Danes Could Vote Euro-Treaty Down

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Denmark’s Liberal PM, is going into an election on a platform of tax cuts and welfare reform. Mark Mardell is speculating that he could also end up holding a referendum on EU Reform Treaty / Constitution.

The Danes have voted No before, to the Maastricht treaty. It would put a huge spanner in the EU works if they did it again. Despite the overwhelming majority of Danish politicians being pro-EU, the population at large is, by a narrow majority, Eurosceptic. So it could be that a few Danes save Gordon’s bacon.

Maybe if they really wanted to “decontaminate the Labour brand” with business people, they shouldn’t have totally buggered up the economy?

Just a thought.
