Castrating the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission is a quango which does what it can to keep crooked politicians in check – not an easy task. The government is becoming more and more irritated with it because it has piled the pressure on over Loans for Lordships and other sleazy misdeeds. Naturally this means it has to be “reformed”, by which they mean neutralised. So the control freaks that run our country are proposing that it should become part of the Civil Service or that politicians should oversee the commission. Crazy, that would be like putting criminals on to the boards of Police Authorities.
