Lynton Crosby Advising Libertas on Euro-Campaign

Isaby has scooped another story for ConservativeHome, the news that Lynton Crosby is advising Declan Ganley on running a slate of candidates in Britain for June’s European elections.  Guido suggested early on that the Tories should have associated themselves with the Libertas pan-European ticket.  Maybe they felt there was little to be gained in doing so in the UK.  In the wider post-EPP environment after the election it might have been useful, assuming Libertas win any seats.

LibertasLynton is a business-like strategist, he knows he has three major problems; firstly the policy position taken by Libertas is nearly the same as the Conservative stance towards the EU, secondly British voters who are particularly interested in the EU tend to UKIP.  His third problem is name recognition, few have heard of Libertas.  Will be fascinating to see what strategy he comes up with since Crosby has a reputation as a realist when it comes to campaigning.  If he wins a single UK seat he will have done well.

UPDATE : The Fink asks Is Libertas Pointless? He basically draws a venn diagram of potential voters and finds the Libertas subset to be very small.

If you don’t think it would work, what about the UN? Loads of countries don’t pay their dues but they still get the membership.

What is wrong with having an English identity FD? Scotland has a nationalist party called the SNP with representation in Westminster and Holyrood, Wales has a nationalist party called Plaid Cymru with representation in Westminster and Cardiff, so what should England have F.D.?

Do you hear the English sneer and refer to “Wee Scottish” or “Cymraeg bach”. If England, Scotland and Wales split, which of the three would have the most successful economy?

This government’s anti English bias came out in the balkanisation of regional assemblies that Prescott tried to foist upon the English. The electorate didn’t want it but that didn’t stop Labour going ahead anyway. Regional assemblies: unelected, unaccountable and undemocratic.

“Little englanders” “Plastic Paddy” I think that is meant to be offensive to racial groups. Does Trevor Phillips know about you FD?

Blanket social housing filled with ZaNuLiebour clients. As far as I know this plan still stands.

If we do leave the UK, we’d save a vast amount of money, take control of our borders and the rights of our people – that’s just for starters. Would the EU object? Of course, less trough money for them and the PIGS, but would individual states in the EU sanction of stop trading with the UK. No. There would be some sanctimonious wittering for a few weeks and then we’d all just get on with it.

The first responsibility of a government is the security of the people and defence of the country. On that basis alone, the NuLabour junta regime is proven disloyal and incompetent and an incoming government duty bound to honour its responsibilities by leaving this corrupt and corrupting institution immediately.

Given most polls in European countries I’ve studied that given the chance to exercise their rapidly diminishing democratic rights – most Europeans would vote to liberate their countries from the EU and disband the institution or reduce it back to a trading organisation only.

AS REPORTED BY THE DAILY MAIL WEBSITE

Former Labour MP was today given a conditional discharge after being found guilty of using threatening words and behaviour to hotel bar staff.
Helen Clark, who represented Peterborough, Cambridgeshire between 1997 and 2005, was convicted after a two-day trial at Peterborough magistrates court.
Clark, who had denied any offence, was found not guilty of being drunk and disorderly.
Prosecutors alleged that Clark, a 54-year-old former English teacher, lost her temper after bar staff refused to serve her more alcohol in the Great Northern Hotel in Peterborough during the afternoon of Sunday June 15, 2008.
They alleged Clark had told another customer to ‘f*** off, p*** off” and had called a barmaid ‘Portuguese b****’.
The court heard that Clark, her husband Alan and a friend had been drinking from around midday to around 5pm while discussing politics.
Clark told the court that she had downed ‘in the order of’ a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
But she denied being drunk and denied telling anyone to ‘f*** off or p*** off”, calling anyone a ‘b*****’ or calling a barmaid ‘Portuguese b****’.
Part of the episode was filmed on a barmaid’s mobile phone – and footage was shown in court.
In the film, Clark was seen holding her head in her hands and screaming and shouting.
She was heard to ask a barmaid: ‘Why was I treated like a **** in here … I have been humiliated here.’
The court heard that the mobile phone footage later appeared on the internet site YouTube.
District Judge Nicholas Leigh-Smith said prosecutors had not proved Clark was drunk and disorderly but had proved she was guilty of using threatening words and behaviour.
Judge Leigh-Smith said Clark had had a ‘preoccupation with self and self-image’.
He added: ‘I am satisfied the behaviour on the whole was threatening and abusive. It was certainly disorderly. Mrs Clark was clearly out of control.’
Judge Leigh-Smith said he was not satisfied Clark had called anyone ‘a b****’, and he was satisfied that she had not called anyone ‘f****** b****’.
He imposed a two-year conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £800 court costs.
After the hearing Clark, who told the court she now worked as a freelance teacher, examiner and journalist, refused to comment.
But her lawyer, Andrew Cave, said she had lodged an appeal against the verdict.

Typical. And no doubt without the video evidence this paragon of the community would have walked free without being found guilty of anything.

Even as it is with fucking video evidence of her clear familiarity with anglo-saxon the judge declares himself satisfied she didn’t call a member of staff a ‘f****** b****’. He doesn’t even say that there is no evidence that she did. Nope. She clearly didn’t say it.

      Sure. Whatever you say judge.

Libertas are NOT anti-EU, just anti-Lisbon. Almost exactly like the Tories. They will pick up votes from Labour europhiles disgusted with ZaNu Labour; from those Lib Dums who are wary of the excessive EU brown nosing by the Lib Dum party machine; and from the more europhile Tories. I predict at least 4 seats in the UK for them.

The only other minor parties who can make an impact in the Euros are UKIP; BNP; ED. My view is that ZaNu and the Lib Dums will lose seats; Tories will stay approx the same; UKIP same or slightly less; BNP gains; ED gains; Libertas gains. Greens? – eco-fascists who deserve to drown in a sudden tidal surge.

I’m amazed that so many commenters here haven’t heard of Declan Ganley or Libertas after the coverage the Irish referendum got on tv. Ganley started Libertas to fight the Irish govt’s attempt to push through the Lisbon Treaty in the referendum last year. Remember, the referendum Brown promised the British but did a U-turn on??? The referendum debate where the Lib Dems chose to demonstrate their value as a political party by sitting on the fence and NOT using their voting power? Thanks to Ganley, the Irish voters saw the dangers of Lisbon and voted it out. We then saw the undemocratic behaviour of the EU in trying to intimidate the Irish into changing their minds by using threats. Now Ganley is trying to get all of us who object to the way Europe is going a voice in EU and put enough power in our hands to stop this monster that is rapidly getting out of hand. I applaud UKIP but even if they win a couple of seats it will make little difference. Libertas is a Pan-European party. Sufficient votes for them would make a huge difference.
