

How about everyone remembers what a waste of fucking space she was, rather than now thinking of her as “Saint Jade Goody” just because she got cancer?

Fucking hell, what about all the other people with cancer who aren’t shameless millionaires who can afford to relax in private wards and plush homes surrounded by a team of doctors? What about those who have to hold down a job to pay the fucking bills, while raising a family, while keeping a home, and while being fucking treated? How do they measure up if that Hunt Goody is such a fucking inspiration?

its not just the politrickians that make me sick, but the endless meedya coverage. I find myself thinking thank christ the bitch dead, at least she can rest in peace, but thanks to the shallow minded and worthless money-grabbers, hangers on and money leeches desperate to suckle from this constant air time and print coverage cash cow (now corpse); we continue to suffer from the endless mugshots and up-to-the-minuite coverage of the ex-reality nobody. This isn’t the end, but the beginning of the end; oh hail thee more endless coverage and puke inducing tributes of a foul mouthed, ugly chav made famous for being those three things BEFORE she started drinking on live TV.

Those soldiers died doing their jobs in a high risk enviroment and deserve the dignity offered by their comrades and more than the little press coverage. But what about the people who die in wards up and down the country, without dignity, without their needs cared for, the unknown tragic last glimpses of people who have lived in all walks of life and contributed far more, who drowned in the putrid depths of our National New Labour Triage System. No attention, little love, to fade away in pain, in a bed of your own shit and blood, not always common, but enough to surpass the other meaningless statistics whos causes are lavished money and red tape from above.

and thats without mentioning those who are ignored to die, with little thought of them as patients, only statistics. The family unaware.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Goody was a loud-mouthed exhibitionist and slob who represented everything wrong with Britain today – gleeful anti-intellectualism, the dumbing-down of culture, the expectation of instant wealth and the pursuit of ‘fame’ as an end in itself. She made ignorance an aspiration for many – thank fuck she’s gone.

  15. 20
    Winston Smith says:

    Oh deary, deary me…..

A woman, who was nothing less than a ‘chav’, a complete no hoper, who gained notoriety all because of her ignorance, looking like a pig and getting her clothes off in a wannabe, reality TV show.

However, thanks to all the other chavs and Neets spawned by ‘Blair’s Britain’, they created the monster that was Jade Goody. The very fact that her cancer and subsequent “end story” has been front page news, really shows just how sick and broken Britain our country is. Worse still for the Prime Minister to comment on this in Parliament, shows just how out of touch they are with reality, the public and the job that they are supposed to be doing. How many soldiers have died in the wars and yet not one mention in Parliament?

Sad, sad Britain, then again, I don’t watch TV and very rarely pick up a broadsheet or tabloid as most news is found on the Internet in places that I know won’t be part of the left wing, government controlled main stream media.
Expect this to still be in the news, along with that other media whore – Diana.

    • 25
      Malik says:

“How many soldiers have died in the wars and yet not one mention in Parliament?” I believe they go through the motions of pretending to care right at the start of Prime Minister’s Question Time.

On that note I’m wondering now whether the PM is going to open with a tribute to the three servicemen who died defending the interests of this country in a godforsaken hell-hole of Jade Goody “whose brave fight against incurable cancer has been an inspiration to us all” etc ad nauseum.

        Winston Smith says:

I doubt that very much. Not a word will be spoken of them. You can judge what it will be like from a previous BBC Question Time(one of the few I’ve watched in the last 12 years) where a member of the audience said, at the time of the Jade Goody debacle, that although it was a shame, would the prime minister show sympathy for the soldiers killed in Afghanistan that day? Of course the audience remained silent, appalled that a woman would think that British soldiers lives, who defend their country are worth more than a talentless, cancer ridden chavette.
The usual spiel came out of the panel, saying how they were all thinking of Jade and how much good work she’d done for cancer awareness. Of course the audience had multiple orgasms.
The UK has turned into a celebrity worshipping, football mad, illiterate moron creating cesspit. Our country has turned into the very worst that America creates and I can’t see it getting any better under Conservative when nuLabour are launched into space, to reside on Planet Pluto for a very long time.

      Malik says:

Depressing isn’t it – that the only way to drum a public health message into the heads of the public at large is for a ‘celebrity’ to die of said disease or mishap. Ditto the actress whose accident on the ski slopes has led to calls for ski helmets to be worn at all times and for everyone who receives even the slightest bump on the noggin to march straight of to A&E.

Misfortune amongst the famous is truly an effective means of ‘raising awareness’ – perhaps Max Clifford could succumb to an as yet unspecified aliment and it would serve to educate the public against the danger of whatever the probable cause of death turns out to be… at the very least it would rid the world of Max Clifford.

The apotheosis of Goody does not surprise me. Diana had too much class – Goody’s rise to fame and fortune, and subsequent demise at the hands of fate, exactly parallels Diana’s. But Goody’s palpable ignorance (Rio de Janeiro, East Anglia, etc) and her gut racism makes her the paragon of an “authenticity” that exceeds Diana’s but cannot be expressed (and/or explicitly celebrated) because of political correctness.

The index of this was displayed this morning on the Toady program, where a wimman from the Grauniad waxed elegiac in metaphysical terms – Goody she said had redeemed herself by dying. What a total crazy – but no surprise either coming from the Graun.

So the Grau and BBC “redeem” themselves in their own eyes. They have contributed to creating a Saintly example. We must all follow this example to redeem our sins against Gaia. It matter not what Goody thought, if anything, of anthropogenic global warming. It is the way we “useless eaters” must “redeem” ourselves. (As we’re worth sod all otherwise).

Fuck you you totally immoral imbecilic eugenicist bastards.

The sentiments re: JG expressed by Mr. Neil in the the last four paragraphs of this morning’s blog entry sound awfully familiar. Too familiar?

I wrote pretty much the same thing as well, as did pretty much every broadsheet – it’s not a huge leap to question the politicians’ shameless opportunism and to naturally compare three men who died in service with the outpouring for a famous nobody

presumably the men were, or will be, all mentioned in PMQs – the introduction of that little convention is yet another piece of shameless politicking

Jade Goody and her ilk are all that I despise about the ‘celebrity’ culture. However, it says a great deal about the mentality of the public when they buy all the trash magazines about ‘celebrities’. I hope to god that Goody’s funeral is the day after I am on nights and will be asleep in bed. I remember the ridiculous outpouring of grief when Diana died. I was on nights when it happened and slept through the following day. On the day of her funeral I manged to do more gardening in one go than I had ever done.

Brown and Cameron and all those jumping on the bangwagon proves that they reall are twats. And that goes for the media who a year ago were slagging Goody off at every opportunity.

ps. Ok I still think it sad that 2 kids have lost their young mother.

It’s refreshing to see I am not the only person who thinks this way. And while it’s sad that two kids have lost a mother, they’re hardly the only ones.

Now, has anybody got any creative ideas for disrupting the inevitable several minutes’ silence the mainstream media (yes, the same mainstream media who slagged the thick little chav off at every opportunity till they found out she was dying) are bound to call for?
